Anyone have a knitting pattern for those mittens you make for couples? So you can hold hands inside?

I mean like this. Anyone? Anyone?

In other news, the NON-holding hands mittens I'm making for my mom's birthday are coming along swimmingly. I'm so proud of myself! :D

hey everyone i just joined. i'm not too terribly crafty other than sewing, but i've been lurking around here, just reading posts for a while because i love all the projects and ideas you guys have.

anyway i have a question. i'd like to do some kind of project involving leaves because i love autumn, leaves, etc. i remember something i did in school when i was really young with leaves and wax paper or something. does anyone remember that? anyway, i was just trying to get some ideas. thanks.

This is my first craft/post. I want to find this manatee wallet by Paul Frank for PETA, but theres lots of stories of why I probably won't get it. After lots of emails and tears (namely because I Don't live in the states) I decided to make my own manatee wallet out of felt and left over embrodiery thred from my mom...
here are my picccys... )

this is crossposted cos I need as much help as I can get.
Here's the story, I recently bought some Patons Shetland Chunky in Harvest and started knitting a scarf with it.
By and by I notice that it's dying my hands red. This has never ever happened to me when knitting.
Now I'm not sure what to do.
Not only have I started this scarf over 4 times because it's for my boyfriend's father and I want it to be perfect, but now I'm worried it's going to dye his hands/face/clothes red!
The only thing I can think of to do is hand wash it when it's finished to try and get out the excess dye. But does anyone have a better idea? Is just hand washing it enough? Has this ever happened to anyone else before and if so what did you do?

earlier today someone asked about things to do with leaves. my fourth graders make this painting when we study abstraction, and i loved it so much i made a huge one for my study at home.

Hey! I posted this a while back on various DIY communities - and they referred me here. :) I am in need of a unique purse, and after looking around on eBay for a while, I decided I would see if someone would be interested in making one for me.
will you make this purse for me? )

Does anybody here do stained glass? I learned how in high school and would like to try it out again.
I was wondering if anybody knows of a good "starter" list of tools/materials i would need as a base.
Any info would be greatly appreciated :)

Is there any common household shtuff that would dissolve rust? We made a pot rack over the weekend, and now I need my drill to hang it, but my husband left my drill bits outside (!), and now they're all rusted. Any advice, other than to buy new drill bits?

Hi! I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. There are tons of great ideas on this site, so thanks for all of the inspiration.
Here are some of my reconstructions, and my tie wristbands.

This black and white Gap shirt had a plain neckline when I found it at Goodwill, and I wish I could take credit for the cool stripe pattern, but it already had that when I got my hands on it. I gave it a low v-neck and added the little white bow. Simple, but I think it's really cute.

Another picture )
A plain, high-waisted tennis skirt becomes adorable with the addition of blue tulle along the bottom and a sleepy/sad little blue elephant felt applique to cover up the ugly logo on the bottom. I love this skirt but I desperately need money, so I think I'm going to put it up on ebay.

The elephant is ready for her close-up )
Lastly, I made these tie wristbands out of vintage ties and high quality snaps. They, along with a bunch more, are for sale on ebay but according to the rules I'm not allowed to tell you where.

More tie wristbands )

does anyone happen to have, or know where i can get, a large witches broom? not one of those 99 pence kiddies ones...but a longer and possibly more sturdy one...

or, how would i go about making one...perhaps with a real sweeping brush handle...

Hey all. I've decided I'm going to make my own wedding invitations for my upcoming wedding and I've already got a few ideas but I'd like to get a few more before I buy all the stuff and start doing it. Does anyone have any websites or books they'd recommend looking at? Or any other information at all pertaining to home made wedding invitations? I did look through the FAQ.

Hey everyone.

Im working on a diy offline zine, and the upcoming issue has an artical about tshirt stenciling. I'd really like to include a free stencil, but Im not sure what would be appropriate.

Bands/movie stars seem to weird, because everyone has differant tastes. Anyone have ideas of something that'd make a good give-away stencil? I thought about maybe some stars & a moon...what do you guys think?

tell me what you think of the skirt in teh last picture.
please be truthful. you won't offend me. i made it, but it didn't come out quite the way i expected and i'm not sure if it looks ok or not.
just keep in mind that i'll be wearing it with the leggings, boots and a tight shirt.

if i were to make an odd shaped journal from scratch...let's say an oval shape...is there any way i could get each and every page the exact same size by myself so that the perimeter/edges are flush when it's closed?

Why no one told me before how much easier it is to knit with bamboo needles? and if they did, why didn't I listen?

my tension is much more even now, and I seem to suffer less arm and wrist ache than usual. Woohoo.

*toddles off to try and find a nice set of wood crochet hooks now*

so, awhile back i attempted to make a pair of pants, b/c i never have before & always need pants, it seems. well anyways i think of myself as a fairly good sewer, but i can't for the life of me figure out the crotch area!! i've done zippers & have no problem there, but i can't seem to make any idea out of the pattern i was using on how to sew up the crotch....

does anyone have any suggestions? it's prolly a very silly question!

Hello all!

I've been looking around for some kittie ear instructions, but I haven't really found anything all that great. Does anyone have any good suggestions? Something fairly simple that a new DIYer could do? :) Thank you muchly!
