I decided to make one of my valentine gifts this year, a purse for my sister. I was just planing on cutting out the pieces tonight and then working on it tomorrow. But I cut it out... then got out the sewing machine... then got the machine ready to use... and now 3.5 hours later the purse is completely finished. This was my first time making a purse and Im pretty happy with it.

Check it out! )

so yes. i made myself some new earrings the other day, and i dont have a camera but i wanted to share. i really enjoy the wizard of oz (who doesnt?), so i took some barbie shoes, poked holes in the toes, painted them red, and covered them with red glitter. voila, i now have big ruby red slipper earrings. also, it was someone elses idea, i dont remember who, but i put holes in little glow in the dark stars (little as in the smallest ones i could find, not little in the earring respect) and put old mismatched pearl studs through. so yup, those are just some earrings i made recently. i have a lot of funny ones ive made, and my friends many roommates have all taken to referring to me as "fancy earring girl".

i got this lil table for $7 and kinda fixed up heh..

i decoupaged some cd covers on it and painted it my favreet
colour.

first i diluted some regular elmers glue with water and brushed it on top then i put the cd covers down and pressed down on the firmly to get rid of any bubbles.. when it dried i applied 3 coats of matte polyurathane finish to it and let it dry. that's pretty much it hehe.

So let me first say that [livejournal.com profile] chunkdecor inspired this bag. I saw hers and wondered if I could make one myself. I'd just gotten a new sewing machine for christmas and this was my first time using it.

i don't know if any of you have read this book.
it was pretty decent, i jst finished it.
it had a lot of good quotes.
if you want a good read, check it out.

quotes:

"creativity and inspiration are such mysterious processes, so much in the nature of gifts from the heavens, that the means we employ to find them are often bizarrely idiosyncratic. sometimes i feel a particular kind of depression where i just lose interest in everything i normally like. i've identified this state of mind as a hunger of the imagination, my imagination's overwhelming and unsatisfied need for something to seize onto for inspiration. in my case this ennui can be cured most effectively by a visit to a fabric or yarn store. i much prefer to assemble the materials for a project, to fantasize and envision how it will look when it is completed, than to procure the finest finished product, though i occasionally have come across knitting or beadwork so fine that i longed with all my heart to possess it. this is the positive aspect of the craft conundrum i described before: the work lives and thrives in your imagination for a long time, providing pleasure and excitement far beyond its usefulness when finished.”

“so I’m forced to suspend time. To work outside of time. To forget that time exists. On a subconscious level I have to believe I have all the time in the world, or I wouldn’t be able to begin. And something happens when I enter that fallacy. Time, which is fractal, stretches out, and I begin to experience eternity. There is something about that spacious expansion that promotes the growth of large-scale thinking, that enables one to rise above the petty stresses of everyday life. Viewed from a certain perspective, time is the only real luxury we have.”

[haha, this one reminds me of [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl]
“knitters enjoy a strange obsession. Possibly, our enthusiasm can be communicated only from one to another. I have found on the internet that knitters are so overly fond of sharing their joy that one subscribes to a list at one’s peril. The volume of messages generated by the community of knitters on the internet is nothing short of astonishing, especially considering the juxtaposition of such an ancient form of craft with such a modern form of technology.”

[for those of you with copyright issues]
“in the old days when needlework was taught in families and schools, there was always an older and more accomplished knitter you could go to with your questions and concerns. All crafts are passed not in oral but in tactile tradition where you learn with your hands and by your own mistakes and the better example of someone else; as a rule it is difficult to learn a craft from books. Just as creativity is one of the highest forms of human expression, it seems equally true that it is our duty to pass on what we know to future generations so that the precious knowledge, hard-won, and painstakingly accumulated, will not be lost.”

i am playing around on ebay and i think i'm really ready to purchase a sewing machine. but i'm a novice and i have no idea what i want or need or what is a good deal and what is a rip-off. any advice?

i'll be using it for small crafts projects, mostly clothing alterations and such. nothing too heavy-duty. i'd like to spend as little as possible on something that'll do what i need it to do and do it well, if that makes sense.

ideas? advice? recommendations? things to avoid?

if you've played on ebay i'd love your opinions on some of the ones on there...what's good and bad about them.

thank you so much!

Most tiara's have the lil comb things at the back so it'd stay on your head for sure...
but this one

It's just a headband on it's side...Would it stay on one's head?

...Where do you think I can buy a plain tiara...just a silver band but with the comb? Michaels perhaps? Dollar stores?...

BTW, I'm new here, I'm Jane...from Canada...and many of you have done some amazing crafts. I'm amazed...you guys are so talented.

This is a doll I made this afternoon. I call her Ethel. She's just made out of a thin black denim and accented with beads and embroidery floss. I don't use patterns, I just make them up as I go along.

Hi grrls!

I've put up a photo and the instructions for decoupaged tea light holders on my new web site Swanky Living.

The article is here.

There are a few other complete articles on the web site, and a few unfinished ones too. I'm slowly working on adding more stuff. Feel free to explore the site. I hope you like it!

Ok this post is not for the squeamish if you freak out about bleeding girlies. Turn around now.
(I'm not WEARING the blasted things in the pics or anything but if you don't like even thinking about it run away run away!)

I have decided to make DIY period panties with an accompanying velcro-in pad that can be changed easily and washed with regular laundry. I'll probably soak and handwash them here as there's no laundry in my house.

Here're the pics... )

Enjoy!
