The other day I was watching While you were out and they had this tray and filled it with sand and shells and then put some kind of clear stuff over it to make it hard. What could that have been? I thought they said epoxy but could it have been resin?

I finally have pictures of the things I've made. Sorry for so many pictures.

Plain green converse I covered with fabric using fabric glue. There was magnetic poetry on the other side, but some of the words fell off.

So I just got finished making a Stratego clock. It turned out really well. It's for my friend brian for christmas. He needs stuff to decorate his walls, and he also needs a clock. Perfect combination! It's so cool also cause I didn't even know the game was from the 70's when I got the idea and bought it. (disclaimer: original idea surfaced when reading readymade's scrabble b.board idea) Woohoo. Now it's vintage too. It was a little difficult making the board stable cause you know there's the fold in the middle, but I did it. yep yep. I had originally thought of making the outside edges of the board be a bulletin board...so it would be combined b.board and clock...but now I don't know. I think tacking stuff up on the board would take away from the cool stratego words on the sides and stuff. Still thinking on that. I am leaving it up on my wall till christmas cause otherwise I am afraid that it will get hurt.

my mom has this habit of buying things on clearance and never finding a use for them. ultimately they end up as random christmas presents for me. i got this little kit 2 years ago and finally made the thing today.

mine looks like it has a learning disability. compared to the one on the box anyway. sorry its kind of a shitty picture.

anyways...while helping my mom clean out her attic in preparation for moving, I found an old school pattern for turtle pot holders. i am now attempting to teach myself to crochet with an even olderschool learn to crochet book
by the end of last night i learned how to crochet a second level ring of stuff...that was cool..i am working on the third level now
anyways we cleaned out the yarn room and apparently when the tree fell through the house over the summer, they never thought to check in the attic and stuff so alot of the yarn was icky. i only ended up getting about two...maybe 1 1/2 garbage bags full of yarn. i was disappointed. so i am sorry to everyone that wanted yarn
i have to take the people who emailed me first
on another note, I found alot of old school *workbasket* i think they are called, pattern books. i am not sure how old they are, but they origianlyl sold for like 10 cents and such.
after i got through them all i can break them into lots and sell them to some people. i will look through them soon and list the patterns and such. i will sell them for like shipping and handeling costs and maybe a buck for me for going through them...that is all....i promise it will be cheap.
and i am sorry to everyone about the yarn.

also, when i was younger, my mom made us these things in the shape of teeth and they had a little pocket in them to hold our tooth that fell out for the tooth fairy. has anyone seen a pattern like this? i would love to make them for my nephews.

Gem Show

Has anyone been to the International Gem & Jewelry show before? The website is here: http://www.intergem.com. I thought it sounded really neat because they will have gemstones and various other materials there for jewelry making.
So if anyone has gone to it, how was it, did you see much that you liked, and is it worth the drive I will have to take to get to it in December?

My latest necklace...
Finished Goddess necklace )
[identity profile] unluckymonkey.livejournal.com

I'm totally bummed! My machine kicked it.

And I was literally about 4 long stitches away from finishing my first real
dress in years.

POOP!

BUT...I did take a minute to make a charm necklace. Ironically it's commemorating
my reentry to sewing. It's a little lopsided right now so I've got to buy the
5th charm to make it even but I'm going to wear it anyway.

If my machins is going to be out of commission for more than a few days I'll
have to use me madre's machine.

Well enjoy. this is my first post with pics. There'a pic of a costume I made
in my journal but that's it so far. Thanks for all the great ideas and inspiration.
You guys will really keep me going!

I got one of these scarves last year for Christmas from a co-worker who knits,( I do not knit). I love it and wanted more of them, it is a moebius scarf ( no beginning, no ends), and you can make it wide enough to put up over your head sorta like a hood, but when inside you wear it down around your neck like an oversized turtleneck/ scarf you cannot lose. The site in the link above has directions for how to make one in crochet, which I do do on a limited basis. I bet you could do these in more manly colored yarns and a guy could wear it also.
