Simple question: I need to mail chocolate chip cookies and chocolate spoons. How long do they keep? This might not seem crafty but everyone seems to be making these thing so maybe you guys would know :).

So, after struggling what to do with my 60"x36" pieces of fleece, I ended up making some "no sew pillows."

They're just like the no sew fleece blankets except that their measurements are 30"x30" and the fringes that you cut on the sides to sew tie together are a half an inch rather than a full inch wide.

ok ladies, i had a brilliant idea today

my boyfriend is in total love with the lord of the rings, so i decided to make him a fellowship pin out of PMC. however, i have never done enamelwork before, nor do i have access to the materials for it anyway.

any suggestions on adding the green to the leaf so it doesnt look supa cheese? im gonna be doing in out of silver so i dont want to make it look bad with like fabric paint or anytihg that would peel off anywho...

thanks :) this will be my first tiem with PMC as well, so any tips there would be great, i'm doing a test run with sculpy first to get my techniqes down

I made more stuff out of felt!

Coasters : I think I will give these to my friend who owns a little rabbit called Hollie. She's thinking of getting another rabbit so this pair of coasters would be perfect for her.

Passport Holder : I am obviously over-excited about my imminent trip to Sydney ... and it shows in the sloppy blanket stitching! I was so impatient that the stitches came out uneven. Well, better luck next time.

my first stabs at knitting stuff.

i really need to get a less expensive yarn habit. hehe. made with two yarns - the lovely & gorgeous noro (45% silk/45% kid mohair/10% lamb's wool) and the really really fun tecno hair (100% polyamid nylon).

+ a few more things. )

i am definitely still mainly a crocheter.. but trying to knit was a bit of fun.

next things - use up the yarn i got on my yarn shop spree and attempt to felt something.

will 80% wool/20% nylon yarn felt or no such luck??

Cufflinks?

I've been selling some of my beaded jewelry here at work this week, and it's been a real success, so I'm feeling quite validated. Yay! :) Hubby asked me to set him up with some items to bring into work, and so he has some today. He just IM'd me asking if I make cufflinks, as one of his co-workers was wondering. I said that I haven't, but I'm sure that I could.

Anyone have experience doing this? Any suggestions? My Google search thus far has only yielded retailers of cufflinks.

Thanks! :)

A while back someone asked for some creative ways to wrap CDs as a gift. Yeah, I know what you are thinking, and normally I would go back in the memories and post it there, but I figured a lot of people are probably asking the same question, and would find this useful. Anyway, here's the link (good old Martha):

@#(*$_)*@!!! I'm starting to think it would be easier just to bake cookies or BUY bath bombs. How hard can it be to find these ingredients? ARGH! ROSEWATER. How hard can it be to find rosewater? Can I just purchase rose scented essential oil & mix it w/water?

Ooops... thought I was posting to the bitchywhiney community.

so i've been digging around the internet for some, and brands i found were:
pebeo 150 or 160, found on www.dickblick.com. there's a line that you paint on, and a line of the same in marker form. you just bake them at 300* for 30 minutes. it's safe for glass, porcelain, and metal, so long as you can heat it. they have a special line for glass, also.
Vitrea glass paints.after reading more closely, they're the pebeo brand. they also have to bake about 40 minutes. (project here: http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/dc_furniture_other/article/0,,HGTV_3445_1396470,00.html )
also, i found some stuff called Klenk's Epoxy that's supposed to be water and bacteria-proof and comes in 4 colors, but i haven't looked into it to much yet.
i hope that helps some other people who were also looking for food safe paints.

also, while i was looking, i saw that on the carol duvall show they used sculpey to make a faux glass plate, but didn't mention if that was food safe or not. i thought scupley was not food safe?

[edit]and, just in case someone would want to know, there's a brand of wood varnish that is food safe at www.calistawood.com

Does anyone have any ideas on how you would make a 45Rpm (7")
Record Case? (you know that holds a bunch and has a handle on the top)

I'm concerned that for it to be strong enough it would have to be wood.

i love this community...

yesterday (after my last final!) i was browsing through the urban outfitters holiday 03 issue, and i found a felt scarf that fastened beneath a felt rosette. and then i started wondering...since it's possible to crochet a rosette, shouldn't it also be possible to knit one? i searched for instructions online and couldn't seem to find anything.

does anyone have a pattern for knitting a rosette? or, if not, can anyone guide me in making a felt one? it would beautify my holiday knitting projects even more...

i pray for peace for any students finishing up the semester lately...thank you for sharing your craftiness, lovely ladies.

edit!: just randomly browsing knitty for holiday projects, i totally found knit rosette patterns. they are at the bottom of this page. !!

The display stuff I'd ordered still hasn't come yet (I ordered it 2 weeks ago), and the big fairs are tomorrow and Sat.

I will have to keep from freaking out, and just get creative. Anyone have any ideas as far as how to display my stuff? For the last one, we had everything out on the table; it was bad because it was hard to even find room to put things out. I need an earring stand and some standing things to put necklaces on and things like that...but I have to make them somehow, since buying stuff I'm going to get in the mail is not an option.

ok, new AOL cd craft. if you are tiling your bathroom walls, backslash to your kitchen, or even some people do table/counter tops, here you go.

some people have an odd colored tile placed in their project. or a couple of tiles with pretty designs painted on them. why not just fill a space full of grout that would be the size of a tile and put an AOL CD in there. reflect light and look all modern-like too.

i just thought it would look cute.

or not, whatever

just incase any of you never thought of it...

im making a kind of friendship book for my friend for christmas. i searched online and found a whole bunch of awesome quotes and poems. i guess you could call it a homemade chicken soup for the soul book. he can look at it when hes sad and know he has a friend that cares enough to give him this positive spirit-lifting thing. i think its a great idea =)

i used some leftover pretty printing paper that i bought years ago. im going to punch three holes on the side and use ribbon to hold it all together.

heres a picture of a quote i used - kinda bad quality. )

i really want to make these for my friend since she flipped over felt sushi fridge magnets:
sushi candles

but have NEVER done any sort of candlemaking before. do i just buy a bunch of different colours of beeswax and roll a wick into them or is it more complicated?

thanks

Hello All! I've been following the community for quite some time. I have an extreme respect for you all, and sometimes am in awe of the things created here.

I had the idea of making huge oversized pillows for my little cousins (ages 5, 4, and 1) for Christmas. The thing is I'm not really sure how to go about it. Is it easier (or even cheaper) to buy the pillow already made and then make new covers for them? I want them to be able to be washable and durable because of their ages.

Thank you for any ideas!

Ceran Wrap

My mom bought a few boxes of colored ceran wrap, and I was wondering if there's anything crafty to use it for besides wrapping candy and such in it? Sorry if this is kinda a dumb question, but it's really colorful and I think it'd be neat if I found a craft use for it. Thanks!

I know lots of you are moms or big sisters...
could someone measure for me the wrist of a child in the 5-7 age group (preferably a girl)... I have a commission for a piece of jewelry... but I never see little kids so I can't even estimate how big it should be.

Thanks in advance.

there was a recycle art show in vancouver (at the planetarium i think) a few years ago that exhibited a LOT of things made from "tiles" made from pop cans. they used the tiles for anything from floors, to tables, to chairs. and i think it was more than one artist who did it, so it shouldn't be so obscure that i can't find an example on the net! i tried to find an example on google but didn't see any. maybe there's another word for pop (ie soda) that i don't know about?

i'm curious how they would fold over the edges so that even the corners weren't sharp. do you think they had a machine?

I have a question and I need help ASAP because I'd like to go get materials tomorrow. Any help is VERY appreciated.

I'm thinking of putting faux fur trim on a coat that I have but I don't have access to a very wide variety of colors. In fact, the only color that I know I can find is white. So I'm curious if cheap faux fur panels like this..

..are dyeable? Like I said, I'd like to go and get the materials for it tomorrow so if anyone could help me before tomorrow afternoon, that would be fantastic. Thanks! <3

A while ago I found instructions for a really dandy fabric-cutting and sewing table. It had a cork top and a layer of brown paper over that. It was on one of those new hip DIY websites and the instructions showed photos of the author and a friend assembling it in her driveway. I'm SURE I bookmarked it, but it's gone!

Anybody, anybody?

There's 7 pictures behind the cut...
I won the aucitons on eBay recently and was wondering if there was anything else I could make with the little papers besides flowers and cranes.
I was thinking maybe I could use them as backgrounds on cards or something?
Anyone familar with origami?
Plus I had to show this stuff off...heh heh.
I paid $8.30 for it all, shipping included.
Shipping was $7.00 for it all, but I figure I got quite a steal considering 7 auctions amounted to $1.30 and I look at the origami paper in the craqft store and it is $3.00/$4.00 perpackage and I do not get as much as I get here.

Can anyone direct me to a good origami paper folding website online?

[identity profile] jealousofthesky.livejournal.com
i was at micheals, where i never really go but they had the terra cotta pots i needed and i wasnt driving 30 minutes to get cheaper pots, and waste gas money. it worked out. anyway.
so im there getting the stuff i need for my moms present (mosaic flower pots is one part, more on that later)
and i find a how to knit kit by lion brand yarns and boyle. its...great. good instructions. has needles and all that good junk (half of it i have no clue what it is anyway) the book is really clear and...it makes the whole thing easy. i just have to... practice more.

so. my moms presents this year = terry cloth and fleece robe im making (this is the easy one. sadly)
two terra cotta pots mosaiced for the front porch (which shes proud of since she built the walkway out of old barn-wood herself. its really nice. shes handy like that. haha)
the ones we have...are nasty. pretty flowers. ugly pots.
i want to make her some marble magnets of the cats (because she loves the cats too much) but i have to take pictures of them first.

i had an idea for a marble magnet type thing the other day. a chess board/checker board type thing.

get a cookie sheet or something like that (metal. yep) and glue checkered fabric on it. make side areas at the sides (to put pieces taken on)

for checkers = red and black marbles. easy enough.

chess = clear/slightly tinted. red/white. or whatever colors. use pictures OR names of pieces (rook= picture of a rook OR the word rook) the word would probably work easier.

and the chess can double as checkers too.
easy travel game!

and one.last.thing. i saw these...kits at micheals. gingerbred houses, but they were made of sculpey. premade houses and you buy the decorations to put on. now. im not into spending too much money on a non-food gingerbred house for my grandma (i think she'd love it) and...crafty is better than storebought with gramma always. so im going to make her a little gingerbread sculpey house. and decorate it all cute and whatnot. i think the g-parents will love it.

oh. AND I SWEAR THIS IS THE LAST THING.
my mom bought this cast iron table for in the living room, as a present for my dads birthday (but more one of those things she liked but decided to give it to my dad. my parents are like that. he buys new attachments for our johndeere back-hoe thing for a project she wants him to do for her birthday, she buys furniture for the house for his) and she was putting our clovis ...arrow..cutting tool thing (something native american he found on our property and the musuem verified its... quality and that junk) shes putting it in the table to display it. when he usually keeps it locked in a firesafe box with the papers and the other arrow heads he found. so shes arranging them and keeps asking me if it looks ok. and out of no where i hear her yell I HATE CRAFTS.
i dont know why it just cracked me up. because shes...crafty, but in a more 'build the barn and paint it pink' type crafty.
and do a crappy job painting it at that. =D
