I've been wanting to make marble magnets for quite some time, but have never been able to find the proper gluing agent. (Silicone gel, epoxy, diamond glaze..) I recently picked up a tube of General Electric's Silicone II, 100% Silicone Sealant Clear. Is this the same as silicone gel, and / or can it be used for my marble magnets?

ok, so we had a bit of a flame war over a post [livejournal.com profile] dorkyschoolgirl made about a LJ community to support US troops fighting in the war.

i need to address this now because i really am not sure how i can address this in the future.

as the moderator of this community, here is my 2 cents:

this war effects us all, there is no doubt in my mind about that. but this is not the place to be voicing your opinions. there are many communities where open forums are created so everyone can discuss it and voice their thoughts and viewpoints.

i personally don't care one way or another if you are pro or anti war, pro or anti president bush. this is just not the arena to be saying it.
i think it is inappropriate and for all the news coverage ad press this war is getting, i think there should be outlets for people to get away from it all and this community should be one of them. we are all here to share our creativity and love of crafts. not to argue about our political affiliations.

if you have any real problems with that, please email me or comment. but if i get flamed for posting this i will delete all of the comments.

and [livejournal.com profile] dorkyschoolgirl, i'm sorry but i deleted your post. please post it to [livejournal.com profile] community_promo. best of luck with that.

does anyone know: if you bought a pillow from the craft section fo walmart that is 14x14,does that mesurement equal the mesurement for the fabric or is it just the size of the pillow. do you need 14 inches of fabric for the front or more? if more, how much?
wow...i need to learn how to form comprehendable sentances! haha

does anyone know whether mod-podge is waterproof? i found a cute little dish when i cleaned and would like to be able to decorate it and use it as a soap dish; however, it will get wet. just wondering if i should go ahead and try it, or if i should try and find a different use for it.
thanks

I finally got some AOL tins, and wanted to try something with the cds, so I decided to mosaic a picture frame. I kinda thought it was going to be tacky, but I decided to give it a try anyway.Pic )

It's fairly self-explanatory, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Inspired by comments to a post I made a few weeks ago, I have decided to make a silk quilt. Someone here had the brilliant idea of checking out thirft shops for old silk blouses, so today I hit a few and picked up FOUR of those cheesy sandwashed silk blouses for only ten bucks! Huzzah!

Are there any craftgrrls out there who would like to support me in this venture? EVERYONE had some of those sandwashed silk blouses - ten years ago, they were all the rage. I'm hoping a few of you are severe packrats and hung onto them, and now wish to give new life to them by hooking them up with my quilting self. Any takers? Let me know!

Also... what special considerations do I have to think about when sewing with silk? I've never tried it before and I'd love to not muck it up. Anyone have any tips?

Thanks, ladies...

Sara :)

i just wanted to share some things i learnt in class last year, and suggest some things that maybe some people have'nt heard of yet.

1) if you want to glue a magazine image, or even something you've printed off your computer, you can grab the image and cover it with a clear acrylic glue. make sure you cover it evenly in a nice layer. wait for it to dry, and then put it in a cup of water. let it soak for at least 15 mins, then take it out. gently roll the paper off of the gel with your fingers. be very very gentle. once the paper is off, the colour or image will stay onto the gel. it will be a little bit transparent but it won't lose very much colour or detail.

now you can do tons with the picture. glue it onto things, sculptures, put some butterflies on your window, you can even make a flower bottle out of a tall juice bottle with nice images decorating it.

Has anyone used iron-on vinyl to make placemats? I really want placemats that I can wipe off with a rag. But, I'm worried that it's not machine washable.

I'm hoping this will help some people generate a little more traffic. Similar to craftgrrl, I've got a memories section that will be organized by website content (crafts, music, personal, etc). So whether you've just got a personal site or if you have an online business, JOIN UP!

I'm new to this community, so I thought I'd say hello. My name is hallie, and I'm also pretty new to crafting in general. I've tried my hand at crochet and knitting, and I'm also looking into soap making. I don't really have any tips right now, and to be honest, I'm here more to learn than teach. :) So yeah, please bear with me when I ask asinine questions or bore people to death bragging about my meager craft accomplishments. :)

much make
