query:

i bought flannel fabric to make my prototypes for my stuffed promotional toys, and my dog wound up loving playing with it (it currently resembles a blue teardrop right now, haven't played with silkscreening or embroidery on it). it's perfect for her (mouthsize) but i was thinking about trying my hand at quirky dog toys perhaps. it was just stuffed with fiberfill and i'd sew it via machine instead of by hand, but i was wondering:

is there anything i ought not to put in it/embellish it with? i think if i embroider on them it won't be too bad, but i wondered if silkscreen ink could chip off and be harmful for dogs (due to saliva possibly). perhaps heatsetting textile ink/paint? i figure if i made any beanbag toys i'd have to put it in a sewn up insert. maybe a squeak toy?

just a thought. and now, back to the drawing board for some plotting of quirky dogtoys! :)

hope everyone's black friday was good...

I'm desperately seeking a couple of strings of teeny, tiny, wee, widdle Christmas lightbulbs - smaller than what is known as mini-lights. I have a small tree decoration that's only about eight inches high that I want to decorate as a gift. I have seen these, mostly in necklace form, around the necks of tacky but kind people who really, REALLY enjoy the holiday to its fullest. The lightbulbs themselves are teensy - maybe 1/4" in length. I have had no problem finding the string of lights, but I need one that actually lights up, probably by a tiny battery. I have been looking everywhere in my corner of the world and am turning up nothing.

My questions are these:

a) does anyone here have one of these tiny strings of bulbs that they no longer need and would be willing to sell out of the goodness of their heart?
b) has anyone seen these around anywhere or know that they exist?
c) would anyone be willing to let me reimburse you and send me one ASAP?
d) is anyone willing to keep their eyes peeled for such a creature?

Thanks in advance,
Sara

P.S. I know what you're thinking - but I can't shop online... no credit card. Boo, hiss.

I crafted my first soaps tonight, but unfortneately I don't have a camera to take pictures fo them. :( They are little flowers, with glitter, clear. I made green ones scented peppermint, and peach ones scented peach. It was sooo much fun. I am looking into ordering better quality ingredients in the future to explore soap-crafting a little more. I am going to make little soap kits with cellophane and ribbons for my friends at my university residence. <33

While popping the soaps out of the mold, I was having issues ... I checked the memories, searched, etc. And found nothing on it. Does anyonehave tips for the future? (This would be a good one to add to memories, perhaps?)

hello!
(if this isn't allowed, feel free to delete it.)

my cousin has a site that's just like ebay, except it's only for hand-made items. unlike ebay, you don't have to pay to sell. it's a really lovely place if you want to check it out.

(free basic listings, up to five free images, and auction/item watch)

Hello, I've been lurking for awhile around here. I crafted for many years. Mostly sewing, I was in a few different stores, it seemed like so many of the crafters were just adding a bow to a teddybear and getting away with calling it handcrafted, so I decided to find work elsewhere. I still love to sew when I have time.
My daughter is 16 and I am sure she'll think she needs to go and spend loads of money on all her friends again this year. So I came up with an idea while we unpacked our Christmas stuff yesterday.
Last year my boss made us these cute polar fleece scarves. I remember her mentioning they could also be made using a snowman instead of santa. My daughter even thought this was a great idea, since scarves are al the rage this year. So has anyone seen/or know or a patteren?
Here is the santa one I have, the scarf is his hat with a tassel at the end. The face is put together with fusiable web. I'd ask my (former) boss, but she retired, moved away, well is tourning the country with her husband in the RV and dont answer emails very often. So I thought I'd try here. We are going to try and draw out the snowman, and use a printed fleece for the scarf/hat, we'll see!

Hey guys!

Alright, so I was wondering if ya'll have any creative ideas for something to organize/hold/whatever jewelry

I have a couple rings, many many many necklaces, a lot of bracelets, and some earrings (mostly dangly kinds) and I want to make something to hold it all. Everything in my room is pretty modern and techie so that's the theme I'm going with.

Any ideas? Thanks

Thanks for your help in my post below. I'd already started this snowman one when I checked that someone had posted the link, I like mine a little better. Well my daughter and I sat down and created this one. The tassel doesnt match, I bought a few basics this a.m. and had to use whatever else I could find. Any additional idea for the snowman would be great. Oh and I cant take credit for the santa scarf, my former boss made them.
Here's what we came up with, just messing around. I used blanket stitch because the table was already a mess and I didnt feel like dragging out the sewing machine.

I am having the worst time finding essential oils...
I need...peppermint, cherry and maybe vanilla...
I have looked all around and cannot find them. I tried all my local drug stores...I tried the craft stores...nothing.
It's like..no one stocks these flavors...haha
Anyone know where I can find them?
I want to make some bath salts as christmas presents...I figured I could make them for family members and for the people I work with.

I looked on eBay...and couldn't really find what I wanted.

So..can anyone direct me to a place online where I could get them and where it won't cost me $30 for them?

I just need small amounts of each.

I have been working on christmas presents like crazy.
When I went to the sale at Jo-Ann's yesterday...I got flannel fo rlike...$0.99 a yard. It was crazy awesome.
I bought tons of it and I plan on making diaper covers and diapers and such.
I just couldn't pass it up.

They had fleece on sale today for $1.99 a yard, but I couldn't bring myself to get up at 5:45 to catch the bus...heh

Any other good ideas for fleece? Would they make good pillows or no? My dad is into bowling and stuff...so I got a yard of it that has bowling balss and pins and such on it..but I have no idea really what to do with it.

Does anyone know of a good (and free) online pattern for a ribbed hat? Or could help me make a pattern. I want to make a hat to match a scarf and arm warmers I made but I'm terrible at creating out patterns. It ideally would be k2 p2 made in the round- how would I decrease the top for it to look nice?

Thanks for all your help! I'll post pics of the whole set as soon as it is finished.

I've already looked in the memories, to no avail -
Does anyone have any links to some adorable/unusual stuffed animal tutorials?
I've got a nice piece of tan faux suede-y fabric that's just begging to be a critter for the baby nephew...
Also, I'm kind of a sewing idiot, which is why I'm hoping not to tackle an elephant. :)

i had some old 3 inch floppy disks laying around. since my new laptop doesn't even have a floppy drive, i decided to take them apart to see if any of the pieces were worth saving for crafting purposes. when i cracked them in half there is this circle piece around the metal piece (yeah, real descriptive here, right?) so i thought that was worth saving (can we say pack rat everyone?) what i'm wondering is are any pieces of floppy disks toxic or anything? i hope not cos i just touched every single piece of about 7 of them! also, any ideas for what i can do with them?
