Tonight, I was using a very small drill bit and a hand held drill to make holes in some beads I was making for jewelry pieces. I was having a particularly hard time with this star bead, so I used my left hand to hold the sucker down while I pushed down with the drillbit tip into the star, just hoping it would get a grip. Not having the drill going at all, the bead slipped, the drill bit went into the pad of my finger, and came out by the NAIL BED! AAAAAAAAAAACK. It didn't hurt that bad, but in the split second it took me to realize that the drillbit snapped in half, and the other half was no where to be found, I freaked out!

So I was rushed to the ER, blood spurting out of my finger (both ends).
Luckily, the drill bit was nowhere to be found in my severly damaged finger.
But I did scrape the bone. OUCH!!!

THE MORAL FELLOW CRAFTERS:
Don't be stupid like me. Even if the drill isn't going, you can still cause yourself serious harm if you don't take the proper precautions in handling drills/knives/other pointy instruments capable of going through your finger.

Peace
Noël

My New Year's resolution is to be more creative and crafty, and in light of that, I present my first true knitting projects: a (happy) skinny scarf and a (very sad) hat.

Come read my tale... )

a few minutes ago i was looking through the memories of this community, specifically, the"what to do with cd's" section, and i thought of something that my brother did about a year ago..

he took a cd, and then held it over a flame from a candle. the cd started stretching upwards. then he did it all over the cd and it looked really awesome...it looks like it could be used as a ring holder

I did not see anything in the memories about guitar pick jewelry, so I thought I would ask this: What do you use to make the little hole in the pick?

And I even know the LJ HTML! I just wanted to say hi to everyone, and to tell you all that I think your work is just amazing! But of course, I do have a question, and I would appreciate any feedback, thanks!

Thanks again! And I will post some pictures when I am done with the project!

okay, i have a question that's really bugging me. i've looked at past post re: copyright and am more confused than when i started! if i wanted to screen print song lyrics or images of people for my own use (i.e. one or two shirts), it's a violation of copyright, correct? now, if i were to credit where the words/images came from, would it still be a copyright violation (as in if you quote without a citation in a paper it's plagerism)? i won't be using these things to damage the creator in anyway, though i'm pretty sure it doesn't matter how i'm using it. i just want to proudly display my love for the music i listen to without stepping on anyone's toes. it's not like i'm reproducing shirts already made and being sold commercially either.

and i was wondering if anyone has had luck painting on knitting. i knit a wristwarmer cuff sorta thing today and wanted to paint a design on it (i was thinkin of a band logo which goes back to the copyright deal). it's knit really tightly, but i'm worried the design will crack apart (or off) when i stretch it over my hand.

Thanks for all your help! i *heart* you all. :)

Hey guys- just a little something I whipped up this morning. I ended up having to sew it by hand because for some reason my sewing machine was full of hate this morning (and by morning I mean 2pm- yeah, I'm a lazy bum).

Before you open the cut, I know that this shirt contains and awful combo of colours. That's why I got it in the first place and I heart it so good. And it's nothing too major, just a quick little pocket to cover up some ugly glue spots from where there used to be a flower applique. I struggled for quite some time with what to put over them...but I went with my original idea. Enough talking.

(I've also decided that, from now on, all of my LJ cuts will contain something about me...mainly because I'm so sick of seeing lyrics)

New member, and before I throw out my question, let me say that I have never met a more thrifty, smart group of people! You guys really are genious.

Onwards!

I've had a bag of crayola model magic sitting in my art drawer unused for months on months... Any ideas for good things to do with it? [Other than bead-making, that's the obvious answer, and I'd prefer Sculpey for that because it's harder- model magic is really lightweight and foam-ey.] Tips for with it are also appreciated!

I wait on the edge of my seat to hear what you folks have done with it :)

Yes I dutifully inspected the FAQ, but there's no entry for glue. I'll keep looking, but in the meantime...

What is the best glue for fabric on cardboard? I'm trying to make that totally adorable sewing box from the Omiyage book, and being almost exclusively a sewing person, I only have Elmer's around. I'm making my very late Christmas Martin Luther King Day gifts, so they've got to look really good.

And if anyone has any other glue-ing hints and tricks, I'm glad to hear them.

These are some earrings I simple adore. I paid out the ass for these fireopals from Japan and never used them because I was afraid of using them to making something that was less than fantastic.

Well, I got an iPod for Christmas, after many months of longing. Since I got to order it myself (boyfriend had to fess up and admit he couldn't find any in stores), I had plenty of time to read reviews over at iPodlounge.com and figure out that I was probably going to want a little case or sleeve for my iPod. I actually made an iPod sleeve by accident once, when I made a miniature purse for my friend's ball-jointed doll. It was a perfect fit and spawned the idea to produce iPod sleeves to sell along with my purses over at Sekret Powers. Why not?

So, tonight I finally got around to sewing one up. Have a look, why doncha? )

Hi all. I was curious, has anyone has any successful craftiness with pants that have those darn crease/pleats? My he-friend has a pair that are spectacularly ugly pink pants, but I am without a plan in mind. :] thanks!
