I love my apartment but it has the most hideous window treatments. Vertical blinds! UGH! I'd like to make curtains, especially for the ones in my bedroom but I'm not sure how I could secure them to the wall. I'm renting so bolting a curtain rod in to the wall is kind of not an option.

Anyways, pictures )

So any thoughts on how I could make this work?
Thanks!

Thanks for the great ideas girls. I'll let you know how it goes :)

I haven't posted much of what I've done before, but I finally had a little time to load in some pics of the stuff I made on/around Xmas... although most of the things were gifts, some were actually for myself! Like this chinchilla like number...

Mr. Piggum (my new camera case!) will show the way to the rest...

i just finished a new pair of earrings for a friend of mine, but darnit i want them! ;) anyway, the cool thing about this pair is that i've got other stones in similar sizes and shapes that would work instead of what these are made of (turquoise and onyx). i think i know how they can be improved, but i kinda like them as is too. if you liked turquoise, onyx, and silver, do you think you might like this pair Read more... )

On one of the stencil making diagrams that someone linked to, the person making the Tony Danza stencil was using a jar of black screen printing ink to paint with...

Where the hell do you get that??!!!

And what are you all using for stencils to print on? They said freezer paper - I don't know what the texture is like.. and ALSO! Do you have any suggestions for keeping the stencil flat while filling it in? I'm very nervous about trying this out. I guess I will have to test it. I want to do my shirts on American Apparel stuff but it is pricey and I don't want to fuck up.

Hi girls, I am a first time post-er. I have a problem! I was sewing a strips for a quilt last night(fleece) and I got 1/2 through and my machine when nuts-o. At the bottome of the material the thread would tangle into a huge mess, and if I didn't catch it, it would get all jammed in the machine. I read the manual, and checked the bobbin (used a new one, used new thread, cleaned everything, and adjusted the tension. So I'm at a loss. Any help will greatly be appreciated! Oh and here's a pic of some shirts I screened for my sister, my mother and I. The heart is a tattoo my sister and I have on our behinds!

I also did one for my bf but he already took it.  It had a dragon on the back!

Behold the Altoid Tin!! I had a lovely time experimenting with Altoid tins this holiday and making little shrines of sorts. (Pardon the quality of my phone photos.)

Hello!
I just set up my sewing machine and am itching to beak it in! The only thing is, I'm plus sized and was wondering if you had any ideas for flattering tees/clothes made from t shirts. I stencil so I have some cute larger tees but am tires of wearing HUGE clothes, so I wanted to knopw what you thought. Thanks in advance.

this used to be a sweater, but I unraveled it and tried to dye it.

the yarn was a mix of acrylic, angora, and wool, and I knew it wouldn't dye completely, but I'm pretty pleased with it in the end.

I made this shrine box a while back but I didn't have a digital camera until now, and I didn't often get access to a scanner so I haven't been able to post this until now.

take a look )

Over Christmas and New Years I worked on new quilt tops using fabric and lantern blocks around I've had around for yeeeears. Finally time to work on it.

Here's one of the two tops that are nearly done. The one above is 50"x70", the second one 50"x60". Out of the three big print use in the large 10" squares. And the extra pieced blocks mean I could make two more tops (if I find more big prints to work with them). Crazy.

These need borders and fleece backing, but well on their way.

Hi Everyone!

We're all trying to do fundraisers at school for the Red Cross to send over to the tsunami victims, I'm editor of the newspaper, and I'd like to try to start some other kind of way to get more money to give... any suggestions for easy things to make, that maybe have something to do with what is going on? (We're already going to be selling homemade chocolate...if I had a button maker or something, I would probably do something along those lines.....)

I'm sorry for such a boring post, but I'm having a hard time thinking about good ideas... please give me your always wonderful input, if possible! :)

Thanks,
Meg

Hey d00dz... I've got a quick question. For those of you that sew from patterns, what would you recommend for a women's buttondown shirt? I'd like to try to make a few and I just think that's one of those things that it would be best to get a pattern for.

So this isn't text-only.
Jordy bag, worrrrd. )
Thanks!

Okay guys. I'm a visual learner and I want to know how to do granny squares. My problem is that there are no tutorials with pictures. if anyone knows where one is, or if you can make one yourself, i would adore you forever!

you guys are always helpful, so thank you in advance and i'm sorry this is a text only post.

hi! just joined - been watching for a while, though. i love looking at all the stuff everyone's made. i've been knitting for a while (and i'm still absolutely hooked - i do it everywhere, in the car, while watching tv, in class), and for the holidays this year i got a sewing machine. i'm so excited. i haven't done much, just fit a few shirts better so far, but i'm hoping to get some better ideas from here. i'm really interested in learning how to stencil, too. that seems so awesome.
and here's lots of pictures of all my stuff. mostly knitted.
VERY picture-heavy, be warned. )

i bought a beautiful dragonfly stamp online and like a fool didn't pay attention to the abnormal size. it's 5.25 x 4 or something like that. needless to say i haven't found any stamp pads that size, not even at the place i bought the stamp. any ideas on how to ink the stamp 'n stuff or clues on where to go?

no doubt x-posted in various craft places - thanks in advance
