so, i made a stencil from a photo of an old friend, then i made a shirt using the stencil. i think it turned out well, but i'm a bit uncomfortable wearing a picture of someone who doesn't know they are on my shirt.
i can't even tell if you would know it was her just from seeing the shit. i made a stencil from a 'my own private idaho' promo photo, and so far no one has been able to figure out who the photo is of. i've got a lot of "that looks really familiar." reactions, but that's it.

anyway, bad quality photos found here.

here's one of the boxes i've painted and am very happy with. it's not completely done (i'd like to add a finish to make it smooth and shiny, and some velvety cloth on the inside.) behind the cut are some pictures of my box. :-)

disclaimer.... my box contains bad words. please view with this understanding.

Does anyone know where I can buy patterns for halloween costumes? I'm thinking either Magenta from Rocky Horror, Alice in wonderland, or Sailor Jupiter. I cant find any patterns [or any costumes, at all, that aren't half-assed at least].

For all you ladies out there who have done glass etching can you help me out? For my dad's wedding I want to give him and his new wife wine glasses that are etched. What I was thinking was to us scrapbook stickers to do like a reverse kinda thing where the whole glass is etched, and just the letters are the regular glass. Will my plan work?

I just thought some of you might be interested... I only have a very few pictures from the Renegade Craft Fair that was in Chicago last weekend, but I figured I'd post them for anyone who couldn't make it, anyway.

it was a really pretty day... )

i am making marble magnets to sell as a fund raiser for the feminist collective. we want to print out pink ribbon icons to use as pictures because the money raised will go towards breast cancer research (october is breast cancer awareness month ladies!). we figured we would just print out the icons, but the bond 527 is making the ink run and smear. is there i different type of glue we should use? or maybe if we printed it out on glossy paper would that work? any advice would be appriciated.

Last year I ordered, and paid for, beads from [livejournal.com profile] brainpuberty/<[livejournal.com profile] antirealitygirl
I paid $10 for them. She got my payment and never sent the beads or a refund. She said I was harrassing her. I moved in January. I gave her from the end of October until January to send me something, and I got nothing. So I would not deal with her...just a warning to everyone. This is her site: http://www.magickcupboard.com
Has anyone ever filed mail fraud before? Did I wait too long?
She made the beads I am putting behind the cut.
I want to know if someone else can make me those beads and matching beads, big enough to go on hemp.....and some other beads for fairly cheap.
Gimmie a price.

Painting-related question to those of you that are both artsy as well as crafty..

I've been wanting to have a go at montage painting (is that what it's called? I'm not sure if there's a correct term) -- in which the canvas would be painted on as well as collaged on (ie: newspaper clippings). Now my question is this -- will the collaged items stick on because of the paint that is underneath/overlayed on it? Or is it best to use glue (and what kind, then -- would mod podge be okay?) the collaged pieces on and then paint over them?

And also -- would sealant be best on canvas paintings such as these? Or should I leave them as finished without it..

Firstly, a FANK UUUUU! I've just finished making the 'going away box' for my boyfriend, and the FAQs have been muchly helpful with ideas and projects for it. This community is great!

But, a question. Okay, I haven't searched high n low for it, but I don't know if Mod Podge is available in the UK. Does anyone know if it is, and where I can buy it (Hobbycraft or something)?. If we can't get it here (which would be just typical...), what are the alternatives available? I wondered about just using pva glue, but I'm sure it's not the same thing...

I looked through the FAQs and couldn't find it. I want to make my own postcards on the computer, print them out on regular computer paper and then paste it onto some cardboard medium. My problem is finding a good thickness/weight cardboard that will be as close to a normal postcard. Does anybody know what kind of cardboard I can use? I just would rather not spent a ton of money on "special" paper just to print out a few of my own postcards. And of anybody has some tips about this or had any experience making their own please share. =)

thank you very much!

Hey everyone. Question for you about homemade paper.

So, I like making paper...it's easy, and if anyone happened to have some sort of alternative method, all I do is get paper, rip it up into tiny squares, stuff it all in a blender and add water. After that I take a window screen, set it over the sink and pour the pulp. It all works out except for that the paper dries really, really lumpy, and I want it to write on. I was wondering if there was any way to flatten it out?

I collect many herbs and spices and have over fifty, most of which are in plastic baggies in a paper bag right now. It's so hard to remember what I have, or try to find it when I want to use it! Does anyone have suggestions for a way to display, store, and organize these? I have varying quantities, from 1 - 8 oz amounts.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Okay I HAVE looked through the memories so don't kill me!

I have transfer paper and a t-shirt....I have one I've already done and it cracks and the black bleeds blue-ish after washing...how do I avoid this?

Next....how to avoid the curse of the ugly shiny background?

Thanks...

Hey...anyone have any complaints, tips, general crabbery with/about the "As Seen On Tv" (yet sold in like ever effing store) brain child, "Easy Sew?"

My mom got me one as an early Halloween present...haha Yes, we do things like that, and I was wondering what kinds of things one would and would not do with it.

Also, if there is a comments section dedicated to this already, punch me in the neck. I asked for it.

Thanks, mamas!

How big should a bracelet for an 8 year old be? I have no idea... It's going to be on elastic cord so I can have a margin of error but does anyone know more or less how many inches it should be? She's pretty skinny if that helps.

And just for all the cautious people, I explained the choking hazards and all that to the mother but the girl is turning 8 so I doubt it's a problem. :P

Thanx!

I have two front windows that currently sport old sheets...not very attractive to say the least.

Last winter the windows were replaced and the landlord had mini blinds that were in horrible shape that had to go because they attached to the old windows (as featured in the picture).
