puppet ties?

Hi guys! so I am making some hand puppets and I would like to make them some mini ties so they can be business folk. Do you guys have any idea how a tie is fashioned together? It is weird because of the way they are thin and then get fat and wide and I don't know how to do that. The only way I sew is by hand also. Machines are scary :p
I'll post pictures when I finish some. I might just put the clothes on an already made puppet if I can find him.
