I've been inspired with book making again and I think I'd like to invest in some tools for the job. Where can I get a thing called an awl and where can i get those metal things that go in the circles to bind books, they keep the circles from fraying and make things look neat. Does this make any sense to anyone?

This might be a weird question...
If I painted a shirt with acrylics and then ironed transfer paper over it, would that help the design last longer...?
