Apr. 12th, 2004 01:50 amWhat can I do with... an empty PC case?
Nah, but really; we got a new fancy computer last month, but the old piece o' crap is still lying around, since we didn't really know where to take it (the good bits like the hard drive serve as an secodary drive in this new comp, but the rest of the pieces are..uh... obsolete...) Well, so as it often happens, the computer has been lying around my room, next to my bed... And I kind of realised it was a great bedside table! A heavy one though.
Well, tonight I've been emptying it from the parts and all, so it is basically the it's the case that's left. Any cool ideas what to do with it, if I'm turning it into a little table? Since it is hollow, I've been thinking about making some kind of compartments inside, to hold stuff O_o
And the front panels (the cd drives etc.) could serve as great little drawers, if I attach a boxy things to them and a tiny knob! :D
Maybe slapping some paint onto it, or something? Any more ideas?
(Pardon any mistakes/weirdness, it is 1:49 am O_o )

Two Questions
Apr. 12th, 2004 02:04 amFirst of all, I was interested in making my own deodorants. I found the recipes in the memories, but I was wondering what kind of containers to use for a solid deodorants. Obviously I'd prefer to reuse one of the commercial containers, but I'm not entirely sure how to clean it out. Would hot water and soap work just fine?
Secondly, and totally unrelatedly, I was thinking about making a punching bag for my boyfriend so he has something substantial to hit when he's pissed =P Now, I was planning on using the heaviest grade of cotton duck I can find, and stuff it with sand. But I'm a little unsure if my regular sewing machine would stitch several layers of heavy cotton duck, and what kind of thread to use to keep the entire thing together, considering it's going to be getting some heavy wear and tear. Should I line the inside with plastic? Anyone have any ideas?

Apr. 12th, 2004 02:20 amhello, my name is Linzie, i'm 21, and i have a crafty problem (hehe, i feel like i'm in CA, Crafters anonymous)
well after an easter disaster, i still find the will to post. This is my first actual post in this community, i've commented a few times though. I decided to start off my first post by talking about the project i'm in the middle of. My boyfriend needed to get a new photo album for his pics, but the only one he could find for really cheap was this decent sized blue happy birthday one. So i told him that if he bought it, i would decorate it for him. So he bought it and sent it home with me. So far i've painted it black, painted "Rich's" in red at the top, took some cut up pipe cleaners and spelled out "Pics" and glued them onto the bottom half. Then, i put a thin coat of glue over the the word "Pics" and took some glue coated string and drapped it in a little funky design all over the word. I'm going to let it dry and then eventually paint the bottom half in black again, so it looks like a textured black bottom. Hopefully i'll have pics soon to show what it looks like. I really think he's going to like it, Whatcha think?

Felting/Fulling Stickiness
Apr. 12th, 2004 11:50 amI've been wanting to try shrinking down old knits and turning them into something else for ages. Yesterday my local thrift store had a 50% sale and I bought a HUGE pink mohair sweater (very 80's, I tried it on for fun and it came down to a few inches above my kness). The label actually said it was 70% mohair, 30% wool.
So, I dumped it in a basin of really hot water and tried it by hand but it was very slow so I put it in the washing machine on hot. It did shrink down but it stuck together! ie. the front of the sweater stuck to the back and the sleeves stuck to themselves. Luckily I noticed before it was too far done and was able to pull it apart (actually I got my boyfriend to do it as it was really hard to pull). This happened while it was in the hot water, I didn't spin it or tumble dry it.
So, how can I prevent this in future? I'd like to put this same sweater through again as the stitches are still pretty visible but I'm worried it's going to stick together into one big blob of felty wool. Any ideas?

Hello! ^_^ My name is Sarah and I am 15 years old. I love making bracelets, drawing, and graphic design. About 2 summers ago I had a thing with lip balms, and browsing through the Memories makes me want to go make some right now. =)
And I come with a great idea with CD's. A couple weeks ago, my little sister got these gel markers that stick to anything. No lie, I decorated my plastic binder with them and it sticks really well. My twin sister took the markers and started to decorate CD-R's that we had no use for and would tie them from the air vent with embroidery floss in our room. Right now there are two stuck up there, and it definately makes our room a little more colorful.
About the markers though, I cannot remember the name of them. I know for sure that you can buy them at Wal-Mart. If anyone knows the name of them, I would greatly appreciate it! =)

Apr. 12th, 2004 01:40 pmi got a bit bored yesterday, and decided i'd try and crochet something that would keep my wrists a bit warmer, and so maybe make them ache less while im knitting or crocheting. its the first thing i've crocheted other than little practice granny squares. but im quite proud of it. now i just have to do one for my other arm :D
alsooo.. i added some more after i took the picture, it ends on pink near my fingers, so its a bit longer after the thumb hole

OK... I was all excited to make this project, and I was gonna keep it a secret from you guys till I was done and show you all and be worshipped like crazy, however I have hit a wall and I need your help...
I saw this bag on this website:
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Cottage/3606/hkfcoinp.html
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Cottage/3606/hkminicoinpurse.html
And I thought wow, that would be totally amazing to do a big pillow like that and give it to my friend Micheala (who is obsessed with Hello Kitty and is leaving for exchange soon).
The problem is that when I go to do the head it curls in and starts looking like a hat.... This is the third time I have attempted doing this and I am getting really fed up! I wanted to do two wide ovals and sew them together but I AM GETTING SO FRUSTURATED!
Any patterns online you know of that could help me? In the end I want the bag to be about a foot and a half long! Thanks ladies!
*****OH! I also wanted to know... If any of you girls had crocheted a pillow before, is it best just to put the stuffing stuff in it? Or do I make a bag for the stuffing and then sew it into the pillow? Thanks again!

Jordy Bags!
Apr. 12th, 2004 06:45 pmI've finished about a dozen of these, I thought I'd share. I got the basic pattern from a tutorial on http://www.craftster.org, it's in the bags & purses section. I really love these bags; I'm going to be making many, many more.

DANGER Computer Monitor Crafts!
Apr. 12th, 2004 06:58 pmSomeone posted a response for another user to make a fish tank out of a old computer monitor - this is not advised due to some safety issues - monitors can explode and shoot glass all over including into you - they also carry high current (enough to kill you) well after the time they are unplugged - do not open a monitor or some other electrical device if you do not have the proper training to do so - your life could be at stake here folks.

Apr. 12th, 2004 07:53 pmThis isn't really craft related... But I think its a very close relative :)
One of my assignments for an art class was to do a grid-pencil drawing... And mine is almost done... (Marilyn Manson) But I think it needs something. I don't know why but it doesn't look right to me :/ Could any of you offer some suggestions?
PS-If you want this deleted, I understand :)
(I also put a pic of the assignment I had last year(Daron Malakian))
( ...doot doot... )

my baby shower! I need one more idea
Apr. 12th, 2004 09:54 pmI am having my third bebe. I already have one boy and one girl so I dont really need anything that is usually given at showers.
My sister and I are throwing a shower like party for me. As far as the guests know they are being invited to a luncheon for fun. When they get there they will be able to choose from 3 craft projects that will be made for the baby (a girl.)
Project #1 will be to make origami paper cranes that will be made into a mobile.
Project # 2 will be to decorate onesies...I guess with fabric paint, etc.
Project #3? I'm not sure about....which is why I am asking you wonderfully creative innovative unique artsy gals for help. I have a couple ideas but they are not very clever. I welcome all ideas and will post pics of the final projects when they are done.
thanks

curiouser and curiouser
Apr. 12th, 2004 11:18 pmmood: curious
I'm not sure if anyone here has seen the old Walt Disney version of "Alice in Wonderland" ♥ if you have, I'm looking for a good pattern to follow to make an apron like the white one that alice wears.
Plus, what do you think would be a good fabric to make it out of? I want something sturdy, hopefully thicker than usual sheet fabric (sturdy enough to paint on with acrylics)
THANK YOU! :)
