what type of fabric would curl up and not unravel like tshirt material does? Do i just go to the fabric store and ask for tshirt material or something? Or is there a certain blend that i look for.

I figure I'll post in sew_hip later if i dont get many replies to this.

In the movie Crazy Beautiful she takes a polaroid of her boyfriend and then somehow opens it up and sticks it to the paper and it leaves an imprint of the photo .. anybody know how to do this? I've tried and no luck. If anybody knows it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

first of all, i finally finished my album cover purse after abandoning it after realizing that the impossibly large amount of hole i had punched would mean quite a bit of lacing. )

i spied this really lovely vintage handkerchief while thrifting the other day, and since it was less than a dollar i couldnt let just leave it there looking so lonely among the other fabric handkerchiefs! so i bought it, and now im sitting here staring at it (which is nice, since its so pretty), but i feel like i should put it to good use. i have no desire to use it for its original purpose (to me that seems even sacreligious!), and its not big enough to use as a hair wrap or anything. its a square (about 16 inches on the diagonal) of thin cotton, with red and white polka dots, sweet blue flowers, and blue edging (but it isnt red white and blue in the cheesy patriotic way). all i can think of so far is to wrap it around my ponytail, but that would be kind of pointless since it would obscure the pattern. ive seen a thing online for turning handkerchiefs into underwear, but it really doesnt look like its big enough, even though the site says it should work. so sorry for wasting so much space over a silly piece of cloth, but i really want to know if theres anything to do with it other than just look!

I'm new here. I tried looking through the memories for this one.

A while back I remember on S&TC Sarah Jessica Parker rocked a Rhinestone studded cell phone and it became the craze of the century here in NYC. Every chick that worked in Magazine Publishing, Media, Public Relations and other assorted pashmina shawl wearing chicks just HAD to have these phones.

Well, this pisses me off that these other two RICH bitches got the credit for "discovering" this whole phenomenom, or "creating" it.

http://www.fanci.com

they claim that Jennifer Oz Leroy, Heiress of the Tavern on the Green restaurant and her friend started it when they kept mixing up the cell phones they both had.

it's COMPLETE bullshit. First of all I refuse to pay $400-600.00 to these rich hoes for these phone covers.

second of all

this WONDERFUL ghetto Fabulous Banjee Cunt boi who's name escape's me, and I so whish I could give him proper credit since he is was dope as hell at designing shit and is an F.I.T drop out started this trend about 3 years ago making them out of his APARTMENT. It all started with a whole trend of people in lower income neighborhoods putting fake diamond studds on our baseballhats and our jeans around the labels to make them more noticable and then it just started to go to blackberry's, two ways, cellphones, belts, you name it, everyone studded it.

/rant

ok, I get a little passionate in my ranting.
___________________________________________________________
well long story short:
if anyone needs help making these phones
I can give pointers or suggestions and email you some patterns

I use a tweezer and crazy glue and any old small assorted rhinestones from any craft store, they are easy to make, it's just time consuming as hell.

I have been making some beaded cuffs lately. First I mapped these patterns out on graph paper, then I turned them into bracelets.
They were originally suppose to be beaded safety pin pins, but I decided that I liked beaded cuffs better.
Hope ya like them!!

yaaaay i found some marbles! look how BIG they are.
i wont have to squoosh in some kind of tiny photo after all :]

who would have thought i'd get so excited over marbles? :)
i went to several flower shops, thats where some site told me to do
and no flower shop had them so i walked into housewear shops which
is a good idea. but they didn't have any marbles either. most people
told me 'ooooh. yes. it was very popular once. you could buy it by the
pound! but its history now'..so finally my mom and i went home when she
saw this BUTT UGLY housewear store and we went in and of course,
the marbles were all over the place, every size and color! :p
next step is to wait till some magnets will arrive to the little craft store
near my house, make some magnets and find some kind of metal board
to put above my desk. fancy, eh?

I already looked around but could not find the answer, so.....
Does anybody know how to keep the edges of stockinette from curling? I'm about to start knitting a hood onto a hoodie sweater and I do not want the edges to curl. The pattern actually called for curled cuffs and bands but i edited that out. The pattern is free from Lion Brand but I can't seem to find a link. I think it's A Family of Hooded Sweaters with Homespun yarn.

i was the one complaining that i bought a badge a minit and the buttons came out really bad. i purchased one of the Dr. Don's button machines and i am telling everyone... if you want quailty, professional buttons EVERY TIME... this is the only way to go... it's fool proof. perfect buttons every time and a lot less work than badge a minit. Dr. Don purchases button machines by Tecre and sells them for a lot more. however, i found a seller of Tecre machines who sells for -a lot- cheaper. contact me if you would like to know more.

so here's something interesting..

i just figured out that [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl has accumulated a bunch of livejournal codes. [dur, i'm an idiot]

honestly, i have NO idea what to do with them!

so, i was thinking - we could donate them to a code-less person who really wants to be a member of [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl? but i think it should defintiely be someone who really wants to be here, not just anyone who needs a code? or should it matter? should we have a screening process or something?

suggestions would be cool. like i said, i have no use for these and dont want them to go to waste! help!
[identity profile] subgirl.livejournal.com
okay, so i'm wanting to start this huge project that i've been thinking about for about 4 years now.

a duct tape body double.

anyone have any experience/hints/tips for making one?

New skirt

Aug. 13th, 2003 05:42 pm
[identity profile] geetargeek.livejournal.com

I got the fabric at Walmart for 2 dollars a yard and I used these directions. The only thing I changed is that instread of a zipper I used a drawstring, and I also skipped the darts.

Easiest skirt ever!
[identity profile] evilmannequine.livejournal.com
so I have a question for y'all.

a while back I got some plaster from one of my projects on one of my favorite skirts.

it has not come out yet. the skirt is black and stretchy. and yeah, it fucking sucks!

any of you crafty grrls have experience with this? any tips?

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knew how to "zap" a photo in photoshop so it could be easier to make a stencil out of? If that make any sense? Thanks in advance!! :)
[identity profile] leahseraph.livejournal.com
I recently posted a sweatshirt I made, and mentioned that I might sell it eventually. I'm sorry if this violated anyone's interpretation of the community rules - I didn't post it to sell it here, so I'm hoping it's not a problem. We've had a number of situations like that recently - someone wants to show their stuff off, and either is selling it elsewhere, or someone comments wanting to buy it.

My suggestion: We could create another community, to parallel craftgrrl, for items that have already been posted on craftgrrl that are for sale or trade. That way, if someone sees something and wishes they could buy it, they just check the other community to see if it's up there, and craftgrrl can be reserved for admiring peoples' work.

I'd be happy to donate a code for this community. What do y'all think?
[identity profile] caraismatic.livejournal.com
i know this is random but.....

i thought you craftygrrls could help me....i need to make a pillsbury doughboy costume....i have about 2 weeks...it needs to be super poofy, and kinda durable since i'm wearing it in a fight scene (I say "whoo hoo" when i get stabbed, isn't that great?) Should i just sew a huge outfit, or what? I was thinking white contractors bags stuffed with something...any ideas would help...thanks!!
[identity profile] kimmercake.livejournal.com
ok, we had 14 codes - i want to save 2 for craftgrrl spinoff communities.

so far codes have gone to:

1) xkissandyellx@yahoo.com
2) bluefairystardust@yahoo.com
3) perplespider@yahoo.com

anonymous people - please tell me why you'd like a code and for the love of god provide me with your email address. YOU CANT GET A CODE WITHOUT IT!

[yes, i actually got people requesting codes supplying me with NO contact info]
[identity profile] run-ben-run.livejournal.com

feel free to mock my terrible sewing skills.

This is a project that I actually completed a few months back but just got a digital camera and can finally post it!

So, I went ahead and created a sister community for craftgrrl, for sales+trades. I hope this isn't stepping on anyone's toes..? I had a bunch of codes and figured why not :)

Its www.livejournal.com/users/craftgrrl_sale Kimmercake, obviously if you'd like to be a co-moderator I'm sure we'd all love it. If you are too busy, we'd all understand.

So, I'd love suggestions or anyone that would like to co-mod/do site design. Do you all think we should keep it looking like craftgrrl, or give it it's own funky appeal?

Looking forward to hearing from everyone!

Just a lil something that I made in a few mins, just to tide me over till I can do some real crafting this weekend. Made from stuff I had lying around

Huzzah! )
