ok,
so my apartment's kitchen windows don't have any sort of blinds
and there's really no way i can think of to install them
now, this normally wouldn't be a problem but since i live by myself i frequently find myself wandering into the kitchen at 5 am to get a drink of water in my underwear.
i don't think that the people in the nursing home across from me would be too hapy if they woke up to that.

so.. i was watching some tv show about house restorations tonight
and saw a whole house with lace that was kind of attached to their windows, not as a curtain, but actually attached to the glass.
i was wondering if any of you had any idea about how i could make this happen?
i can't do anything permanent, becuase i'm renting and my landlord dosent like change.
so i need something that will stick it on, but be removable later on.

i remember hearing something about using egg whites, but i'de rather not do this since i'm worried it might get old and make the whole place smell..
would liquid starch work? or is it something about putting it onto porous surfaces like drywall that makes that happen?

any help would be great.
thanks.

I'd like to make one of these quilts but we don't have Reader's Digest in Sweden. Can anyone tell me the measurements of a Reader's Digest?

i've been meaning to make this post so please excuse me if i already have. i wasn't blessed with a good memory. :P

for halloween an organization at my school trick or treats for canned food for the local homeless shelter. I don't have time to make an intricate costume, or money to buy one. I need something creative and quick. I can probably only spend about an hour on it...
also, would it be insulting if i went as a homeless person and had a sign that said 'will trick or treat for food'?

need ideas desperately... HELP!

i was heading to bed last night after i made a post about a bag i made to go with my strawberry shortcake halloween costume, and was asked to reformat it.

i was too lazy and just wanted to head to bed so i got rid of the costume picture... which people really wanted to see.

im at work now so i can waste some time :P

*this* is the strawberry shortcake costume

i didnt make it but a crafty girl did.

i made a strawberry bag to go with it!

that can be found in the previous post HERE

I'm posting this in every applicable place. Sorry for the repetition.

I would like to know perspectives on spinning yarn, crochet and the related sales.

If you sell yarn you've hand spun do you make a profit for the time invested, supplies etc? If so do you buy in bulk & do you dye your own fiber?

If you crochet/knit something with the yarn to sell do you get paid for your time or just make a bit more than the supplies?

For those who sell crochet, knitting or hand spun yarn where do you sell it? Ebay? Locally? Fairs? Website? Other? All of these above?

Just doing some research and need info that's hard to find!
Thank you for any help you can offer!
Take care,
Sammy

Okay... I am super duper sorry about having to post and ask about this but I could not find anything in the memories section. A few months ago I remember someone posting about making jewelery out of soda tabs. Would anyone happen to know about this??? I have saved up so many soda tabs and now they are just sitting around and being neglected. If you have any info on this subject could you please comment?!?!

Thanks much!!!

Of good tips for every craft on the face of the planet, well almost. I suggest adding it to the memories, if that is possible?

Follow me.

Hopefully, my html code tag skills aren't shabby and the link gets messed up.

I'm handsewing a book purse right now and making a sopranos stenciled shirt.

hello =) In my English class we can basically do anything for extra credit, and my teacher is a big shakespeare fan so i was wondering if anyone had any ideas about crafty things i can do/make about shakespeare. I was thinking of a collage of some sort but someone already did that, but besides that i dont have any other ideas. If anyone could give me ideas that would be great =) thanks =)

I'm sure this has been asked before, but does anyone know of someplace online where I can order blank t-shirts and hoodies and such that are fairly good quality? I hate the Hanes/Fruit of the Loom/etc. shirts from Wal*Mart, they're completely see-through.

as per a request here are some closer photos of my recent "Herb sign". the sign is for hanging and drying herbs and has 4 small hooks under each painted herb bouquet. It is approximatly 16 1/2" at it's longest(end points) and 3 1/4" high and hangs with raffia rope. painted with simple craft paints in various shades of green(herbs), purple(flowers) and blue(ribbon). I base coated it entirely in white first and then sanded the edges to give it a worn look. there is no top coat on this project as it will not hang in the weather.

Sheesh. I promise, I really tried to find the ex-pants question, because I saw something today that would be perfect. Oh well, you know who you are, the person who wanted ideas for her dead jeans.

In Long's Drugs today I saw a little notebook, maybe 4" x 5", that was covered in denim. I think there were typical denim orange-thread seams around the top and bottom. On the cover, there was a little jeans pocket sewed on, with the double-lined orange-thread seams. All over the book there were flower-shaped buttons (or flower-shaped somethings) sewn on. It was adorable! If I'm not describing it well, it looked like the little notebook was wearing its own jean jacket.

Good luck!

i did something really stupid lastnight. ive just started using iron on transfers and so far so good, until lastnight. i must have been half asleep or just brain dead, i accidentally put the transfer on facing up-hehe i even looked at it and i was like...oh man this is going to look so great, im so excited!! it was a radiohead stencil so i was hoping to make my boyfriend all jealous like, cause hes a big fan. anyways, so i went to iron it on and of course it just melted away and got black all over my iron and my sweater :( is there any way to get this awful stuff off? im such a doofus. it seems all my posts are about me screwing up some craft or making a mess....*sigh*

thanks girls!

So... two questions. Both related to a Halloween costume.

I'm doing Freddy Krueger for someone and I need to know how to put it all together. We've got the hat, and the tell-tale grey and red striped sweater. But what we don't have, I have to make.

1) Claws. Freddy just wouldn't be Freddy without his big scary claws. Basically I'm going to buy some gloves and shove *something* through them to look like claws. BUT, we're going to a dance party and I'm sure the club will be extra-crowded so I don't want anyone to get stabbed. Metal is out. I was thinking some sort of plastic that I could spray-paint a crome color. Does anybody know what a good kind would be to use? Something that would be stiff but not too hard to cut into scary-looking claw shapes?

2) Scary Freddy Face. Freddy also wouldn't be Freddy without his messed-up face. I was thinking liquid latex would be the best way to go about this one. I *was* thikning that, but after making several calls there are NO places where I live that sell red or nude liquid latex. They're all out of stock for Halloween. sooooo... Does anyone have any other ideas for creating that scary burn-effect?

My main problem is... this all has to be done by a party TOMORROW. He just randomly decided to be Freddy Krueger TODAY.

Blah.

Also... I've attached a few pictures of Freddy.

Cut, because, well, he's real scary )

Since we're talking about wigs anyways...I was just wondering if anyone's had luck making a regular wig look...crazy. I know what it looks like when you dont take care of it (ie: throw it in a box with other costume stuff) but...I've taken care of mine. Its long with bangs, and I'm planning on using hairspray and gel and scissors to get it to be ratty and sticky-outty. Any stories, comments, suggestions? (If you must know, I'm being Edward Scissorhands for Halloween...!! No copying ideas now kids ;c ) )
