Well some of you may think I'm a bit nutty for this post but...

I want to build a couch. Yes, you heard me right. I want to build a couch. Not your grandmother's floofy stinkpit of an old lady's couch. Something very modern and contemporary. my question is, do any of you have any experience with this?

i just used cardboard instead of wood so i could easily hang it up on my dorm room wall without putting holes in it.
i covered it with paper i made. making paper is joyous fun. :)

Woke up early this morning >_< and couldn't go back to sleep, so ended up making a ton of love / valentine's day related greeting cards. Instead of using glue this time, I used mounting tape so they'd pop out a little. There's a couple of squares and rectangles; two cards I used a hole punch and decided I didn't like it very much. I typed up phrases in Photoshop and printed them out and also editted a heart from the Webdings font so I have it in black and in a black-outline-only. Also used the heart from the Symbol font. Most of the phrases simply say "i © u" or "love"; but there's a few that say "[U] IS MY FAVORITE LETTER", "happy valentine's day", and a few that are one-of-a-kind that say "you melt my heart", "you are a sweetheart", "i love you", "you complete me", and "love is lovely, isn't it?" The cards vary in shape & size -- a few are plain 4.25" x 5.5", some are 4.25" squares, some are smaller squares that I didn't measure, and some small rectangles. Also there are a few non-fold notecard type things.

So i was looking on the internet for patterns to make a new shower curtain, and i found this, of all places, on Martha :)

It makes so much sense, bath sheets as a shower curtain. I like the way it looks, and it's super easy. Just thought i'd share.
Instructions are here

I'm leaving on a trip in about a week-that trip involves three airplane flights and a week in the car. I've got very limited space, but I'd like something crafty to bring along. I'm looking for something that is both limited in space, and airplane safe. Any suggestions? (If I can solve the scissor problem, I've got some needlework I can take along...)

i checked the memories and faq but couldn't find anything on this subject:

i recently bought a pleated skirt at a thrift store and i want to hem it but i'm concerned about ruining the pleats in the process.

are there any special precautions i should take when hemming a pleated skirt?

thanks!

okay i've got a slight problem.. my boyfriend split the back seam of a pair of shorts and wanted me to fix them.. i figured hey why not its on the seam should be easy to fix... i was so wrong lol... every time i start to sew my machine goes psycho... at first i thought it was the needle so i changed the needle to a new smaller needle (a 10 i think) and it was better but still not looking right... my tention is fine and my machine is clean...

so my question to you all is... is there something special ya have to do when sewing on nylon?

hi everybody! i'm lauren- and i can finally stand up with pride and say hi for real- instead of lurking like a creepy old man in a trenchcoat thanks to the code from [livejournal.com profile] kimmercake so hi!
but i do have an actual reason for posting... i have a dilemma. its a long story & it involves collaging so if you know anything about that- read on.

so i'm going to be a senior- and because i have made it through the last three years semi- intact as a reward we are allotted bigger lockers in the "senior locker room". so in celebration of our new status i decided it would be a good idea to make me & my friends collages for our lockers. so i've scanned all our good pictures and am putting them together on the computer so i can print them out ((i'm too lazy and cheap to use real pictures)) great. but now this is where you come in. what should i print them out on? regular printer paper will be too flimsy and plus i go to a an all girls catholic school where some of the girlies are petty and might write on the collage if its paper... or steal it if its made of something too nice. ((i'm really not kidding someone stole my cell while i was in GYM CLASS)) so... what should i do? besides putting it inside the lockers- because we all want them on the outside. so help! cuz if my locker is unappealing i wont go to it. and if i dont go to it i wont do my work. and if i dont do my work i'll never get into college and i'll end up 45 and jobless and living off my mother. and you dont want that do you?? so get to thinking! my future rests in your hands :)

Does anyone know how to distress jeans? Basically, I want to lighten the look of dark colored jeans. (no patches, stencils and glitter ideas thanks)
I read that we're supposed to sandpaper it? Anyone with personal experience, tips, instructions or pics? Very appreciated thanks!

Crazy!!! I was just about to post this when I saw the last post was someone making the same thing! I guess there's no need to repeat the site of the instructions. I added a twist but making mine reversible.

Any ideas for an creating an asian-style bedroom?

I'm thinking dragons (my chinese zodiac), oriental flowers, bamboo, etc decorations. Sewing is not a problem for me, but I have a limited budget. Thanks!

does anyone have any idea where i can find belt buckles, either online or in a store. i have looked everywere but am having no luck. the plain ones you can use to make your own belts, they are usually just metal rectangles, that you fold over the top half to tighten it.

Hey everyone, I'm Jessie, and I'm (obviously) a newbie...heh. I'm almost 15, and I'm from a little sucky suburb near Detroit. Uhh...I'm not good at introductions, but I just wanted to say hi and that this seems like such an awesome community! :D

My boyfriend bought me the Hello Kitty button maker for my birthday. I follow the pictures to perfectin (the text is in japanesse) and I have yet to produce a button. The top layers of the buttons are not working and ataching to the metal backs. What am I doing wrong?

Why hello chickies!

I looked through the memories, but I couldn't find anything on how to cut out the inside of a book, and make it into a stash book!

Has anyone done this? I was thinking of just cutting out a bit of cardboard for where I want to put the square, then cutting through pages at 10 at a time ot so -- just, it's a 800+ page book and that would take forever!

Helps, hints, better-ways, comments?

- J!

(also! I'm making my own glue, from flour + water. Any other homemade-glue-making hints?)
