Decoupage Advice?

So I want to try decoupage, but I don't know where to start or even what to use. Actually, I don't even know what I want to decoupage. I just know that it sounds like it would be a lot of fun and that the end result, if I tried really really hard, could look awesome.

So I come to you girlies for advice. Have you even done this? If so, what did you do? What did it end up looking like? What materials did you use? How long did it take to complete?

origami cranes

hi (pardon cross-posting) i am in a state of total craft-frustration! i am trying to learn how to make origami paper cranes from online directions and i am not succeeding. does anyone have some tips, simple instructions, or know of a good site for this? i have spent an hour and much wasted paper on this to no avail. thanks!!!
p.s. i must confess i have never done origami prior to this, and maybe the crane is too difficult, but i've heard there are simple versions....

Just out of curiousity, is this community for sharing arts-n-crafts or selling? I've just noticed a lot of advertising going on but without actually showing or expressing the "how's" behind products. For some reason, I got the impression that this community was like to share craft ideas, etc., so that other people could do crafty stuff.

*hehehe* I just found irony in the idea that selling to those interested in creating the crafts themselves.

Note: I am not trying to be rude or diss anyone who's been advertising the sale of their goods.
