I have 2 questions, both involving vinyl.

1) I bought this rad silver vinyl remnant (well, it's vinyl on one side and knit on the other) and I want to make a mini-skirt out of it. How do I sew it without fucking up my machine? Do I need a special needle? Do I use a special stitch? It's the last of the bolt of this cool silver stuff so I don't want to fuck up either it or my sewing machine.

2) I'm going to be Wonder Woman for Halloween. Every single picture of Woman Woman I've ever seen has her in red platform boots... but my platform boots are black!!! I want to make some bootcovers out of red vinyl so I don't hafta buy a new pair of boots. How easy would this be? Any tips, tricks, or pattern #s to suggest?

Thanks in advance.

I was a little appalled by the last post about the cut tag issue. Here's something that is a little more constructive. Help people learn to use a cut tag and you solve the problem.

I have removed the one post about LJ cutting because it started to get very unpleasant, and I felt that we should find a constructive way to work with this. I would like to instead do a recap.

I will adjust the community info to include directions to use an LJ cut if you are posting more than one picture, or the pictures are exceptionally large.

As has been mentioned Here is where you go to learn to do an LJ cut. As has already been mentioned it is a nice thing to do for people who have [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl on thier friends page.

This is a community for showing off your handiworks. Please do post pictures, and tell us how you did it. The best inspiration I get from crafting is from you guys!

I would also like to ask if we could keep it positive. I know not everyone likes every craft, or item shown, but each of these items represent someones hard work, and inspired ideas, and might be thier first steps towards something more intricate.

You guys are a great bunch!

HeLLooOoo.. I know Christmas is still relatively far off, but does anyone have any ideas for making Christmas ornaments?? Last year my tree looked like a tribute to Disney, due to all of the childhood ornaments I inherited from my mom when I moved out. I need help! :)

Did anyone else see themselves in the Venus Zine mini review thing of the Renegade Craft Fair?? I was just wondering who else might be in this community! I'm towards the bottom. :)

In response to the sickening "National Marriage Protection Week" (http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/10/20031003-12.html)which seems a lot more like national encorage discrimination week to me I've decided to hand make some post cards to send to the white house expressing my opinions of this 'lovely' event and I also plan on making some collages of pictures reprsenting as many different types (gays, straights, preps, goths, rich, poor, white, asain, old, young etc) of people as possible and then across the tops of these I'll paint lil phrases such as "What really matters is WHO you are not WHAT you are" and "Love is blind, it can not see religion, gender, race or wealth. All it can see is a human being for you to care about. If only we could all be so 'blind'" and "Our differences are what make a unique and wonderful." and so on. On the bottom of all of them I'm going to paint "oppose National Marriage Protection Week and the discrimination of minorities." And then I'm going ot post them all over town. I promiss I'll post pictures once it's all done.

Fabric...

Where do you get your fabrics at?

I want to do a pink guest bedroom, pastel pinks (think shabby chic), full of pillows I'll make of different patterns. I might throw in black as well.

I was at JoAnn Fabrics today and I think they had one pink fabric in the entire store, and it was a solid. The only thing I can think of at the moment is to order cool sheet sets I've seen and turn those into fabric for pillows. I'm just curious where you can get nice patterned fabric at. My mom got awesome fabrics from Ethan Allen for her living room, but that is way too pricey for me....

headboard

i'm thinking of making a custom headboard by covering a piece of MDF with some nice fabric, as on today's episode of "Home to Go"... what would be the best/easiest way of mounting the headboard to the wall without using any heavy-duty screws? also, i don't have a bed frame to attach it to, as all my bed is is a mattress that sits on top of a box-spring.

thanks!

Book Purse

I know this project has been posted a zillion times, but I was rather proud at my first attempt! It turned out great and the materials were less than $3.00, a local bookstore has a bin of 'trash' books that I dive through once a week.

(**Please note, I am NOT selling or advertising to you all, I just need advice!**)
My question is this: I am a photographer by trade and have been searching for something other than pictures to sell at craft fairs / festivals. I am thinking about making book purses. Have you seen any for sell and how much do they normally run? What would you pay for one? Input would be really appreciated! <3

More Pictures. )
