i was reading the comments to [livejournal.com profile] creepcake's post about her adorable marble magnets, and noticed a few people complaing that they have no wal marts near them. Well, i don't know if they sell *everything* on the site that they have in the stores, but have you tried walmart.com? Also, if that doesn't work and there is something you want/need from walmart, email me and let me know. If you pay for the item and postage only, i'll get it for you. There is no need for anyone to go without anything!

Hello!
I was working on my bead loom last night, making some wonderful bracelettes.. when I realized I was nearly out of black seed beads. wwell all the stores in town here charge extraordinary prices for a small amount of beads like $2.50 for half a tablespoon. so I was wonderring if anyone would be intrested in participating in a seed bead swap?
Everyone has little piles of beads they never use I'm sure. (at least all the craft grrls I know).
So if you're intrested e-mail me (sunnysis77@hotmail.com) your:
-name
-address
-e-mail (if you'd prefer to be contacted to a different inbox)
-your preferance of seed bead (understand this preferance may not be met, but it's a nice suggestion)

if enough people are intrested you will be e-mailed with the name of a fellow craft grrl whom you are to send your beads too, and I will give your name to another grrl on the list. That way everyone gets beads sent to them and have an "assignment" they are to send their beads too. Please e-mail me if you're intrested.

p.s. Kimmercake... if this kind of trading is not allowed please delete this post, sorry if I'm infringing on anything.

Well... I don't know if it would be a trade, exactly... AnywayS, I need some new beads, and I went to Walmart yesterday but didn't find anything (not that I really expected to, I guess.) If anyone has beads they don't want anymore, I'd be glad to take them off your hands! Maybe we could do a bead trade or something?? Buy 1 or 2 little bags of beads (not sucky standard ones, some that aren't plain, ya know?) and send them to each other or something... Or not. Let me know what you think.

[Note: I seriously posted this without looking below first... I'm sorry. But I'm not neccesarily lokoing to do something so intricate, just send a bag of beads to someone or something like that... and I'm looking mostly for beads that will go over hemp. Sorry for being a copycat!!]

Hi everyone!

I just thought I'd introduce myself. I've been reading craftgrrl for a while now. It's one of the big reasons I joined LJ. My name is Christine and I live in the Detroit area. I'm pretty much a neophyte crafter. I crochet, do some scrapbooking (actually collect stuff to scrapbook, but never really getting around to actually doing it, gotta love the stickers), paint, collect found items like photographs and stuff. I collect a lot of stuff, which I'm always meaning to do something with but never do. I'm loving all the inspirational ideas that come from here. Sometime soon, I'd like to post some of the things I've made here. In the meantime, you can count on my support for all your projects. Thanks for having me.

Just wanted to mention a few things I've picked up regarding painting metals. *grin*

* There is a craft paint primer for metal surfaces, to keep it from rusting at a later date. However, the only place I've ever seen it is at Joann's. I'm sure my local stores just aren't carrying it. It's by Deltacoat.

* I've found it's easier to decorate/cover tins that already have writing and images on them by throwing a layer of spray paint primer on them. I used to sand the tins down until no paint remained. Now I just give a quick coat of the primer and in 15 minutes I can start working on them! The primer I'm using is made for cars (maybe? I got it at PepBoys) and is called "Sandable Primer". It's dark grey, which can be a problem if you're using light colored spray paints on top, but works fine if you plan to use acrylic craft paints on top of it. I'm sure there's lighter primers out there - I just didn't know any better at the time.

* Spray paint formulated for cars comes out in a tall line, instead of a wide circle. Do a test somewhere else first - I love using the stuff, but every can is different. And unfortunately, unlike all other spray paints, you can't change caps with the stuff made for cars.

* Some of the spray paints for cars are absolutely amazing! In particular, I'm currently in love with "anodized -insert color here-", which looks like really shiny aluminum. Fantastic! However, I've noted that, at least with the red, it's a transparent kind of thing. Still, over my dark grey primer I got a neat anodized maroon...

* Spray paint works great on metal, and can be the best way to get a nice, even base color on your item, without brush strokes. Sand lightly with a very fine grit (just barely rough it up - you don't want to change the look of the base at all) and you can use any other kinds of paints on top after.

* Spray paint is reasonably cheap and can be found at any hardware store. You can get tiny cans of spray paint made for models at hobby shops. You can also get tiny cans at hardware stores sometimes.

* Glitter spray makes everything look swanky. ;)

~Kissy, going back to painting her former Altoids tins now that the primer's dry...

ok, i'm not quite sure how to go about doing this, but i'll give it a shot:

i manage a custom framing shop that orders prints from catalogs. one of our print suppliers recently sent us a new, updated catalog, and we were just supposed to throw the old one away. however, this catalog is a TREASURE of little art images, perfect for decoupaging anything you'd ever want to. they're all very good reproductions on heavy paper. i just couldn't bear to throw it away! however, i'll also NEVER use even a fraction of how many images there are, so i thought i'd offer them up here!

the only way i can think to distribute them to anyone who might want them is this:

they have a website; anyone interested can go see if there are any images they'd like to use (as many as you want, i don't care), and then email me at

fish_in_the_perkolator@yahoo.com

so i can see if i've got them (just the artist's name and title of the image is enough for me to look in the index). please keep in mind that the website will have all the updated images that this catalog doesn't, so i won't have everything. then i'll just have everyone send me a SASE and i'll send them out pronto!

let's hack this catalog into oblivion!

I spotted some beautiful green moss growing beside my apartment building this morning. Any ideas as to something crafty that I could do with it?

does anyone have any suggestions on how to decorate a large mirror?

my bathroom is relatively small, but it has this HUGE mirror inside. it's about 6x3 ft. it covers most of one wall. i want to decorate the bathroom, but nothing too permanent since we'll probably be moving in late july.

i'm going to be making a shower curtain using this idea. inside the pockets i'm thinking of using various pictures of bands playing live, but obscurely cropped.

i might just buy a bathmat, or if i have the time and patience, maybe one out of an old pair of jeans. i'm leaving the wallpaper as is, but i'm going to frame a few large fliers i have from shows and mount them onto the cupboards.

the sink is large, so i'm going to spice it up with lots of candles.

i thought of all of this in about 5 minutes in the shower today. i don't want anything too complicated, since i am probably going to move. i just wanted a creative outlet and since my bathroom is SO UGLY i thought this would be a nice project.

so, anyways..any mirror ideas?

thanks!!!!

Not really, since you can be added after it goes out, but i wanted to post one more message about the traveling craft journal. It will be going out a week from today (since i'm going out of town this weekend) and since i get at least one email from someone everytime i post about it, i wanted to try one more time before i print my list on friday to take with me to get it ready! So...

if you want to participate, email me at laurenybeth@livejournal.com with your lj name, mailing info, and emial address and i'll add you!
