Can someone please tell me how to get started with crochet? All the sites so far are very helpful if you know where to start, but I'm baffled!

Can sombody tell me in laymans terms how to start with just a granny square? I really want to make one of those big blankets which are just great big granny squares.

Please help a poor confused soul....thankyou!

Hello again.
(are you sick of me yet?)

Anyone have any ideas on how to go about making a liscence plate into a CD wallet?

Also, I've heard about microwaving CD's and making them look cool that way, but I'm really afraid to try it for fear of setting something on fire. (I've had this perpetual fear of fires in microwaves since I set one with metallic crayons last year. It was a cool project, though. And it makes a good story. Don't do it.)

Does anyone know if you're allowed to bring a crochet hook on an airplane?

one black jerzees+one pink jerzees=me being quite pleased.

i just put one inside the other, gathered the shoulders and sides, and then stitched and cut away at the design in the middle.

I just joined this community and I have a project that I want to try. I have never tried to make anything before, so please bear with me and my silly questions! :)

I have a journal that I would like to decorate with an Audrey Hepburn postcard. I bought the journal from Barnes and Noble - it's a spiral-bound with a hard black cover. What kind of adhesive would you all recommend? Is there something I can put over the postcard to protect it and make it shiny? Also, do you all recommend buying journals and decorating those or would you rather make your own journals?

Thanks!

i'm not sure if this is appropriate for the community but i'm in a huge time crunch. i need to make a homecoming mum and a garter for my date and i have never done this before, nor do i have an old one to go by. i've searched a bit on the internet but i can't find any how-to sites. like i said i need to finish by the weekend because the rest of the week i'm super busy.
thanks for anyhelp!!

I made a halloween bag. Once again, it's all out of felt, except the lining.

when sewing say, tulle, to an elastic waistband...how should i go about it? i made myself a tutu a few months ago, but even though i used elastic, it wasn't very stretchy. what did i do wrong??

edit: ah, actually, should i have stretched the elastic before sewing anything to it?...

if you were a guy, what is a "special" gift that you would want your girlfriend to make you?

i looked through the memories, but i couldn't find anything i thought he would like. he's not the duct tape wallet type.

Which do you really think is easier: Crochet or Knitting?
My friends are split on the subject.

I discovered a website in Threads magazine a few weeks ago. It's called Mini Magic and they sell stuff for tiny work. Tiny notions, tiny ironing boards, tiny zippers, and nice trims. Haven't ordered from them yet (must get a job!!), but I hope someone finds this useful.

I'll post better pictures when my batteries for the digicam are done charging. Sorry for ick quality; I used my webcam. New hat and scarf set. Haven't named the set yet, but I'm thinking something or other with the word "cat" since my sister kept meowing when I tried on the hat (notice the pointy edges which seem similar to ears). Double-crochet stitches, but very thick and warm. Red Heart Light & Lofty in Antique Blue, size K hook.

does anyone know of a website that teaches left-handers to crochet? I took out a book from the library once, but since i'm a lefty and they only had righty diagrams, i had a lot of trouble.

my mother salvaged two record crates a couple of years ago from a church flea market. they're about 2.5'x1'x1' and still have the vintage "peaches records and tapes" stickers on them. right now they're plain, unfinished wood and i plan on at the very least sanding them down and polyurethaning (is that really even a word?) them to use as night stands. i'm trying to decide whether i'll white wash them as well or just seal them. any suggestions? i hope to post pictures eventually...

I got bored, and have been wanted to try this for awhile. So I bought some mutlicolored dice and drilled away. I kinda like it.

Avon is going to get in flat ornaments for xmas. I thought to buy a set and give one to each pen pal. Then I though...well I can make some that will be super cool. I did fimo with cookie cutters and ribbon in the past. Any other ideas? :)

Hey. I work at ac moore, and if you've been there you know they have a whole big section called "memories" which is basically paper and stickers and anything else for scrapbooking. i wasn't into this cutesy thing, but seeing all of this is making me wicked want to make one. ahh! I want to make a scrapbook. So, my question is, where do i start? what do i need to first get and do and stuff?
