I want to buy myself a used wedding gown from the Goodwill or Salvation Army and dye it neon green. Where would a person look to find fabric dye? Enough fabric dye to do a lot of dyeing? I don't think I've ever seen it at places like Jo Anns, but I'm probably wrong...er, hopefully wrong.

If anyone could inform me of the right places to shop for dye, I'd love you forever...or maybe 'till next week at least ;)

[edit]
might as well ask this also... do you know of places that will dye clothing for you?

How would I go making this shirt )

into a shirt like this? )

I have seen no posts, tutorials, or anything else for something like this.

All I keep running into are t-shirt posts.. is this unheard of?
Basically I want to give it that "split" dress/duster style and much more fitted.. what you see when its pinned back..
Any advice at all? it has 4 darts, 2 in front, 2 in back. its a large-sized medium (women's) and I would like it to fit around x-small.
where it is fitted, its a little less than 28".
Should I remove the darts?
Is there no non-tedious way to go about doing this?
I also kind of want to make it off the shoulder, with thick straps on the shoulders, will that be too hard also?

I could leave it pinned, but I want a less-obvious way to make it smaller. plus pinned back it gets all bunchy, because there is ALOT of excess fabric.
If there's a no-sew way to just hold it all back, that would be fine, but if I have to cut and sew and measure and glue or whatever, that's fine too.
I've thought about a lace-up back, replacing the back with less, new fabric, removing the darts and reshaping it.. but I really have no idea how to go about doing it at all.

by the way, the second picture of the shirt is it pinned back. )
Sorry for all the questions, and..
Thank you thank you thank you for any advice!!

Haha, please excuse my bra showing through, and my messymessy room.

Crafty P.S.A.--

If you're a crafty gal in Chicago, consider coming out for a meeting of the Craft Underground NeTwork (or the underground or c.u.n.t, affectionately).

We're a kickass, laid-back, fun group of alternative crafty mavens, approx. age 21-35, living in Chicago who like to share stories, laughs and ohhhh yes, lots of crafts! We meet once a week, alternating between Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons, in our humble apartments. In our short 4 months we've never cancelled a meeting once! We like to have frequent meetings because if you need to miss a few, you won't suddenly find it's been 4 months with no crafty contact.

Bring yourself, a friend if you'd like, and a portable project. Hell, just bring a magazine and soak up some crafty energy, if you've got nothing to work on! We've got a great mix of regulars and newcomers, and we're always looking for more like-minded people to come craft with us!

If you'd like to learn more, please feel free to join our LJ community, [livejournal.com profile] craftundrground or our Yahoo Group, though all our events, locations and reminders are posted primarily to the Yahoo Group.

Thanks, and craft on! :)

I'm mentioning a couple of books that I have read over the years and really liked. You can get them from the library, or used from Amazon.

The first is Sew Your Own Accessories. Real simple stuff like hats, clever belts, earrings, and other goodies. I loved this book to death when I was younger. Nothing overly complicated, but neat. Plus it was written in the 70's!

My current favorite, another book from the 70's, is The Undies Book. I stumbled on it in the library this year and HAD to buy it off Amazon. It has easy info and small gridded patterns to enlarge for all kinds of things, like slips, bras, underpants, and a crochet pattern for a bikini! I positively love this book and refer to it often.

Lastly, we have Of Course You Can Sew!. It was a wonderful and comprehensive intro to sewing, laying out patterns, etc, and has instructions for making a very nice looking gathered skirt. This baby was also written in the 70's, but it's groovy anyway!

Anyway, just thought I'd share. Does anybody have any titles to add to the list?

Has anyone used those Clorox bleaching pens on clothes? I'm been thinking of buying one and decorating a pair of old jeans, or buying a really cheap denim jacket and having my way with it. Any tricks for working on fabirc with bleach, or is there a way to use it without it getting everywhere?

Thanks a bunches!

So I've been busy today, Thought I'd share my two purses.. I'm not sure exactlly what the fabric is, it's white and just barely furry on one side, and almost vinyl-y on the other side.. Nifty.

I made some glazes in ceramics and I am so excited. They turned out so great. I'm gonna take pictures soon, to post here. I just had to tell someone because I'm excited. The one is a really awesome red. It's not a bright red, it's kinda red and black. I hope I can get the pictures to come out.

I registered for my fall classes yesterday, and I signed up for glaze calcualtions. My professor told me I should take it, so I think it will be fun.
