Even though I thoroughly despise Valentine's Day, I decided to make a few valentines anyway.

I also made the shirt that I asked for help on a few days ago regarding the font.

hello, my name is kristie and i am a new member. i am just learning how to sew from my mom who is a seamstress of many years. my mom and dad bought me a sewing machine for my b-day, i named him edward but he broke, i'm getting a new one soon

i have also made [livejournal.com profile] make__out a matching skirt and my boyfriends cousin a ballet tutu out of the star overlay, cut into odd pointy strips, it was sooo cute.

Hey everyone. I've been lurking for a little while and have been amazed by everybody's creativity and talent, as well as learning a bunch of stuff. So I thought I'd contribute instead of silently sucking out all of your creative juices.

Well, it's every cynic's favourite holiday. And that can only mean one thing: sappy cards for significant others. Only my dear boy-shape and I don't really do that whole lovey dovey thing well. Mainly we say mean things to each other and laugh about it. But I really wanted to make something that retained the sugary sentiment of Valentine's Day, at least aesthetically. Cue this card.

Deery Lou, love hearts and STDs? )

Oh, and I've also been hand making some little notebooks lately. Here's a couple I made my little sister for school.

Just two. )

That concludes my presentation for the evening. Hope all you ladies are treated like princesses this V-Day :D

Just finished the gift I made for hubby. It's our anniversary (third) as well as just Valentine's Day today, so I had to do something nice. I figured I'd do the love-note thing that's been toted here a few times. I put them in a jar (ended up with a 103, may add more if I can think of it) and decorated it with stickers. On it, I wrote "My Forever Valentine". I just hope he likes it. *crosses fingers*.

At some point, I'd love to get a hold of a Forever Friends picture that's got a heart or something in it and have it read that as well. Shall have to go in search of just the right one....maybe next year's Valentine ^_~

Happy Valentine's Day everybody!

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting here. I made my first stencil ever tonight, and it turned out really well. It took me a long time to cut out the stencil but it was worth it.

Today is Valentines day and its a snow day! No school!
Oh no!

Since I have extra time, but the memories are down, can anyone give me a tutorial on tissue paper flowers/roses??

I have never met a fabric that gives me as little attitude in exchange for so much tactile joy. (that and I had tons of polar fleece left over from the commuter pants, and I needed to use it up before it became random stash, and unloved over summer vacation)

I'm trying to make a chenille pillow, but I can't get the crap to fray. Any idea how to make it fray faster? I've gone one round in the washer and three in the dryer and nada. Not sure what fabric I got (it was in the remanent bin, but one may be taffeta) but I was told you could make chenille with anything that frayed easily around the egdes, which this does. Argh! I **really** don't want to start over.

this is probably the most redundant question, but i am so confused that i just had to ask. also, please note that i DID try the memories, but they are not currently working. i know others have experienced this problem as well.

anyway, any of you ladies or gents who are stencil vets should definitely help me out. i am trying to give someone directions on how to stencil and i know all of the steps involved, but i just don't know what kind of paint to recommend. so my question is what is the best paint to use for stenciling? general names or brand names would be fantastic.

i would've gone to a stenciling community, but i was a bit afraid to because i'm sure they get questions like that constantly. they would've probably ripped me a new one. that's why i came to you guys because i know you are helpful to even the most clueless. anyway, thank you (=

edit: also, i apologize for the text-only post. i am knitting a scarf now so you will see a photo update soon.

HELP!

It seems that the memories section is just gonna be down til I don't need it anymore! :) I need some birthday present ideas for my boy. I made him the two Valentines pillows, and I'm making him a big pillow for his birthday (in 5 days). But I wanna make him more stuff! Besides the pillow, I know I'm gonna make him a couple of shirts, even though I don't know what I'm putting on them yet, but that's all I've got! HELP PLEASE!!!

i FINALLY took pics of my new coachella bag i made. i took a shirt i bought at coachella last year that didnt fit me and a rainbow fleece scarf i got at the flea market and made a pretty purse! i lined it in black and filled it with a bit of stuffing so its nice and soft. i was gonna sell it but i love it sooooo much.

I don't normally get into Valentine's Day. After all, why should we need a special day to remind us to show each other how much we care?
But, I was bored yesterday, so I made some Valentine's Day pins:

I made them out of scraps I had lying about, so I'm quite pleased with the end result. I figured that if I made enough I could give them out to anybody who was nice to me on Valentine's day. Unfortunately they are quite time consuming, so I only made about six in the end. Oh well! Maybe next year...
[identity profile] seductionbeach.livejournal.com

okay. sorry for the text only post, but i have a few questions answered and any answers would be helpful:

i have a large amount of boiled linseed oil, any ideas on what i can do with it? it was pretty cheap so i dont mind using most or all of it.

everyone knows those yellow livestrong bracelets...and now theres all these colors for ovarian cancer, breast cancer, the tsunami, general cancer, etc. what can i use to write on these with? theyre made of silicone so permanent marker/sharpies do not work, it just rubs off. i also tried acrylic paint and it too peels off.

my turn to show off my pretty valentines!

some for the friends and one for the boyfriend )

its kinda hard coming up with stuff to make since our anniversary was just on the 31st. INSANE. and then his bday was on the 19th. I spoil him I think.

aaaand...to those of you who were invovled with my little delemma about the anniversary "please stop smoking pot" craft thing...I just went with a scrapbook. of the past year. It came out nice but no way am i scanning all those pages and posting them here haha... Then I told him about how all of you said "oh he'll get mad at you and break up with you if you tell him to stop smoking pot and give him a craft about it" and he said "yeah... no. im pretty sure that wouldnt have happened" and then he told me he was done. i win.

EDIT: oh know photobucket made the collage pics small!

so i dont' really know much about interfacing, but i've been using a really stiff interfacing while making purses and its been making my fabric wrinkle up a bit. is this because the interfacing is too stiff for the fabric? or is my iron on too hot?

what setting should i have my iron on? (mine has settings like wool, cotton, linen etc)

A few of you may have seen this post yesterday about my brother and the costume I spent my entire weekend sewing.

Well, the lolly-handout was a great success, and as promised, here are the photos of him and his costume out in action!

I’m planning to break in my new Print Gocco this week, and I’d appreciate any advice anyone can give me on preventing mistakes/getting the most use out of my screens.

Is there anything you know now about using the Gocco that you wish you knew when you first tried it? Is there anything I should look out for? Can you reuse screens, or do you need to get all your printing done at one time? Thanks!

Oh, and Ebay is having a 5-cent listing sale today only until 11:59 p.m. PST! I thought other crafty sellers might like to know. Here’s the link!

i'm interested in trying to make some stencils, except i have always sucked with an exacto knife. when i try to use them, i get crazy jagged edges. i just don't have that skill. however, i am a decent freehand drawer, so i an use a pencil pretty well. so i'm wondering...is there any other sort of tool that can cut in this manner, but more resembles a pencil? apologies if this is a really dumb question, i haven't tried stenciling before.

also: can you use screen printing ink with stencils on cloth?

I have a question for all you pro knitters out there: What is a simple, quick project for a beginner? I just started and I really like it.

Also here is a picture of my friend Sam wearing the collar and cuffs I made for her.

TAKE A PEEK )
[identity profile] lisamaria.livejournal.com
My boyfriend loves hawaii. He just closed on some land there, and he'll have a vacation/retirement house (yurt!) there in couple of years. Meanwhile, his stateside house, has a sunporch that he's doing tastefully tropical. Its an old house, and the sunporch is badly insulated. it gets ice cold in the winter and blazing hot in the summer.

So,keeping all of that in mind, i made him what my mom calls "a pet." i don't know about that, but its basically a pillow (mine weighed in at a whopping 8.5 pounds!) with chambers (so that the contents don't all settle into one end of the pillow because of gravity!) full of long grain rice and rosemary. The rice, when heated in the microwave (for my big pillow, i experimented, its about 9 minutes in the microwave, switching the order of the chambers every 3 minutes for even heating, keeps the pillow hot for up to an hour. the rosemary makes it smell unbelievable.

i made the pillow itself out of whte cotton, then i made a case out of some hawaiian looking fabric and i finished it off with a bambooish looking button.
The "pet" can also be frozen, for a cooling effect.

I also  made homemade chocolate covered macadamia nuts.

i used to have a polaroid camera with a broken shutter. all the photos were blank, but i kept them anyway and now i finally know what to do with them. here's the first card i made in a soon to be series that will be sent to my friends. i used colored paper, a silver skinny sharpie & a gluestick.

tell me what you think!

Ok, crafties:

I have very thin sea shells, and would do almost anything to string them. I've tried every pointy thing I own (nails, needles, pins) on them, but all I manage to do is shatter the poor things.

Anything?

Please and Thanks.

I bought 40 hot pink 14" zippers on eBay, with the intention of making a zipper purse (think: sew the zippers together side-by-side parallel-ly to make a zipper "fabric," and then sew the edges to make a purse).

I want it to be all zipper, with no designated place to open or close... just zip a hole anywhere! Any suggestions? I think I saw something similar on here once.

Memories seem to be down.
