i know there is an faq section on it, but i'm still confuz-ed.

i made a paper collage on a book i hollowed, and i want it to last. i have a can of spray fixative, but i've only ever used it on charcol drawings. i don't really think it would work....anyway. right now all the cut-out images are dry-mounted with rubber cement on the inside covers of the book.

collaging being awesome, i figure there has to be some ladies who've done this. i've never used mod podge before, but my understanding is that it could be used to preserve the collage.

i'll post pics when it's dry and finnished. gotta keep busy now that the boy is back home and i still have another month here without 'im.

thanks very much!

I looked in the links section and did not see anything there about it, is there a website for auctioning craft supplies? I know i can sell them on exsisting sites, but sometimes there is auction sites for specific items, is there one? Also since the search function is not working, is there communities for journaling? ) is that even the right word?)

Thanks!

hey guys. when i went to micheal's a few months back, i was updating all my scrapbooking supplies, and the woman told me that spray adhesive would be such a good idea. so i bought (elmer's) spray adhesive. no acid/good for pictures, etc.

so i used it. and it's just so disgustingly sticky. if i get it on my skin, it takes forever to get it out. is that normal? is there a spray adhesive that won't be that tacky? because it's even made pictures for my scrapbook sticky.. and the spray goes through any decorative paper.

gah. any tips/helps/comments- appreciated :)

so i got some stuff to make marble magnets, but i've run into a couple of problems:

1 - maybe 15 out of the entire bag of marbles are actually clear enough to see the pictures through... did anyone else have this problem?

2- i used the bond 527 clear cement, but there are still air bubbles between the marble and the art.. any suggestions about what i should do about this?

also, where should i go to get a circular craft punch?

I want to make a scrap book for my senior year of High School. Any ideas? I have no idea what to get and i'm a little low on cash. Can i use a regular notebook and just decorate it and put the pictures on NB paper? Maybe even the Gel Pens nb? I am so out of ideas and i just wanted to know if anyone could help get me started.

Thanks.

Hi there, I'm new to this community. So far it's been a wealth of information. Thanks for sharing :)

I was wondering if anyone knows of any good fabric stores online? I'm stuck in a city that has no fabric stores except Fabricland.....

Thanks!

Hi all. I've been watching this comm for a bit and decided to join. I've just discovered the wonders of sewing and thought I might share my first creation.

Lookie here )

I had to create the pattern myself, which was actually easier than I thought. If anyone would like instructions on how to create it, I could attempt to post them.

My newest projects involve sewing cotton patches onto cotton t-shirts and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to keep the stretchy cotton from shifting while I was sewing (I sew on a vintage Singer c.1970s, btw). Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Keep up the good work and all. <3

I just posted a bunch of pictures in my journal of my suncatchers. My brother actually made these, and I took them to Seattle, WA and Tacoma, WA Pride Festivals. I sold quite a few and was very happy with the results.

I thought I'd share them here as well, just because I'm so proud of them.

so my drawers have smelly old gross smell in them and i was wondering what would make that go away?
would the kind of paper you line drawers with help at all??
i don't like to put clothes in there because it makes me smell like an antique.
thanks

Did anyone here ever customize their faceplate for their cell phone? I see all kinds on ebay that people have done, but I wouldn't know what to do. Some say protected with a clearcoat...but nothing else. So, what paint could I use that would not chip, what clearcoat would I use, and if I wanted to use a picture...would decopage do the trick?

Thanks so much gals!

I also want to thank all of you who commented with the homemade cloth sanitary pads. I haven't tried any yet, but I have tons to chose from! :)

What is there to do with Shrinky Dinks? They're so addictive and fun to make but really, really pointless. Is there a Shrinky Dink community?
[identity profile] stolenjunk.livejournal.com
alright so first of all by posting a comment to this entry you have agreed that you will not make fun of me under penalty of four hours of soap operas.

my friend recently gave me a kenmore sewing machine that had bee nsitting in her garage. it has everyhting, needle thread etc. and i'm way stoke about using it. the thing is, it's bee na while and i don't exactly remember how. does anyone know of a website with instructions on setting up the thread, etc?

second, the longs drugstore by my house decided to stop carrying "yarn notions" and got rid of their whole stock, at $.50 an item. i bought a bunch of cool stuff, including circular knitting needles in three sizes. i know what these are for and i have the basic idea of how to use them, but once again if anyone could offer assistance i would be much obliged.

I made these a week ago last Friday, i got the idea from one of the members here. I'm planning other designs to make for earrings, including glow in the dark bugs for Samhain, and a beaded necklace. Next Thursday, we're making photo frames at Youmg Mum's group, last fortnight we made cloth books, but we only basically had a couple of hours to do them, so mine didn't turn out that well. I'll post pics of that in a seperate post :)

At my high school, they always give us some crappy little handbook that we're supposed to write our homework assignments in and stuff. Well this year, they made it all red-white-and-blue and... just overly vomitful. I'm NOT patriotic. Sure, I love living here in America but... screw it. I don't even say the pledge. Besides, I NEVER use my handbook and neither does a lot of my friends. But we have to keep it cause if you don't have one, youo don't get a pass to go to the bathroom.

It's just a regular spiral little notebook... I'd say like 8 by 6ish. I cut out all the pages with boring crap in it. Left inside the stuff I'll need like pass pages and the map of the school and random math formulae pages. I was left with something about 12 pages thick. Now most of us have small purses that can hold a hairbrush tops, and i'm not carrying around an 8 by 6 book with 12 pages in it. So I folded the pages in half longwise, cut the front and back covers in half longwise. so now I have like an 8 by 3 book. I could probably even go as far as to cut it in half width wise as well, but this is fine enough for me.

The spiral is so that it's not really a spiral per se but you can pop the pages out easier. I popped out the covers out and since I have no paint I covered it in silver duct tape. I used a hole punch to re-do the holes and now I'll use like a sharpie to draw on it or put song lyrics or stickers. I love it now. My school does have a rule against defaming ur book (aka making it personal and your own... even though you BUY them and they're technically your property.) but they don't really enforce it too much and as long as it doesn't say a bunch of curse words or have a picture of like a student decapitating a teacher, they probably won't get too pissed.

Oh well. I know a lot of kids do this, but I thought I'd do a post. Hope this gave some people some ideas. :D

I'd like to make my own vegan lip gloss, but many of the recipes call for beeswax. I know candelilia wax can be used, and is vegan... but can I substitute it? Like if a recipe calls for beeswax, can I substitute the same amount of candelilia wax, or will that somehow make it so it doesn't turn out?

i am trying to crochet this cute bag, but the pattern is tripping me up a little. in the very beginning it says 'chain 28. round 1: hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch...'

i guess what is so confusing is the fact that i am not working in circles.. or am i?? maybe i missed something in the pattern that will explain... please help!

After trying on several veils at the bridal store yesterday, and seeing that they were $1-200, I quickly decided that I will need to either purchase one on Ebay or fabricate my own...

The problem is, this is a daunting task for me! I am a perfectionist, and this is for my wedding, so it has to be absolutely fabulous!

What I want is an elbow-length, 2-tiered ivory veil, wide enough to frame over my shoulders but not poofy, attached to ONLY a little hair clip (I'll get a headpiece separately), and with a thin ivory rattail cording around the edges.

Can anyone offer me any general advice or links on how to make such a thing? I KNOW it can't be difficult enough to warrant paying $100 for someone else to do it! Heh... I just don't know where to begin.

A question for all my decoupaging sisters (and brothers, also ;) ).

I've been decoupaging with ink jet images printed out on photo paper and sprayed with clear acrylic spray (gloss). Sometimes, my project turns out perfect. Other times, it bubbles and I can't for the life of me get the bubbles out without ruining the photo. Any suggestions?

Thanks and muah!

ok ay i have the cicular knitting needle thing worked out but i SERIOUSLY need help with my sewing machine. i know how to use it, just not how to thread it. it is a kenmore model #385.12618890 and the only manuals i can find online cost money. i'm only borrowing the machine (from someone else who doesn't know how to use it) and i don't want to buy an entire manual just to thread the stupid thing. if anyone can help me or direct me to someone who can you will have my eternal gratitude. please!!!

Hi! I made this bag tonight, which I totally love! I'm going to a wedding on Saturday and wearing a black dress with white polka dots and so I made a bag to match. I wanted to add a little bit of color, and so I added the flower. I can't wait to use it this weekend!!!

Anyway, here's some bigger pics )
