i'm at my parents house for christmas break and i was going through some old stuff in my room and discovered that i have a GIANT box of sculpey clay.... like a box of 30 diff colors!! i must be some stoner b/c i don't remember WHEN or WHERE i got these... but only 2 or 3 of the colors are actually opened and the rest are sealed...

I was wandering around in the basement the other day and spotted a shirt in a bag that my mom was going to send to the salvation army. I saw some potential in it and here's the results!

can you use magic markers to colour in shrinky dinks? i know it says permanent markers but really the colour selection of those is horrific.

Hey all, I'm new to the community, so I'ma say a few random things.

I want to make hats and bags and such, as I love them and have lots of them.
I am very into Asian culture, disgustingly cute things, colourful things, all sorts of things, and I like to mismatch patterns and colours.
They would have to be handsewn, as I don't have access to a sewing machine.
I cannot knit, crochet, or embroider (very well anyway).
I do not have my license or a car, so getting around to places is rather hard at times.
I am a 1st year Asian Studies major (college freshman) without a job.
I don't really know what kind of fabrics or threads or tools or whatever is best to make these things.
I also need a tutorial on how to make pop-tab bracelets.
Where is the best place to buy sturdy corduroy and thick plaid flannel fabric?
Please help me, as I am considerably inept.

I've been wanting to get more crafty for a while now, and I'm hoping that y'all can help meh. *__*

Some ideas I have:
~Bob Ross bag/pillow/hat/something (I've got a white ringer tee with him on it, and a brown screenprint on blue jersey material)
~fleece animal hats
~sturdy bags, preferably not too small (ie: shoulder bags, etc.)
~a thick, ankle length skirt
~I also have a bajillion patches, and nothing to put them on, a bunch of old t-shirts, a band shirt for The Used that I don't wear often because it's too heavy and long, and a lot of iron-on letters as well

Please comment with any suggestions or anything, I'd really appreciate it, and thanks for taking the time to read this. ^-^V

this is a re-post/reminder of an event that someone had posted a month or so ago (i forget who but thanks for the info!!)...

Sorry to write another one so soon, but I've got a burning question~>

I've got a lot of really cool stickers, but nothing to put them on (same with my patches). I ono what to do with them, I was thinking maybe I could do some decoupage, but I'm not sure how to do that, or on what. As for my patches, maybe make fleece hats and iron them on? What kind of fleece should I use for making hats, and what kind of stitch and thread, since I'll be hand-sewing them.

Thanks again for all your help. ^-^V

hi, i was wondering if anyone here had knitted hat patterns or websites where i could find them. the most basic type, since this would be my first time knitting something other than a scarf. i have size 10 and 11 needles.
thanks

Hello! I just want to introduce myself to this community since I just joined. A lj friend of mine heard me talking about decoupage stuff and told me about this community. I found it interesting! I didn't know there was something like that around! ;)

Well, I'm Mariarita, from Italy, and I always considered myself a creative person. Recently, I discovered decoupage and I really like it! I tried decorating things too...I dididn't really re-do much yet as I'm still a beginner but I want to become good at it.

During the Cgristmas holidays I finally had some spare time to use so I decorated a metal kitchen box with wintery sceneries. It's really much better than before now. I also decorated a Christmas plastic ball. It was a simple ball...just made of plastic, just for decorating...no pictures, no color...nothing. So a friend of mine gave me a kitchen napkin with Christmas images on (Santa with the sleigh and the reindeer) and I decorated the inside of the ball with these images. The ball could be split in 2 parts in fact so it was easy. After sticking these images on both sides I used a golden color (an acrylic one) to color the background (always inside the ball). I used a sponge so the effect was better. Then, on the outer part of the ball, not inside anymore, I defined the contours of the whole image (not everywhere, just where it was needed and the effect would've been better) with glitter glue. The final result was really really nice! :)

Lastly, I recently decorated my door bell with leaves and flowers. Before it was plain white.

I really love decoupage and I have many things on my mind that I wanna try out, so I'll post more soon...hopefully. :)

If anyone out there got good ideas to share it would be really nice!

All in all, this is a great creative community and I'm glad it's also so active!

Ooops...sorry, this entry is really long! Hope I didn't bore you all too much! ;)

I'm thinking yes, but wanted to check since you can't use cross stitch patterns for knitting as they get distorted since knitted stitches aren't square.
Anyone know?
[identity profile] evil-abbe.livejournal.com
Hi all!

Basically, I'm making a little crochet zine and I need some help. Yeah, I know it's goofy and all that but since school hasn't started and I've got nothing to do, I think it'll be fun.

I'm looking for submissions...

- Patterns you came up with that are truly exciting.
- Stories about crochet. However you want to interpret that.
- Pattern reviews. I'm not entirely sure what type of patterns yet so that one is still in the works.

Any suggestions would also be great.

(PS, I also am starting a pattern swap in my journal but that's besides the point)

I checked the memories but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. I have a t-shirt that still fits me from third grade [i have tiny boobs] that I absolutley love. Fromw earing it for the past eight years, it's got these magnificient deodorant marks that won't go away. This shirt isn't wide enough to make into a skirt, so what else can I do with it?

hello all, i am about to start my first project using mod podge. i want to do an altoid tin for my boyfriend of his fav. bands and stuff. ive started cutting out pics from magazines. my questions are:
do you have to spray/paint the tin with a primer or paint first? or do you just start with the tin the way it is?
once the tin is finished, say he finds another pic to add to it, can you just add that the the tin or once its finished its finished?

im sure ill have more questions later on when i get started. thank you all for your help and inspiring me to become crafty ;]

I finished mod podging this ) the other day. It got the pictures for the top from my Two Towers Wall Calendar, and the other pictures came from my Fellowship of the Ring day-by-day calendar, both for 2003. :) I like it, and that's all that matters, right?

And I painted this )table over the summer, but I thought I'd show it now, since I just joined in December :) I got it at a thrift store for $10, sanded it, primed, painted and finished it :) And I have a chair that's almost done too...expect a picture of that soon too :-P

Hi all. Im new to this community. Ive been perusing around it for quite a while, but never really had much to post, or was too lazy to do so. Heh. So, Ive finally decided to join, and show you all this site: Tramplamps!
Im not sure if anyone has seen this before, but I think its an incredible idea. Im pondering on how to make one myself because, well, I dont have $125 to spend on one, and I like to make things myself. So, if anyone has any ideas on how to get started, please let me know! Thank you so much, and I look forward to being a part of this community. I should be posting some pictures soon of a good amount of projects Ive done. Ta!

Before going about "decorating" the Altoid tins, should you generally spray-paint them with a solid color? I don't want it to look silly after I put the pictures on.

hi! i was [livejournal.com profile] krazyannie, but when lj took away invites i wanted to keep a monopoly on my user name. now that i'm in the possession of a digital camera, i want to share some stuff i've made recently. my dog died in november, so i made a scrap album and some pages for it. there are also some pics of a tray i made with some print outs, i painted the tray in a copper and glow in the dark and put the pics on with mod podge.

Does anyone know where I can find these, measuring approximately 5x6 inches in size? I've found plenty of these resealable craft bags measuring 4x5" & 4x6", but the items I need them for won't fit in these. I've already checked our local Walmart, Michaels, AC Moores & Joanne's, as well as their web sites.

Also, while I'm at it, does anyone have any ideas for putting suede fabric scraps to use (they are long scraps ranging anywhere from a 1/4 an inch to 2 inches in width)?

Thanks tremendously in advance & happy new year, everyone!

My cousin and his girlfriend are having twins. They are not planning on finding out the sex of the babies until they are born.
So I want to make them blankets. But I want the blankets to be similar, but different.
I was thinking of maybe doing something in bright colors....like crocheting squares and then hooking them together.
I was thinking of maybe doing the squares in different colors and stitches...like single, double, shell....etc.
I'm not very advanced yet, so what I make has to be pretty simple.
Has anyone ever made anything like that before?

I want to make them something too because I am poor..heh heh
And I need neutral colors.
Does anyone have a good pattern they can share for something cute I can do?
I mean if this seems like it will be too much work, I wont do it and I can make a more simple blanket.
I just want them to be different. I don't want to start the twins off from the get-go with everything being the same.
Thanks!!
Any help/suggestions will be nice.

Even though they weren't confiscated, my wooden double pointed knitting needles were the surprise subject of scrutiny today. This was on the way from Hong Kong to Chicago; A was at the hk airport when they stopped the carry-on screening with my bag.

I had stashed a pair of scissors, becuase I was like "hang it all, I'm sick of this overly-freaking security!" and thought if they wanted something to freak out about, here it was. Plus, I needed them in case I decided to knit (which didn't happen).

A man motioned me to open my bag, upon which he donned a pair of white cotton gloves and started rooting through my bag. Instead of my scissors, he took out a DPN, looked at it, and tapped his index finger against one end to test the pointiness. Then he took out another one and shook it, tapped it against the first one, and held it out to another security dude.

By this point, I was more amused than irritated. :) In my crappy Cantonese, I told him they were for knitting and he let me go after that. With me needles. And a new story for you all. :D

First post.... Sorry no pictures. Maybe I will be able to get some later. I made gifts for my friends and we exchanged a good number of them on New Years Eve.

I etched a matching set of glasses for two of my friends. They love each other and call each other dork so I made glasses with Dork!! and som binary on them.

I etched a mug with the Robotech symbol on it for another friend.

I stenciled two bags for two different people. One with an eye of horus and the other an ankh.

I gave another friend a necklace made with amethyst beads. She has been drooling at it ever since I made it. I made the thing a while ago.

Also I made a bracelet with star shaped and round beads made of hematite.

I was helping my friend paint her room, and the pants I wore got paint on them. So i cut up the parts that didn't have paint on them, and made a few things.

Make them disappear... )

[livejournal.com profile] craft_swap_uk!!!!
I made a new community that's for creative crafters!I'm posting here in case anyone's interested in joining!
Join if you like to sew, knit, paint, draw, collage, etc.
What happens here is this-
a swap will be suggested by either the moderator or by a member. There's a deadline for when each project has to be posted off and you'll make something for that deadline.
The results of the swap will be displayed on a website and you will recieve the craft which someone else has made.
For example:
say you make a handmade bag...your bag will be posted off and you will recieve a handmade bag that someone else has made in exchange.
Also, although the community is "uk" non UK people are welcome to post.
If you like this idea please join the community:

I'd like to start some clay projects but was stunned by the cost of polymer clay when i visited the craft store yesterday. I'm not ready to invest yet - I'd like to experiment with some less expensive stuff first.

Does anyone have a recipe for salt dough or other self hardening or bake-able or air drying clay type stuff that i could mix together at home?

I have a vague recollection of making some dough in elementary school that we molded and baked and painted....

thanks!

Hello,
Does anyone know if those Miny Sewing machines, believe they were by a company called tool (?) were any good? I saw them at A.C. Moore they are small, and for fabric or paper crafts, sound familiar and if so do they work well anyone know?
[identity profile] corrin.livejournal.com
This may be a rather obvious question but I don't want to waste my materials and money but can you stencil on a black t-shirt with white fabric paint? If so, do you have to do anything special since the white would be lighter than the shirt?
[identity profile] glostickgurli.livejournal.com
hi, i checked the memories, and im not real sure if i saw this, so if this has been answered you can delete this or yell at me. I was wondering is there anyway to get iron on letters OFF your shirts? I accidently ironed a letter on backwards...thanks.

Id like to keep this one just handcrafts because in my opinion thats 483904832 more interesting http://www.livejournal.com/community/diyshop/ I hope a lot of you join theres tons of creative people in this community (!!!)

& HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE !
