I created a new community the other day that some of you might be interested in: [livejournal.com profile] craftypros. This is meant for the slightly more advanced crafter or artist who wants to show off or discuss new products or resources (stuff found on the web, in books or magazines, or on TV). Questions are banned as posts but may be asked as comments to posts, where the original poster may or may not choose to answer them. If you feel like you know what you're doing in the craft world, and want to show off or else iron out kinks in a mostly-completed project, you should join. Also, lurkers are welcome & we are friendly aside from the one major rule. :)

I created this specifically for nonbeginners because I had a number of friends mention that they thought it would be a good thing to have around, for people who like to see finished products but want something more specialized than a general craft community. I do not want to siphon off [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl's audience - I hope that many things will be crossposted. It's just a new flavor in the mix.

What are peoples' opinions on using sculpey to make candle holders? I'm assuming heat won't hurt it too much because you do bake the Sculpey, but will the color change or the dripping wax do anything strange?

I guess I really haven't had anything to post but I had a very crafty weekend =)

I bought tons of supplies at AC Moore and made a few things out of them (mainly decoupage).

The first is a little box I decoupaged for my guy friend. It was inspired by this cartoon

lookie here )

the next is a little frame I decoupaged. The frame is made out of (what seems like) cardboard and all I did was decoupage it.

thanx! I love crafting!!! =)

Finally, FINALLY, Zach's big gift is done. Remember, he's the boyfriend who loves Scrabble? Check it.

Scrabble Table

I got a small, unfinished end table from IKEA on the cheap and woodburned a Scrabble board onto it. It's regulation size and will accommodate standard game pieces. I used wood stain in two different colours (of varying intensity) to do the double/triple spaces -- deep mahogany and driftwood. I am really, really, really happy with this (except for the one square I accidentally stained the wrong colour). Yay.

I'm gonna go clean up now. Two families will be filling this house in a few hours and it's a MESS from all the present-making.

I was just wondering if there was a way to substitute smells for a gel candle. I just have that clear gel that you remelt and pour into a container.. and i wanted to do a peppermint one for a christmas present (yes, i always must wait til the last minute!) yet of course no one had the oil to add. I just was wondering if there was a way to use like the peppermint extract.. if it would have the same effect, or even be safe. curious to know if anybody as any experience with it. i've yet to make a candle that i didn't use the oils recommended for candle making. =/

hope someone can help and that everyone has a great holiday! =)
