Thanks to everyone who gave me suggestions for the heart shaped eyelets. I went out today and got a few things so that I could make some magic with them.

I started out with a pack of Making Memories heart-shaped eyelets )

I decided I wanted to use black suede for my cuff. Michaels has "suede trim," which worked out perfectly for my wrist size. First, I folded it in half to make it half as wide as it originally was and also to add some strength to it. Then, with a sewing machine I sewed a straight line on each side of the soon to be cuff. Oh, and I used white thread to add a nice contrast.

I bought a leather puncher like someone suggested to me. I forget who it was, and I'm so tired that I'm having a lot of trouble trying to make sentences, so you know who you are and I really, really, REALLY appreciate your suggestion. Anyway, I spaced out the hearts the way I wanted them on the cuff and proceeded to punch holes in the suede. I used a block of wood to soften the blow on our basement floor, and then used a regular hammer to push the puncher through. (My gosh, is this making sense to anyone? I really should not be allowed to type when I'm this sleepy)

Next, I put the hearts in the holes and used the eyelet setter. This also involved a hammer. Hammers are fun.

I trimmed some of the extra length off and added black Velcro as a closure. I bought all of my supplies at Michaels. Here's the finished product.

two more )

Sorry the pictures are so bad. I came home for the weekend and forgot to bring my digital camera so I'm using my old crappy one. The first picture of the cuff laid out was scanned and I placed black paper behind it so you could see the holes in the eyelets.

That's it for now. I'm really excited about how this turned out. I bought a polka dot stencil on clearance and I'm hoping to make a black and white polka dotted suede cuff with red hearts!!!

Now I must give my crafty brain a rest. Bed!

Ok, I am looking to make a few dollars so I have decided to draw people. If you are interested in being drawn, or having a photo drawn (people preferably), Please contact me by reply to this post or e-mailing me at Kornfreak4343@yahoo.com I was loking in the price range for 25 dollars, nothing expersive. This rate is for a charcoal drawing on 14"X17" paper. the angel drawing is charcoal. If other mediums are desired (Like pencil, paint...etc...) we can work out sumthing but my most comfortable medium is charcoal. Some examples of my drawings )

The pink one is like a clutch with green lining and a green tie closure with hot pink tulle.
The other is my sisters old swimsuit stretched over a ring I found in a craft store. I forgot the website it's inspiration came from. It really holds key, chapstick, pen, mirror, lighter, cigarette case and I just hook the sunglasses off the edge.

So, here's the faint bag I tried posting a week ago...
This is all freehand (minus masking tape used on the skyline), done with fabric paint.
At first, I tried making a stencil of the guy on the cover of the Danse Macabre CD, about a month ago.
But since i'm not exactly fantastic with an exacto knife, I gave up and just free handed him on a red totebag.

My camera is terrible at taking pictures of this bag. I hardly got ONE good shot. But you can get the main idea of it.
Afterwords, I cut off the handles and sewed on a seperate black one, which was sewed on with ribbons. (you can sort of see the bows on the side. I did about 6 bows on the left...)

And here's a blurry closeup of his face and such.
It looks much more photorealistic in real life.
But does anyone have any idea of what to do in the empty corner, over on the left? Or should I just leave it?

Hi, I'm new around here, I just wanted to post my jeans, I've never customsed anything before. they're baggy skater jeans no one wears anymore and I just added some stars and some beaded star chains, I still want to add some rainbow ribbon onto the bottem of the legs and get a rainbow belt and add some smaller stars, so it sort of fades as it gets nearer the top. Anyways here they are ^___^

Jeans! Yay! :D )

I noticed that this community was for people who create their own works of art...(hence the name)...and I'm promoting my friend Melody's line of handbags. Each piece is handcrafted and personalized, then signed and shipped to the purchaser.

She's created evening bags in a very elegant, quiet style, as well as creating cigar box purses, as shown here:

If you'd like to see more of her work, please visit: http://www.meloyellow.com

Thanks alot!

Where would one buy beanbag filler?
I've looked through the memories and they didn't help much.
I've already called Jo-Ann Fabrics and Wal-Mart and both said they didn't sell it.

Any ideas?

I'm trying to make a gym bag for all my stinky clothes and whatnot. I ws wondering how I should make it. Like where would I find the clippy thing ofr a draw string bag or should it use buttons, a zipper, etc. I'm totally clueless :) Thankyous.

Oh yeah, the material I'm using is a t-shirt so what should I do to make it stronger?

this is probably a really, really lame question, but does anyone know where to find an easy tutorial for crocheting? i got a beginner's kit tonight and it confused me and my mother. the kit was supposed to be for kids, so both of us are feeling really stupid right now. please help? hah...

mmmmmmkay...before i go off to bed...

we have this perfectly ugly dining room suite...table, buffet, hutch (big arsed hutch). it's french provincial and it's off white...quite possibly the most *old lady* furniture i've ever slapped my lil ole eyes on.

it's laminated.

how does one go about painting laminated furniture? does one sand it somewhat, prime it and paint it? what about the tabletop? how does one paint it, and then not have it scratch and look worse than it did to begin with? it's kind of a fun set, if i could just figure out how to paint it, or had some idea as to what colors to use or *anything*...this mess has me stumped.

thanks much!

Go to your local Cigar Shop and ask nicely if you may have some cigar boxes. Let them know you plan to make purses out of them. Usually they will give them away for free. First you must decide on a theme...you can decoupage artwork onto it, Cover it with fabric, Cover it in flowers, feathers, paint it...really the possibilities are endless. Sand the box a bit to make it smooth. Do the interior lining first ... you can use a glue gun or staple gun to place your fabric the way you would like...get creative! you can also sew in a pocket on the lining before hand to up the value.

To do a Decopauge you can dilute some elmers glue with water in a cup or bowl. Place the picture on the cigar box in the desired position make sure it is even and all cuts are made before decopauge. I would suggest making sure if you are looking at the picture on the box the closure should be at the top. It is easier to open that way. Using a paint brush dip the brush in the glue and place one thin coat of the mixture onto the box... place your picture down evenly. Then continue to place an even coat of the mixture over the picture. let it dry for 5 hours just to be safe. Once it is dry use polyurethane to coat the picture... you may want to repeat this 1 to 2 more times for extra protection...make sure each coat is dry before adding another. Let dry overnight. Once the box is completely dry, You may attach handles... you can either buy handles from a website like ebay or www.umei.com. If you buy from these sites The handles are usually screw on. If you would like to make your own ... you can try many different ways...I use wire...then I string on semi precious beads...and screw eye hooks onto the inside of the top of the purse...and drill small holes big enough for the wire to fit through 1/2 inch outward of where the eyehooks are. String the beaded wire through the holes and tie it in a double knot around the eye hooks. Add a mirror to the interior...and tassles or any other finishing touches to make it unique... and there you go...your own cigar box handbag!

If you decide to use fabric You can just glue the fabric all around the corners with a hot glue gun ... or use a small staple gun and cover any rough edges with a matching ribbon or studs.

Ta-DA! Here is one I just finished today! That is a real Darmselfly (dragonfly)
