I've been commenting and realized I've not even done the intro thing yet.

I'm Deb, i go by Chicagojo or Seattlejo online nearly all the time. My hobbies include writing, reading, crocheting, learnign to knit and sew, cooking, baking, and soapmaking. I've gotten quite good at cold process soapmaking and have even dabbled with hot proccess as well. My next arena to test is liquid soaps. This fall I'd like to start selling my wares, either through gift baskets or craft shows. The current obsession is to learn to knit. I've nearly gotten a scarf done, but have realized that I may not know how to purl correctly. (That happens when you are self taught I guess)

Other interests I have are weaving, small run publishing, web design, and decorating.

So is anyone out there surviving, maybe even thriving from making things and selling or bartering them?

this is a candle holder/under-vase-thingie i've made from aol cds, some mosaic grout and cardboard. you can't see it, but i've glued glass pebbles to the bottom corners and in the center to make it higher. it does look really neat if i say so myslef...

also you can use the same technique to make picture frames and stuff like that.

another idea - i know lots of people here make those glass pebble magnets.. well, if you don't glue the magnet to the back, you can make picture frames with those pieces. just get some clay and make a frame, and then stick the pieces right into it. looks awesome!
