I didn't see this in the memories, so.. how the hell does one go about making puffed sleeves? I've decided to make my costume myself and I found a perfect example of how I want it to look here. Yeah I know I'm probably going to fail since I've never tried to do something like this AND I have to sew by hand. But I'm still gonna try. The apron part I can handle, but for the skirt - how would I make it flare out all around like that instead of just resting against my legs? Stupid question I know but I just can't figure it out, and as for the puffed sleeves all the online instructions I can find are confusing..

Always wanted to make a duct tape bag? Here are instructions on how to get a base and sides that aren't too thin.

My best friend's birthday is this coming Friday. I had most of her stuff already, but we were at a craft fair last weekend, and saw those boa type scarves, selling for $46. At the craft fair this weekend, the same lady had another booth, but had dropped the price to $39. Still outrageously priced, i thought.

So i made my own.  )

has anyone ever made anything for their fishes?

I have seen a lot of cool diy duct tape wallets on this community, so it never occured to me anyone wouldn't make them themselves. Then I went to This page on Thinkgeek where they are selling duct tape wallets for $19.99. So I guess all you duct tape wallet makers could be raking in the bucks.

I would like to direct your attention to a very cool community - [livejournal.com profile] beadswap. We've all done it - bought an entire package for one bead, or bought a ton of seed beads because you wanted to learn peyote and then changed your mind - here is your chance to trade those leftovers in for something you CAN use! Check it out; the more members that join, the more beads to be traded!

I should note that this is not my community, I'm just really excited about the possibilities!

Is it possible to bind pages of a book together using a sewing machine to sew them together? I've never done it, but my boyfriend asked if it was possible and I didn't know what to say.

If so, does it do any damaged to the sewing machine or it's needle?

This morning while I was making a mix tape, I whipped this up to go along with the tape for a friend. I wouldn't personally wear a wristband, but I do think its pretty cute! Crocheted with blue yarn, with a hand stitched ice cream cone made from felt

My boyfriend (of 2 years) is giving me the worst Christmas present ever: leaving for the Air Force. So, after Christmas, I won't see him again until, well... we don't know when.

I know there are lots of people here who are familiar with military life...

What do I do for him for Christmas that he can have with him after Basic Training, or that he can appreciate in the 3 weeks after Christmas before he leaves?

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions? Anyone?

Here is a Med Bag I just finished. It was inspired by someone (I don't remember who) posting a med purse here awhile ago. Hope whomever they are doesn't mind me stealing their idea.

Anyway, I don't know what kind of yarn it is, and its all single crochet with a size K hook.

I am making a purse from a pattern that calls for fusible web. I looked it up online and still am not sure if 1)it is necessary and 2) what its actual purpose is? It says to insert the fusible web along the raw edges of each strip, the strip is going to make like a bow around the outside of the bag, but later on the strip gets edgestitched on anyhow.. any suggestions?! :)

I have this shirt and I got some superglue on it. Is there anything I can use to get it off, without damaging the shirt? The shirt is 65% viscose/35% cotton. It is really thin.

Also, my friends and I are going to a Brad Paisley concert in less than 3 weeks and we are in the 6th row. We want to make tshirts so that he will see us. Any ideas? I found a picture of him fishing in country weekly, he looks about 5 I was thinking about maybe scanning it and using transfers, but we want cheap. Because we are poor college students. :)

There are 12 of us going so we figured if we all had the same shirt, we could bring attention to ourselves. FUN!
[identity profile] trueseven.livejournal.com
What material do you use to make the actual stencil?

Cardboard? Some kind of plastic? Help...
[identity profile] melena.livejournal.com

i made this shirt last night. the picture is the same picture of dr.phil i used in my icon, just made into a stencil in photoshop. i printed it out, taped it to a folder, and then cut around, with some nice pointers from my wonderful friend krys. she also lent me the fabric paint. it's on a boy's wifebeater. i honestly couldn't believe how easy this all was to do... i did it drunk, even all that intricate cutting!

p.s. i reallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly hate dr.phil. hence the leroy brown above his head. see the title of this entry for some lyrics from 'leroy brown'.

p.p.s.his head looks a lot better than that in real life, the tinfoil in the shirt is a little curved up under his head so it got distorted for the pic. it hasn't been 24 hours yet so i don't want to disturb it just to get a better picture.

Some of you had asked to see the costume on my niece when she received it. So here you go:

[identity profile] sharmelon.livejournal.com
Hoorah! I finished it! I made it a little smaller than it's supposed to be. My gauze didn't match up. I also didn't do the edging from the pattern because I didn't get it, lol. And I went about the dividers at random, so they're not exactly even, lol, but as long as my hooks fit. I folded it too close, so it doesn't close right either.. I sort of messed this project up. Ah well. It holds my hooks, and it has a button I took from my mom's sewing kit. It was the only big one. I'm thinking of crocheting a little watermelon with the excess yarn I have just to pretty it up a bit. And maybe add a handle or something to hold it by; we'll see.

I had so many ends sticking out that I had to weave in. I hate weaving in ends. If there's anything I hate more than the foundation row of a project; it's weaving in the ends..

snip snip (just one) )

So, I realized that my Fiskars paper cutter is a piece of crap. Ok, I figured it would be when I bought it..

Anyway!

I need a new paper cutter, a good one this time, I don't really care how much it is, just that it can fit 12x12 paper and it has a cutting and scoring blade.

Any suggestions?

What functional thing should I make my boyfriend for his birthday?

I just thought of someting else I was gonna ask before, but forgot. Someone gave me some white sculpey clay, a big box. Is there any way I can color it?

I'm making a quilt and I need moral support. The last time I made one I was about 13 and it was for some two inch tall teddy bears, so the quilt was 3"x5". The one I am working on now is for my daughter's birthday and is substantially larger. No big deal, except I have a weird sewing machine phobia right now and I have been sewing the whole thing by hand. Am I crazy, or am I ever gonna finish this thing??? (Hopefully before November eighth.)

I made heart shaped cookies for my bf and now here is the dilemma.

I need something cute to put then in. I don't have much, so I was wondering if you crafty gals and fellas knew of something i could put them in.

Good evening, all! I've been lurking here for a while and thought I'd ask this question here since everyone seems so helpful. I tried checking the 'crochet' section of the memories but didn't see what I was looking for, so I hope I'm not asking something that's been gone over a lot before, if so I apologize.

Anyway, my question is this: I've recently decided I want to learn how to crochet, and went out and got one of those sets with the needles and a book and all that. The problem is that I'm left-handed, and the illustrations are kind of confusing for me. Does anyone know of any good websites or books that have instructions/pictures directed toward lefties? Or even just some tips that might help. Thanks in advance!

Ok Im a photography dork. Ive taken loads of rolls of film, and I kept all the plastic canisters that the film comes in. Now what can I do with them, besides holding small items?

i'm so proud )

Hey everyone, im new. Just wanted to say hi and post a question.

My best friend's sweet 16 is coming up and I don't know what to give her. I'm going to knit her a scarf, make her a mix cd and give her a Johnny Depp movie(:-))
But I also wanted to write her a letter, like a full out letter, telling her how we'll always be friends yada yada yada. Only I don't know how I should do this? Should I buy a blank journal and decorate the cover then write it on the front page? how else could I creatively do this?

Thanks a bunch!

*Ash
