i'm dressing as a cat for Halloween...and part of my costume is a lng black coat/cardigan thing. i've have fake fur fabric in white and have put some on the sleeves. i was going to put some on the collar too, but there's already some shorter black fur on it. i don't want to take it off, as i may wear this after Halloween. so what do you think i should do? shall i put some around the bottom? but it might get dirty. and what about the front?
help!

I'm going to visit my boyfriend for a week in November. We very rarely get to see each other. You all know how you love the smell of your bf/gf's clothes and most of you girls probably have a few of your guys shirt that smells just like him. And I know I'll be leaving with at least one of his shirts, but I know it'll end up being washed a few times before I see him again and it will loose his smell. Plus it's not like he can wear one of my shirts so I want to give him something to remember my scent.

So I decided to use the idea that I know people have used for babies when they go to somewhere they've never been and even for some people's pets when they have to leave them in a new place. So the idea for the whole week or so before I go up to his place to sleep with one of my son's old baby blankets. Wash it... put it in my dresser... keep it close to me when i have my body spray/deodorent on... clean hair... you know... normal things that will make it smell like me.

I want to know if any of you have another way of doing this (without the baby blanket). It has to be something small and easy to keep near me so it will have my scent. And he already said "no stuffed animals". Something creative that I could do to the blanket. I'm just not sure right now.

I think I might put "A week in November" on the blanket and the day we got together and Jesika Loves Adam.

Any of you have any other/better ideas?

Fake blood

Hey hey...
I've got a halloween party coming up and I need some fake blood, but nowhere near me sells it and I don't have time during the week to go out of town to get some.
Is there any way I can create a make-shift fake blood? Or anything that looks like blood that I can use? :\
Thanks...

Does anyone have any ideas as to what to do with a wedding dress AFTER the wedding? I don't want to cut/alter it, I just need a way to keep it from going in a box never to be seen again.. my dress is way to beautiful to keep it in storage!

I have an old Wizard Citation sewing machine that I got a an antique store for 8 dollars. It weighs a ton. Ha. I have yet to use it. It didn't come with a booklet or anything and it's very different from my mothers much newer sewing machine. I was wondering if any of you knew anything about this type of machine.

This may not be crafty, but you girls (and guys) are pretty clever...

My boyfriend and his roomies are planning a party in a few weeks and they need to put something outside to keep all the "honnies" warm. They really don't want to go the hobo-by-the-train-tracks route and use big metal trash cans, so do you have any suggestions? They want to have two, one on each side of their picnic table so the heat would be well distributed in their back patio.

Hi Crafy guys and gals!!

I have been making ornaments for these 3 kids I love every year for the past few years.

Year 1= Clear glass balls that i painted from the inside
Year 2= Mini sock monkeys, sewn and stuffed and with wire in their arms and legs o they could be bendy
Year 3= Fimo angels

Any ideas for this year? I've done clay, fabric and paint.
I was thinking of beading something basic like a star or something. The oldest kid is in highschool now, and the youngest is in 5th or 6th grade...I appreciate any suggestions! I am currently leaning towards beading but can be persuaded in any direction!

Thanks a million! :^)

i live in seattle, where it rains a lot. in the winter when it gets chilly, my wool gloves get soggy and uncomfortable.

i've decided to try and make some water-proof mittens to wear over my wool gloves and wanted to get some feedback before i start.

i'm thinking of finding a nice, cheery-patterned oil cloth fabric. do you think that would be practical, or can you suggest something else? i won't really need a lining since i'll wear them over other gloves, but on days when it's not too chilly i might wear them alone so i might consider some flannel or something.

does anyone know of a sewed mitten pattern? i'm expecting to have to wing it, but i'll take any resources i can get ^_^

i'll probably try to make a water-proof purse or tote bag to match, since my purse also gets soggy in the rain, but i've done bags before and don't think i'll need help with that . . .

What are some craft items or accessories that you guys swear by? Certain brands, certain styles?

I know personally, some items that I always have to have in stock are:

- ModPodge.. Ya, you're supposed to be able to mix glue and water or whatever, but ModPodge is cheap, easy, and works on so many things. I want to marry ModPodge.
- Febreze. My parents both smoke, and this takes the smoke smell out of whatever I was working on.

Hrm.. that was only 2. I know there's more.

What about you? Certain brand of paint that's really good? Yarn? Moulding clay?

Also, I have a craft fair coming up, and I was wondering what are some good cheap ways to display our items? Thx guys!

i just wanted to say, that i finally bought a bottle of mod podge, and it's awesome. i can't believe that i had waited so long to buy a bottle. i'm sure most of you know this, but i'm just so excited that i can use it for everything! it's a great sealer and i just put this cute little bike sticker on a box i made, and it looks awesome. yay!

Here is the scenario: You're home, bored out of your mind. None of your craft items are here, since you let a friend borrow them all. All you have are some empty jars and a big tub o' Mod Podge and whatever else you find around the house in the yard. You are desperate to craft something.... what do you do?

Anyone know of a good *cheap* supplier for those hardbound blank sketchbooks? I'm looking for something small, maybe 4"x6" or 3"x4". I have some designs rattling around in my head for beaded book covers, but I'd like to pay as little as possible for the books themselves.

soo... in the beginning of the summer i sundried several oranges (i cut them into slices first...). i was going to make a dress out of them for my fashion school portfolio, but i never ended up doing it. maybe i'll do it someday, but anyhow.

so i was wondering, what else could i do with them? i have a whole bag of them.... i wouldn't be into making a wreath or anything of that nature... any suggestions?
[identity profile] vintage-piranha.livejournal.com
okay and i forgot to ask this too in my last post, so i'll just make a new post:

i have no idea what to be for halloween... i do, however, own a blue wig that's cut into a chin length bob with bangs... i don't have any idea what i could be with it on. besides a girl with a blue bob. im having such difficulty this year coming up with a costume!

thanks for any suggestions to either of my questions--- <3

my friend is getting a booth at the coming up fall craft show.

thus far, she's only selling bath salts, that i'm nervous to use because she used dollar store oils in them and they just don't look right and, err, she's kind of.. clueless when it comes to.. much of anything.

she's asked me to make some things and sell them.

i'm a good person, i really am.
but i don't want to sell things that i've made at an unprofessional looking booth.
it would be embarassing.

so what kind of suggestions can i give her to make a nice looking booth?
and an attractive way to dish out the salts?

i suggested to her that she put salts in matching bowls, then put them in those small paper bags that have the twisty ties attached to them, if you know what i'm talking about?

and if people want a large portion, mason jars with cute fabric on top, tied with ribbon or something.

what do you think?

has anyone done this?

what should i make and sell?

any other suggestions?? thank you in advance.

I have some really cute iron ons, which I ironed on some stretchable tee shirts. However, because there were some small thin parts, it looks like it is coming off.

Does anyone know how I can glue them back?
And with what type of glue?

Ps: You grrls do great work! This procrastinator is soo inspired!

A friend of mine is having a Coming Out wine party tomorrow night. Even though he is out to most everyone, this is a big deal to him as it is his official night. I want to make a little something for him, but nothing too over the top because he is a casual friend, but someone I do care about. We are college age, his interests are in French and History, but I don't know what to make for him. Any suggestions?

Can you get acrylic sheets at a hardware store and if you can will they/can they cut it for you?

Ok. I am looking to make a personalized card with one of those voice recording devices on the inside. I looked online and only found this thing called a "Voice Pad" but it appears that they are available online shipped from the UK only.

I am just wondering if anyone knows if Michaels or another crafting store would sell those voice recording devices or something similar. I am looking for one that you press the button on to hear the message OR one that plays when you open the card. Either way. However, the less expensive - the better. I wouldn't really want to spend more than like $4 on one if I didn't have to.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!

xoxo Tori

Is there a way (ironing, perhaps?) to remove creases from folded paper? The creases are pretty deep, but even softening them would be great. Its for an invitation I'd like to put in my scrapbook.

This is in regards to This post about searching the site.

I unclicked the option that stops spiders from search sites, like Google, from indexing us. That's why Google doesn't have us.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] cordelia_sue and her 'super geek' (Thank you Super Geek!!!) we now have a google search box on the user info page that specifically searches [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl via Google. It won't turn anything up now, but when google's spiders index us it will turn up some results. If I remember, the last sites I submitted to google took around a month or so to come up, but it's hard to guess.

I am just hoping that helps us to find more stuff in the community, easier.

I would also like to thank [livejournal.com profile] justamy for the suggestion, so we all got this taken care of.

I'm one of those people who buys nail polish when it's on sale even though I never paint my nails. I was bored and didn't have a lot to play with so I made this:

Nail polish, a picture of the B52's clipped from RS, a little construction paper, and some glitter mod podge. I decorated my checkbook box because I have a tendency to lose it, I figured it would be hard to lose something sparkly!

I need help...
I have a 12 month old daughter, and I think we're gonna dress her as a black cat for Halloween this year (it's not too complicated and not too uncomfortable for her).
How can I make the ears and the tail? If I can't figure out how to do it myself, I'll have to find out if there are any costume shops in the area.
Thanks in advance.

So... I've gotten back into the habit of reading. I'm not sure if it's because of the cooler weather or the fact that I just need to get off of the computer sometimes. But in any case, I'd like a book weight - some way to hold open books while I either read or take notes from them. Usually text books stay open, but other books just won't lay flat.

Does anyone have any really good solutions to keep hard backs (or paperbacks for that matter) open without completely ruining them?

I considered trying to construct one of those leather types you see sold in book stores... with like felt and rocks. But I want something that looks half decent. :o)
