so this is my first shrine. the pictures are horrible because i own a $20 digital camera with no flash at the moment. the colors weren't picked up at all.

materials used: an altoid tin, paper mache, glitter, acrylics, confetti, sculpey clay, finger nail polish, paper, and a candle.

i made it for my friend whose cat just died. its name was little cat, so it is called the little cat shrine. it has a candle on the inside, a booklet on the bottom, and a picture on the inside lid. the cool thing about this shrine is the press button on the top. sour altoid tins have a pop open button on the top. very neat stuff. i'm pretty happy with it since it is my first attempt.

pictures )

so that is it. it took me about 30minutes the first night (i had to let it dry over night) then about an hour fixing it up the next night.

ps. the booklet is actually red. that is how horrible my camera is. :( i really wish you could see the colors correctly on it because that is the prettiest part of the shrine.

i need help.
#1
i decided that i want to stick lots of pictures of my favorite bands on these. how should i stick them on? i want to be able to take the pictures off and put different ones on every few months. and what could i put over the pictures to make sure they dont get ruined? i dont mind to rip them off when i get tired of them, but what do i do so they dont fade/get dirty/peel off when they're on there?

#2
i bought this a while ago and i dont want to wear it.. im thinking of making a bag out of it. what could i use/sew it around to make it harder? i think i want it to be like a messenger bag.. or would it look better as a different kind of bag? any ideas?

thanks <3333

We had these pens, at work, the kind with the clear barrel, so that you can see how much ink is left in the pen-or whatever the purpose of that is-, (not the felt-tips..just 'regular'), and you could unscrew the tip and the end....well, to make a long story short: I was bored on night, and decorated ours, by drawing a picture and, after unscrewing the bottom of the pen, inserted it inside...everyone thought it was cute, and, if you wanted to get REALLY crafty, you could decorate them with glitter/stickers...whatever will fit.

Hey gals,
The boyfriend's birthday is coming up in a week, and since he's in love with Corvettes, I wanted to craft-up some matchbox / hot wheels cars for him. Question is, what the heck can I use to repaint them? I've seen little cans of hobby spray paint before, and I'm thinking that could be used, but I'm dumb with spray paint.
[identity profile] voidofher.livejournal.com
yay.
thanks to everyone who commented on this post... i couldnt sleep all night so around 6am i decided to make that bag. it isnt great, but this is my first time and i was tired, so im pretty proud of how it turned out.

here it is! )

thank you all for your help.
now im going to go work on making my stuff for school more interesting. :)

Would it be possible to turn this picture:

into a stencil-ready picture? I have no editing stuff on my computer... and its a laptop so I don't have anywhere to store a downloadable program. My best friend and I are huge DMB fans and I think she'd like it if I made her a shirt or something.

help!!

What's your experience with bead spinners? I want to make beaded lampshades, which requires getting a lot of beads onto wire. I've tried creating a homemade one using the instructions here. It works okay, but it will still take a really long time to get many yards of beads onto wire. I timed it and figure it takes about 7 minutes to string a foot. Is this normal? Is there something I can do to speed it up? Would a real bead spinner be a lot faster?

If you've used a real bead spinner, which one did you get? Do you like it? And how long does it take to string the beads?

Hi all
Super thanks to those who answered my questions abt a K or S costume [the boyfriend has decided on king or knight...cos he wants to wield a sword but that's besides the point heh] ! I've got more questions now.
Does anyone know where one can buy strapping in colors other than black or white or beige? [those are the only colors i can find here in australia but i know they have other colors cos back in Japan we have them in pink and all sorts of fancy colors]

Ooh and to make the post more craft related
Here's a tote bag i made yesterday

I bought the material from ikea and its lined with a white canvas drill , oh and it has a velcro closure. I also used the extra strong iron on interfacing. usually i use a strong or medium weight one but i thought a tote would need an extra strong one to keep its shape so i'm really happy with how it turned out.

Thanks in advance!

CD wallet

I already looked in FAQ and memories but the CD wallet part didn't really help. I have a general idea for it, but I'm not sure about the felt material scratching my CD's. I was thinking the part where the back of the CD envelope could be silk/satin and the front just felt/denim because that's just the top of the CD. I have no idea. Help me and thank ya much!

Shelves.

Does anybody have an idea for how to make some kind of shelving system for either folded fabric or books? At the moment, I have cardboard boxes draped with fabric as shelves, but they're starting to sag and the books are falling down. I don't have the extra cash to even go to Ikea right now, so it's time to get creative. Help?

I saw this a few days ago while I was shopping, and just couldn't get over how easy it would be to turn a sweatshirt into this. I know people have asked about what to do with old sweatshirts ... and I think this is a great idea.

totally stuck for ideas, which is rare but very frustrating! okay so i'm into fashion design/creation etc, and my friend gave me a denim skirt that she wanted me to make funky. its your average knee length dark denim skirt, with a frayed waistband. so far i've cut the bottom so its asymetrical, and now i'm stuck. i was going to sew a petticoat inside it so the petticoat shows, as it would have a straight hem, but i dont like that idea much any more. stencilling is an option but the denim is super dark and that might not work. if you have any ideas at all, please leave a comment :) i'd be forever grateful!!

i'm interested in making bath fizzies. all the recipes call for citric acid, and i thought i had read somewhere that you can use crushed vitamin c tablets. but then i read the ingredients on a bottle of vitamin c and it didn't contain any citric acid! so my question is, is it possible to use vitamin c? if not, where can i buy citric acid? thanks in advance

hello to my creative pals!! i may have posted in here a long time ago or not... i can't remember. anyhow i've really gotten into the purse making and i was wondering how i could get my purses to be stiffer instead of putting something in them and it sagging out of shape?!? i thought of sewing cardboard panels into the bottom and sides but that seemed kind of tacky? and then i investigated my store bought purses and found the edges were lined with a stiff wire kinda thing. any ideas on how to make them keep their shape AND/OR where to buy the stuff for it would be a godsent!! thanks so much!!

I was at the flea market awhile ago and this guy was making hemp necklaces. It is hard to describe what he made though...he had rocks on the hemp necklaces...like he had made a sac for them to hang in out of hemp, but it was hooked onto the necklace still. Make sense? Now I was wondering if anyone knew how to do this, or where I could find instructions on how to do this. I do not want to make them to sell...I just thought they would be cool to make for me and maybe my best friend. I would have bought them from him, but they were like $15/$20 and I make hemp stuff, so I know it is not that expensive. They were just like pretty rocks he picked up off of the ground too.

Oh and...I was crocheting the other day. I was doing the ribbed stitch...where you work in the back loop....because I wanted to make a bumpy washcloth. But then I decided I liked it so much that I was going to turn it into a bumpy/ribbed bag. So now I have a bag about the size of a washcloth....lol...I am not done with it yet. I promise to take pictures when I do. Just thought I would share. And forgive my lack of crocheting knowledge words...I am still fairly knew to this. My favorite stitch is the single. My next project is going to be a hat if I can find an easy enough pattern.

hey! well i just bought some new jeans from value city (old navy buyouts for $8) but the thing is the back pockets are plain. i like mine to have *some* kind of decoration on them. i've done rhinestones before, so i was wondering if you guys had any other suggestions for jazzing them up. or if you wanted to share some of your crafty jean pockets for inspiration, that'd be great. right now i'm drawing a blank on what to do. thanks for your help!

It's too small to make a stencil out of =/

I'm working on Halloween decor and I have this glass chip bowl I want to do a glow in the dark design on so it the design will glow in the dark. Spooky spooky, right? I went to my local Michael's and, of course as they hire the brain dead so they were of no help, so I figured I ask here ...

What type of glow in the dark paint should I use? The paints I found don't specifically say "for use on glass" but they also don't say "not for use on glass." They say things like "for use on fabrics, ceramics, etc, etc, or any craft surface." However, they have a whole selection of glass paint which doesn't seem to have a glow in the dark paint.

So, what can I use? Any help would be great.
