I've had so many questions lately haha sorry =X
I looked in the memories and all I saw close to this topic was knitting legwarmers. But if you were sewing them, would there be any special pattern you should follow or what? I thought in my mind it would be pretty simple, but once I laid out my fabric and thought it over..it seems like it would be a bit tricky getting the material to fit correctly around the leg. Any suggestions?

I've noticed a lot of people who're beginning sewers asking for help lately.

Go here
or here

and I really just like this guy ^_^

Do it now.

Personally, I think nothing beats being taught in person, but if you can't get that, then this should help you out. I'm no master of the machine myself, but I know it's frustrating to wanna do something, and not have the slightest idea where to start (I mean, we've all felt that way at SOME point, right? ^_^ ).

Sorry if I sound condascending, I work with kids a lot, I end up talking down to even the most intelligent of folk (such as yourselves).

Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] mindboggld, I've gathered the courage to post a link to some of my artwork.

[ My Site ]

The only link that's up now is the gallery. It's mostly sketches or small projects I've done. I'd be interested on feedback about the site layout and format. I could use all the help I can get ::grin::

lip balm

I have some questions about making lip balm.. first of all
you are supposed to use a pyrex measuring cup.. is that a type of plastic? can you use glass?
I'm buying about 10 lip balm tubes and little circular ones, how much beeswax is needed to fill 20 containers? how many oz.
Do pipettes have numbers on them so it's easy to measure?
and does anyone have some tips for me.

What are some sites to buy things for lip balm making, i found a bunch already, but i thought i'd ask again anyway before I buy the stuff.
And does anyone prefer candelilla wax vs beeswax?
Or anyone have really good recipies that they're tried and like.
thanks ; )

a couple questions:

a) what are good ways of making your own stamps? i'm working on cd covers for my band's tour and i'd like to have a good print on the cover. i don't have the money to buy my own. i've heard of doing cork ones and even potato ones, although i don't know how well they'd turn out. any cheap suggestions?

b) i'd like some new ideas for altering t-shirts/tank tops. help!

ive never posted here before as most my crafts are increadibly inadiquate and crumby [like painted altoids tins and knit wristbands and stuff like that] but i was bored last night, i have 5 meters of black windbreaker material (think like a k-way jacket), stuffing, and odds and ends of felt and picture hanging wire...
feel the wrath of bob the quasi evil bunny ) they're so easy to make [drew shape out on paper, sewed, stuffed, sewed off bottom, glued on appendages, bob himself is about 5 inches tall] and i now have plans to make up about 50 for camp this summer [horray for being a camp councillor]

later.

Hi, I just discovered this community and it's so cool.

I saw these candle holders in a catalog and thought they'd be really easy to make by crocheting and recycling glass containers (I thought the Starbuck glass bottles would be good).

However, I'm new to crocheting and not very good - does anyone have any ideas what kind of shape would be needed? or another way of doing it?

Thanks!

I haven't posted in here in a while :)

I am currently knitting a bag that may end up being my new bag for school. I am planning on getting a waterproof fabric to line it with and I was wondering if anyone knew of some way to waterproof the actually knitted material. Is there some kind of spray I could use to do that that wouldn't wreck the bag or make it super stiff? I'm using plain old acrylic yarn. Any ideas would be most helpful. Thanks!

Does anyone have lip balm recipes for only making a few at a time, most have instructions to add.. a lot at a time.

thanks

I'm totally new to this group. I was wondering if... Does anyone know any patterns for knitting hats (other than beanies) online or with them. If you have one for a cap or a fisherman's hat or something that would be really great! Vintage knitting pattern would be really awesome if you have some of those too. =)

I haven't posted anything I've made in this community before, so here are somethings I've done that aren't up anywhere else. I'd love some feedback good/bad/indifferent.

I'm watching While You Were Out, and they're making faux stained glass wall sconces by melting gummy bears between sheets of saran wrap (.. or cellophane.. I'm pretty sure it was cling wrap stuff) in the microwave. Then they'd put it between two cooling racks and let it harden for awhile. It looked really neat, and I'm thinking of maybe covering my window with it.

I'm just leery that it might attract ants. That would... not be good.

Anyway, just sharing, incase anyone wanted to attempt something stained-glassy. Or maybe Christmas ornaments or something?

Hey crafters. I've been watching this community for a while, and I have a question. It's somewhat non-crafty, but here it goes... My friend's sixteenth birthday is coming up, and I want to make her a cd with songs related to being sixteen. So far I have Sweet Sixteen by Wakefield, Sixteen by No Doubt, You're Sixteen by Ringo Starr, Sweet Sixteen by Billy Idol, and a few others. Any suggestions? Her birthday's not for a while, so I've got some time to brainstorm. Thanks! - Lauren

i have looked for a good 10 minutes at the FAQ and i couldn't come up with what i was looking for... so i'm hoping a few of you could help me out. a friend of mine is actually an aspiring photographer and has a lot of film cans and she feels bad throwing them all away. so... we were wondering what we could with all of them... thanks a lot!

and on another note... what's a good website for DIY stuff.

Ok... here's the deal. I'm counting on someone here to give me a fantastic idea....
at my school, we have, like many other universities, a Summer Orientation program for incoming first year students. I am one of 53 OL's (orientation leaders) who are trained together and work together to plan and then follow through with summer orientation. Now, being that we are together for a good amount of time, and put a lot of long hours into this, I want to make something little but signifigant/meaningful for each of them at the end of the summer. Now, I also don't want to spend a fortune.
My former roommate is getting a puzzle, repainting the pieces, glueing pins to the back and giving everyone a "piece of the puzzle"
Now, I would be really jealous because I think it's a great idea, but I know she stole the idea from someone she was in a theater production with ;)
And I want to outdo her kinda, haha, (in a friendly competitive kinda way) so any help would be appreciated.

anyway... any ideas would be great...l the theme is "Learn from yesterday, Engage today, Succeed tomorrow" or just Learn...Engage... Succeed
I don't know if that might help brainstorm :) thanks!

OK- here's my thing.

I love love love Kate Spade bags. Love them so much that I'm seriously willing to consider spending over $100 (or more..) for one. And it's not just the label, I just love the sort of box-y look and the stiffness and.. I don't know, I just am in love with them. I had a fake Kate Spade purse that I loved loved loved, and combined with my real Kate Spade wallet I got as a Christmas present from a rich relative, I felt very stylish.

Anyway. I was walking through Neiman-Marcus today to get to the mall, and I saw something that.. I just adored.

a picture of a version of the bag I saw )

OK. So how could I recreate the shape of the bag? Some kind of pattern, and use card stock on the inside? Has anyone attempted something like this? Any patterns, or reccomendations?

and the bag.. on the clearance table - reduced from $245 to $143. It's a good thing I didn't have money on my credit cards, 'cause I was in love. Seriously.

Hello everyone...This is my first post, and I'm pretty sure my question isn't in the FAQ. I'm going on vacation to Hawaii, and it's a 10+ hour plane ride. *falls over dead* So I came up with some crochet projects to do on the flight. The only problem is I'm afraid with heightened security and such that they'll have a problem with the having crochet needles. (or at least my mother seems to think that they'll take them.) I checked out some site that lists what you can and can't have in your carry on, but it said nothing about knitting or crochet needles. So has anyone here traveled with crochet needles in their carry on and was given a hard time about it?

i just got back from AZ from visiting my boyfriend at his parents' house. i made his parents a really cute box with overlapping tissue paper and modge podge and filled them with candy i made.

but then i got really really sick on my last night
(and what a shame, i had to stay some extra time to get better)

soooo..i made his parents soap as a thank-you. but it kept going horribly, horribly wrong. after 5 1/2 hours, i completed red, white, and blue stars. not so interesting, i know. but i also made clear bars with harry potter shaped candles inside of them. they came out great looking. i just wanted to share.

the ones for his parents are in a basket with ribbons and little flags, all 4th of july like. it looks very cute. and a million dollars cheaper than buying a pretty "thank you" basket.
