Does anyone know what this part of the pattern means? I bolded the part I don't get.

Shape Neck: Ch 1, sc in first 7 sc; TURN. Dec 1 st at beg of next 2 WS rows – 5 sc. Work 1 row. Fasten off.

does that mean I do a row of single crochets or what?
This is my first time making a dress...so I am confused.
The full pattern can be found here: http://www.coatsandclark.com/fun_and_free/yarn/lw1392.htm

This is the wall...hanging...thing I painted/decoupaged/glued tiny mirrors to for my sister in laws birthday. I think the whole thing took me a total of 20 minutes not counting drying time and cost me about five dollars.

Now i'm learning to knit, and of course i'm starting with a scarf. I think it's great because if I screw up, I can just rip it out and start again. No harm, no foul.

So, last night I saw The Princess Diaries 2, and I have fallen in love with her shawl/poncho/scarf thing! I was wondering if anyone could look at some pictures to see if they know if a) its crochet or knit and b) if they can figure out a pattern?

Now I need to get some outdoor mod podge to seal these with. :)

Three geocaches that are in their infancy right now, just having been painted with camoflauge. One of them will be a recipe exchange, and the other two will probably be traditional caches. Not sure where they're going yet.
Krylon fusion tan spraypaint on dollar store tupperware, and then ragged-on acrylic dark green, light green, and brown, with some black.

If anyone has any recipes they'd like to have me put in my recipe exchange geocache, reply with them here and I'll add them to the growing collection. Just make sure to let me know what name/nickname you want me to credit the recipe to. :)

ok I need a word of advice from experienced or even competent crocheters...

I just learned how to crochet a few days ago and I really enjoy it (im at the end of my pregnancy and busy work makes the hours pass). My glitch is this, the scarf I am attempting has now begun tapering no matter what I do. I keep losing stitches!! I have counted them and somehow I get from 23 in a row to 21 and I have no idea how. I have pulled it out and started over a gabizillion times. When I know I need to go just one more loop there doesnt seem to be one left...does that make sense? The funny thing is I didnt have this problem with the first half of the scarf then towards the end I realized my scarf was shrinking in width. Its like I forgot how to "turn around" so to speak. I really haven't founf anything useful in my little instructional book...does anyone have ANY idea what I might be doing wrong? hopelessly,
Sarah

Whilst browsing Japanese websites earlier today, I came across this craft site by accident:

http://www.craftheart-tokai.jp/qt/qt.html

It has lots of great and fun crafts on there for all ages, by the looks of it along with lots of bag patterns!

The instructions are in Japanese – but, for most of the part, they are VERY easy to follow. The measurements are all in centimetres and/or metres – which is really quite easy to use if you are not used to metric. If you have trouble following centimetres you can use this website to help convert it to inches and feet: http://www.onlineconversion.com/length_common.htm.

I hope you guys find some fun things in here, and if you make anything – please show it off!

Naomi~

Bedskirt

Hi, my first post and I'm really intimidated to post it. But I saw this idea at the store and thought it was crafty enough to share.
At my local Fred Meyers they have a bed set up to display their newest bedding sets and they had the neatest bed skirt. It was fabric with a row of muti-colored, plastic, beaded curtain strings dangling down from the top. It was so pretty and fun that it's inspired me to go out scouring for old beaded curtains to make my own. Maybe I could carry the theme into the pillows and lamp shades too.
Hope it's ok that've I've posted this.

having found myself incrediably stressed out by the weather - tornado watches be gone! and desperately in need of something to do with my hands that doesnt involve gnawing them to the bone....i crocheted a hat:

who doesnt need a rainbow on their head. i certainly do. especially with this crazy weather.

all single crochet and made as a rectangle with stitched up sides and added happy pom poms. because well...happy pom poms keep tornados away. right? right.

and i was so excited to start my car project today too! stupid rain.

Anyone know what kind of yarn doesn't stretch and isnt stretchy? I would really like to know so my projects don't get all stretched out and stuff...

Hello, my name is Shanen and I've been lurking for a long time here. I wanted my first post to be a wonderful one filled with all kinds of cool crafty stuff I've done, but I have yet to finisf any of it and have a major problem.

You see, I am screening myself a shirt. I'm cheap so I'm using acrylic mixed with fabric medium. It's on a black shirt.

So I plopped down the screen, smushed the paint all through and removed the screen...

The paint didn't take at all. Like, it went through the screen, but seems to have just soaked into the shirt, giving me a faded, washed out pink color. Which is not what I want. I want it nice and bright and solid. Am I doing something wrong? I went over it with a paintbrush, but I don't want to have to do that every time I screen something, it's kinda a pain in the butt.

I really should start testing on fabric other than muslin, the screens all looked fantastic when I tested them, but once on the shirt, they hate me. And I've put so much work and money into this shirt, I'd hate for it to be a waste (It's got 3 levels of color and I couldn't get the screens to line up right so I had to keep redoing them, then my cat ate one and it was just a pain.)

Can anybody help me? I promise to bring pictures next time I post.

Looky, looky I made a necklace and a pair of earrings. They're supposed to be a gift for one of my sisters in law. I know it's early for Christmas, but hey, I like having a head start. *g*

If you guys need to delete this post, my feelings won't be hurt. :)

I've gotten really.. um... obsessed with making beaded jewelry lately -- necklaces, earrings, bracelets, whatever, as long as it involves beads and wire it's all good.

So anyway.. I really am making a point (or an inquiry) here. What's a good lj community for getting inspiration for beadwork? This community is awesome, but I'm looking for something good that involves beads only.

Any suggestions?

I went to a flea market today and found the coolest thing ever! For just one dollar I found a whole box of slides, entitled 'Cartoon history'. The slides are pictures of both old and new cartoons. Naturally I have to do something with them, ideas anyone?
