Hey!
I'm in the process of setting up an email-based ezine called Lip Service. It's aims? To promote and discuss the following issues -

***feminism in the 21st century - where do we go from here?
***the "diy revolution" (whys, whats and how to's)
***your local music scene - do you have a band/distro you wanna promote?
***literature - i want to send as much of your work as possible, be it poetry, short stories or articles on WHAT YOU FEEL IS IMPORTANT.
***good, fun websites
***recipes

A pretty broad spectrum of ideas. If you wanna help email me at lipservicezine@aol.com or if you want to subscribe to it, put "join" in the subject line.

hey fellow craftgirls, i need your help. im a lurker for quite a while here, and i decided to join now. i have been wanting to repaint my guitar, which is a peavey raptor. its this GROSS offwhite color, and its got some sort of hard plastic over the body. anyway, im not sure what paint i should use on it that will be permanent, do you have any ideas? model car paint? oh i donno. also, my band has asked me to make patches that we can distribute when we have shows, and i was thinking of doing silkscreening or something, but im not sure how to do that. ive looked in the faq, but its got me totally confused.

i gathered up all my millions of odballs of pink, rasberry, red, peach and so on and made a pretty cool scarf. its 6ft long and i love it. it looks kinda wonky because i just scanned it instead of taking a picture

I just got my tin in the mail from [livejournal.com profile] elena_marie.

Note: The pictures will take a while to load, but they should load for everyone and not exceed bandwidth limits, which is why I'm using boomspeed for this.

bookmarks?

two girlfriends and i are taking a vacation together this month and we have a tradition of making a gift bag for each friend and swapping when we get to our destination. i'm buying each of us a copy of the same book (we've been trying to do a book club for ages, lol) and i want to make a bookmark to stick in.

my question is this - i'm thinking of doing a decoupage sort of thing with inside-joke type media, but i want it to be thin enough and sturdy enough to be a suitable bookmark, so i want to check with you gals as to which materials would be best suited to this project. at first i was thinking about taking a bit of cardboard, maybe from a cereal box, then decoupaging my stuff on both sides and adding a tassel on the top, but i don't know if that will be sturdy enough. would it be worth going somewhere to get them laminated? i've already spent more than i should, lol, so i'd like to keep it cheep.

i hope that this isn't against the rules - i'm not affiliated with this website, but they have lots of cool/retro fabrics, buttons, patches, t-shirts and trims. their stuff is usually out of my price range, so when i saw they're doing a moving sale after the 4th of july, i wanted to share the wealth ;)

Hi everyone!

For the past couple of years I have had one of our old bathtubs out in the front yard, functioning as a pretty flower garden during the warm months.

The problem is, the warm months are short-lived, and a lot of the time there's not anything growing in the tub.

So I want to decorate it. I saw a tub downtown that was all decorated with pieces of things stuck in some kind of white cementy looking stuff. Pieces of china, mirror, marbles, etc. I'd love to do this to my tub, but what is that white cementy stuff? Will the tub be okay to sit outside year round? How do I prepare the tub for being decorated?

does anyone know how to get acrylic paint off clothes? i was doing some stencils, and i really don't like how one of them came out but i don't know the best way to remove it. thanks!

oo.. i got tons of craft stuff lately!

On saturday i was in Columbus ohio for the Ani DiFranco concert, and we stayed at a hotel just down the street from a Micheals, so i picked up:
a purple glass-bead kit;
cardstock for the cover of my zine;
a gnome to be painted.

today i had to run to walmart to pick up a zipper for the halter top i am making, and i also found:
wooden beads (one set beige w/leopard print and one set dark purple w/beige/yellow flowers on it);
beading string;
beading needles/threader;
Hemp;
and the best part, and the reason for this entry: this beautiful hot pink fabric with hawaiian print on it.

Now, my question is this:
what can i make that will be EXTRAVAGANT with this hot pink fabric? i am thinking another halter top, but i don't want to make another.
anyone have any ideas at all?

I'm beyond psyched! My neighbour has lent me her sewing machine for a few days to see if I want one. I'm almost positive I do since it's a great value for it's price. I have a shitload of gray polar fleece fabric left over from my magnificent pants. It's a lot of fabric, but not enough to make a piece of clothing out of. And it's not uniform. I was thinking of a lovely polar fleece purse (or several). I don't know though... what do you guys think?

If I did a purse with buttons, I could try out the button-holing feature too. It's a White 1740.

Question: When I decoupage, I used Elmer's glue instead of modgepodge. When I use pictures printed from the computer, or watercolored pictures, the colors run. Is there anyway to prevent that?
[identity profile] opulent-jezebel.livejournal.com
after doing some purse making,I found that I have a yard of cherry print,and then green olive print fabric left.I also have a yard of cream coloured liner left too.would anyone be interested in taking these off of my hands?

Diary

I made myself a diary. Well, actually, I bought a nice, hard-cover notepad, but kinda 'modified' it. I got some metal piece things from the hardware store, made few holes on the hardcover and glued the metal pieces well on it, and secured it with beading string (really good stuff) and quick-glue. And I have a cute small lock for it (I am paranoid, yes? ;) Better safe than sorry.) It is difficult to open, and if someone manages to do that, I can see it (they have to rip it apart) and then I'm ready to find the guilty one and tear this person's insestines out with a spoon. :P

I like the darker and simplier look more, so I printed a pic of myself which I like and stuck it on the front cover (gee, paranoid *and* narcissic? ;) Well, the diary is about and for me after all.) and some nice logos which have personal meaning for me or just look nifty (how many can you recognize?) and two band titles. I like the result, simple but cool and dark. :)

And the pics;
Front with the lock before painting
Back with some pictures slapped on it
Front ready
Back-ready

I glued the pics with Eri-Keeper, uh, your basic crafty glue, and I smoothed it well and stacked some books on the thing between every step, to keep it as smooth as possible. I noticed that my water-based craft laquer messed up the printed images, so I applied a thin layer of that glue to the pics (it dries clear) and laquered after that, works well and won't smear. The black paint is just high-gloss enamel craft paint. :)
