I have a wooden jewelery box I thought was ugly, so I painted it with acrylics. I was really excited about painting it without thinking through what colors I should use, I like them now, but I want something else.

I found instructions on how to use crackle paint, but since I've painted the box ( dark blue, lime green) I'm not sure if it will come out right

I know I have to paint it white, then use the crackle stuff, but would it crackle the first layer of paint? ( Like, the blue would show too) ;/

I would try it myself, but I don't want to ruin the jewelery box. I want to make it a creamy pink and white, then on the inside i'm going to put dried flowers. I think it will look better than what I have now.

Thanks for any help and sorry if I was confusing.

I was given 2 dozen 1/2 gallon size canning jars and I want to make them into lamps. I do can fruits and vegetables but NEVER need to open a 1/2 gallon size of anything so the jars aren't of practical use to me.

The easy part is putting the lamp fixture to the lid and filling the jar with marbles, rocks, buttons, fabric scraps, etc. I want the electric cord to come out the bottom side of the jar. Does anyone have any ieas on how you drill/cut small cord diameter size hole in the jars without breaking them? Thanks!

So I started and finished (??!!!?!) two more projects! :) And, um, here they are:

Kittie Tote Bag

Ah, the project that finally got me to say "I *WILL* make up patterns for things BEFORE I cut them!" The reason I say this is because the lines don't really line up correctly. But it looks good on the outside, and as it's still one of my "early" sewing projects, it's not too bad.

The yellow fabric I got at WalMart for $1/yd, and the cat fabric I got at a discount fabric store - I think it was $1.25/yd and I had to get the 5 yards that was cut? Pretty sure. They're both lightweight cotton - not so good for a sturdy totebag. :/

The yellow fabric was also a bit transparent. Grr. So I got some of that iron on interfacing stuff, in a suit fabric weight (meaning it's pretty thick - check the label on the bolts, 'cause I don't think the regular light-to-medium weight stuff would work for this, as the suit weight stuff wasn't even that great) and ironed it on - I left the cat print alone. Then I starched all the pieces to death (okay, I used spray starch on each piece 4 times, twice on each side).

I stitched up all the panels together the wrong way, turned them right-side out and then did that fold over the raw edges inside and stitch thing (a french hem, maybe?) to the exposed side. I made the handles by cutting out long lengths of the fabric and folding them in half, then folding the outsides into the middle, then stitched it up.

*IF* I had made all the panels perfect rectangles, it would look really nice inside, with no raw edges. As it is now, there aren't any raw edges, but there are some lumps. *LOL*

With the interfacing and all the dang starching, it's pretty stiff - not as stiff as if I'd used, say, canvas, but definately sturdy and useable. I'm giving it to my mother-in-law - I had her in mind when I saw the fabric. :)

hold your mouse over the images before you click to get a bit of info">
just a close up so you can see the lining a bit   trying to show that the bottom has a rectangle bottom, that I didn't just stitch 2 squares together - I wanted the bag to hold a good amount of stuff

Duct Tape Wallet Deluxe

Not much to tell here - I'm calling it "deluxe" because I added a change purse thingy. ;) I have this little beat-on-with-a-hammer snap kit that I got at WalMart really cheap, and that's what I used to close the change purse and the side strap thing (which I included in case it got a little stuffed from the change and all my stripping ones, hahahaha).

More pics, I think this is all pretty self-explanatory, yes? Oh, I did the change pocket by making little accordion pleats on the sides, so it lays flat if it's empty and has room to open without stretching if I put some coins in there.

Off to make more stuff! :)

hi there. i just started the slimfast diet and i noticed that the cans that the ready- to drink shakes are really strong. so much sturdier than soda cans... being a crafty chica, i wondered what i could do with them. they are slightly larger than a soda can, holding 11 oz. thanks!!1

Question! Where can I get a button maker? I went thru the memories but all that was suggested were online places! and I unfortunately can't buy stuff online! I was wondering if any craft places do like Michael's? thanks!

a friend at work's daughter's 12th birthday is tuesday, and she wanted me to make her a jewelry box and a purse...i just finished them and thought i'd share...

my craftiness... )

i made the box out of photo matte cardboard and a glue gun. the board is very strong, and it holds up really well. the fabric on the box was a little too bunchy. i thought i measured it right, so it would fit snug, but i guess i didn't. if anyone has any better ideas...please let me know!

hey all.... i just joined this community today, and already i'm super inspired to go digging through my enormous "oh this would be cool for an art/craft project" box of supplies that's been neglected for too long. so thanks for the motivating kick in the ass. =)

now for the important stuff.... i just finished sewing a set of roman blinds for my apartment, which came out pretty snazzy, if i do say so myself, and now have my sights set a little higher. i want to make a slipcover for a pretty cool vintage sofa i have (the pattern is great, just not my style). it's small, maybe about 6ft long, and all in one piece - no cushions. has anyone done this before? i'm curious how much fabric i'll need to buy. i'm probably just gonna tuck-and-staple a lot of it rather than custom sewing corners, but i still have no idea how to gauge how much fabric to get.

also, any good, cheap online fabric store recommendations? (i'm sure this is in the FAQ...)

any advice would be totally appreciated...

I have this class called (of all things) "Christianity & The Creative Process" and I hae to do a "creative project." It's so open that it's actually kind of ridiculous. I'm not really good at anything crafy, so I thought of typing some of my LJ entries that actually deal with a topic (like a movie, or a big idea I've had) and taking some photos to stick in there as well. I want to turn it into a book.

So, with the understanding that (1) I am not really talented when it comes to using my hands in crafty type ways and (2) I want to make a book, How do I make the book? I have no idea how do this sort of thing, so your input would be greatly appreciated

Okay, here's my deal.

Our school is having this "battle of the sexes" thing. They're selling tee-shirts for it; the hot pink ones have a girls bathroom sign on it and the blue ones have the boys one one it. So, I now have a well fitting hot pink shirt with a girls logo on it. But, since every girl is pretty much having the same shirt, I want to spice it up a bit. Any suggestions?

x-posted.

Ok I just did my first batch of CP soap, and let me tell you I was SWEATING bullets.
The whole scene in Fight Club has made me terrified of lye. Haha. So yeah, I didn't burn myself and I had my vinegar on hand.
I made lavender and vanilla cream bars, I hope it turns out ok, it was quite nerve wracking!
I did recognize trace as soon as it happened and thank the stars for stick blenders!
Ok if I remember anything else I will come back and edit!

I want to learn to quilt. I've always wanted to learn to quilt. So I'm sitting here online looking up info about learning to quilt. My goal is to make a t-shirt quilt. Has anyone ever made one of those before?

While I was looking, I found these pillows. Can anyone give me an idea on where to start to make these (what I would need, how I would cut them, etc.?)

Any comments would be appriciated.
