This isn't specifically a craft question, but figured you all might have the answer.

My mom has a fountain (the decorative kind) that keeps getting gunked up so that the pump stops working. She cleans it out, but a day later it gunks up again. Does anyone know of a household-type something that might clean it out good? (i think she's tried vinegar, but not sure)

Thanks in advance!

Sorry that this is probably a really basic question, but I looked in the memories and didn't notice anything.

I just got a Brother sewing machine for my birthday yesterday and have been following the directions this morning trying to figure it out on my own, as no one in my family has ever sewed. I have the bobbin threaded, but the next steps in the manual go over upper threading and lower threading. It doesn't explain the difference, though (if there is one), or which should be used for what projects. Could anyone explain this to me?

just thought that some of you craft grrls (and guys) out there would like to see this:

they made a cd holder out of old records!
i would love to try and make that.

hello everyone!

does anyone know where to find canvasbags with lots of pockets on the outside? like an "army-kind-of-bag"? but not army, if you know what i mean. :-)

i am looking for a bag just like that, made of either canvas or denim.

would appreciate if you could give me a few suggestions on webshops as i don't live in the us and therefore can't shop in those stores...

thank you very mucho! ;)

ps. is there some sort of community at LJ into t-shirtprinting and "t-shirt-make-over:ing"?
[identity profile] devocate.livejournal.com
I've been looking at this community for a while and i'm lovin' what i see! I've already swiped the marble magnet/pushpin idea (mostly the pushpin one...more on that later). Anyway, i've made a few things in the past week, thanks to Thanksgiving break, and i wanted to share in hopes of some constructive criticism/tips/fun!

Does anyone else like to attend craft fairs to get ideas of things to make? I do. :)

Are there any LJ communities where you can advertise or find advertisements for craft fairs?
[identity profile] meloyellowd.livejournal.com
ok this is not necessarily a craft question...ok well to be completely honest... it has nothing to do with crafts... but I know you girls know alot about this so ... here goes

I remember alot of posts about photo hosting but I can't remember names... so please help me out...what are the best free photo hosting sites?

thanks in advance

Hey guys,
I checked the Memories section, but didn't find anything so I'm really sorry if I missed something.
But.. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I could do with some 2 liter (and larger) wine jugs? I was thinking something other than etching .. Possible christmas gifts? ..I don't know.
Please help!
Thank you, craftaholics:)

This person on [livejournal.com profile] diyculture is selling these vinyl journals..

I don't have the money to spend $17.50 on one of hers, but I do have all of these old albums laying around. The thing is, since she is selling them she doesn't want to give up the secret of how she gets such a nice cut through the records.

Does anyone around here know how to get a nice clean cut like that through some vinyl?
Is there a more creative way to bind something like that or is there something else that would work?

Just a head's up to the US craftgrrls - there's 50% off coupons for Joann's in the Thanksgiving editions of your local newspaper. I'm going to assume that this is a national promotion and anyone who gets a major newspaper will get the coupon.

I just scored the $120 Xyron 900 machine for $60! Whoo! And I have another 50% off coupon that's good tomorrow, so I'm going back for the magnet/laminate cartridge.

Since I didn't get much of a response when I inquired about xyron machines before, I'll be posting a bit of a review once I've gotten some more cartridges and have done some experimenting. The machine comes with the one-sided adhesive, but I don't have many ideas for that, besides stickers, and I'm not really that interested in making stickers right now.

hey kids,

just in case you might be interested,
we've created an LJ community for the Crooked Seams Crafting and DIY Society -- the yahoo format is just a little weird, and this is easier. yeah, we figure this out after six months... heh.
if you like to make stuff, can't make meetings often, or just want to keep up with our anarchista chic attitude, feel free to join. all forms of DIY welcome.
it's here: [livejournal.com profile] co_crafty this is a local-type society -- for Colorado people, and to support our weekly meetings. however, anyone who wants to keep up with what we're up to is more than welcome!
please read the FAQ and then join, join, JOIN!

I know everyone is probably starting to get crafty and think about making things for the holidays(I made sponge balls last night and decorated candleholders for my mom, but have no camera!), but I just wanted to remind everyone, especially if you have kids or pets, that the strings of christmas lights have lead in them. I was recently made aware of this, but I guess there's now a warning on the new packages.
Just something to keep in mind when making stuff and decorating!
[identity profile] czarina69.livejournal.com
Okay, I've been thinking about what I could do with the little domed breath-mint tins, and I came up with a great holiday idea! Spray paint the tin black, and paint in white on the top, "lump of coal". Then fill with marble magnets, or something else of your choice. Wish I'd kept several of these!

Hey!
i know there has been a lot of talk about homemade lipbalm in the past, and i have a couple questions, which ic ouldn't find satisfactory answers to in the memories.

What is the best oil to use?
What is the best scent(in your opinion)? And i know someone already asked htis, but can i use the scented things of oil that they sell at the dollar store in the candle aisle? I didn't see a very definite answer.

Thanks!

Im so happy to find this community! I'm really into DIY. Crafts and clothes both. Now its time for me to use a nifty LJ cut and show you a few of the things I have uploaded. I'll start with my room crafts.

I bought a new bed set (hello kitty) and it inspired me to make billions of crafts to match it. Check it out!

I just made some "favor coins" cor my boyfriend (stocking stuffer) out of shrinkey dinks. I used colorful sharpies on them and they worked great.

I searched the memories for ideas on what else to make but didn't see anything.

So far I've made the favor coins, a tag for my pooch, and a little "paper" doll with real paper clothes to put on her. I'm not sure who to give that one too.

What have you all made with your dinks?

WEEEOOOO!

Today I worked on my nightstand table. It is actually a old cheap coffee table I had; I'm sure you all know the type. Kind of like this.
pic )
Only mine was made of particle board and no fancy legs. Anyway, today I sanded it down a little, primed it, painted it and tried a little decoupage. The result?

DADADADAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

My Pin Up Girl night stand

YEA Me!!!!!! Please excuse the glare and plastic on the floor. The only thing I have left to do to it is the lacquer. It was a lot of fun, my first venture into decoupage .. and it was a pretty good journey. :-)

i am taking a course in ceramics and have done so for a few years now. this term i made a smart pot for the water when using watercolours.

it's a "2-compartment"-pot. one of the compartments is used to clean the brushes from watercolour, no matter what the colour is, the other one is constantly containing its fresh water as you only use that for the less "dirty" brush.
then i made some "tracks" for the brushes to be placed in when you don't use them.

simple to make and a must-have for watercolorists! ;-)

Hey there! I just joined this community :)

Well, I love making crafts! I have a very unique style and like many things. Recently I made a really awesome bulletin board (if interested I could post how I made it.) and also this really cool punkish looking X. I was curious if anyone had any vintage, rocker, punk type of crafts. Anything really. Jewelry, furniture, anything. Let me know :) Thanks.

♥ Jessica

P.S. I don't have a whole lot to spend for the holiday season and I was wondering if anyone had some great gift ideas! Thanks :)
