Okay, listen up to all of you people who have been dying your hair with Kool-Aid. I used to do this back in 7th grade (oh wow long time ago, haha). And the best way to achieve vibrant colours is to BOIL the kool-aid in regular tap water. Stick your hair in it when it's frickin' hot as hell. Kind of a hazard if you don't use caution, but should work none-the-less. It should be super-concenrated, so I'd say use a couple packs of Kool-Aid. NOTE: Do not use developer with this method. I don't even want to know what could happen if you boil that stuff!

And just so this isn't text-only. Here's a little cozy for my palm pilot. 3'x4 1/2". Hand sewn. Double-seamed. Black felt and glittery purple for the robot. Stuffed him to give it a 3-D look. Ghetto as hell, but it's a sturdy little bugger. )

How do you use sequins? Do you sew them on by hand, or is there a special way to get them on by sewing machine? or.. does it involve only glue? I'm kind of confused, and I just got a bunch of them *two ziplock bags full*.. and I have a lot of ideas.

I kind of glanced at the memories, but didn't really see anything.

also, any inspiration? or more ideas of what to do with them? ^_^;; i know you guys hate people asking this, but i figured i'd give it a shot.

I made a little guy for my desk at work (he's in my userpic), and my co-worker liked him so much I made one for her for her birthday.

Then I made one for my super cool boss friend. :)

So now we're all in the Monster Club at work. :)

These are all hand stitched and all have a red leather heart. I usually make them on my lunch break. They take a few days that way, but it's very relaxing. Also, I never know what they are going to look like until they are done. :D

my apron

We just started doing our taxes (my husband is in finance and he likes getting a head start on this stuff). For my occupation this year, I ended up filling in "homemaker." Hmmm... So now that we've reported to the government that I'm a housewife, I thought it apt that I fashion an apron for myself. My sister, princess_moi, had given me a similar apron for my birthday last year. This one I made from a Simplicity pattern. I'm proud of it overall, although I feel that it is made for someone with a much larger bust than mine (and I'm nursing now, so this is about as well-endowed as I'll ever be, I'm afraid). Perhaps I made the front darts too small? Also, this is my first time working with bias tape. It's pretty neat - no hemming!

I was hoping some of you crafty ladies could help me out. I desperately want one of those sequin boleros that the celebrities are wearing, but refuse to drop $150 on something that's hardly even a shirt! I'd like to make one myself, but have been unsuccessful in finding the right pattern. (So many are outdated or for the front-tie version) Sewing or knitting/crocheting is fine. I tried making my own pattern..but it came out looking like a vest those flying monkeys wore in Wizard of Oz! (Sleeves are a problem for me)
It's as easy task, I just don't have the pattern-making abilities! :(
Any suggestions?

Thanks! Keep Crafting

so i bought fabric to make the "roll-your-own needle case" in stitch n bitch...

but i was looking at the pattern and wondering: is the flap really necessary? see i didn't actually buy enough fabric to make the flap and now i'm wondering if i'll regret not having the flap. are the needles going to fall out all the time and totally defeat the purpose of a needle case???

any input is welcome!
thanks!

Is there another term for freezer paper, or am I just unlucky enough to live next to the only supermarket in America that doesn't carry it? Wax paper didn't seem like something I'd like to iron onto my t-shirt... and tin foil didn't sound like a good idea at all. :P

Butt-Sniffing Bunny & Hoppy Bunny
Easter Cards

My boyfriend drew the butt-sniffing bunny card :) Scanned and cleaned up a bit, then printed onto neutral colored cardstock (tan, cream, light gray, white). The cards measure 5.5" x 4.25". :)

I just wanted to ask all you lovelies if it would be
okay to post tattoo photos. It's kind of a "craft
collaberation" between my boyfriend and I..drawing/painting on canvas,
then inking on my pasty white skin.
Anyway, your opinions matter to me, so please don't
worry about saying it's innapropriate for the community:)
thank you!

he started about 8 months ago. I'll also

Well, I figure I might as well show people here what happens when you combine a Metroid fanatic, boredom, and pony beads (note: for those who have never heard of it, Metroid is a sidescrolling Nintendo video game, with many a newer sequel).

All of the items I've created are mainly based off of my online comic strip, Planet Zebeth, which is based off of said Metroid game. Hence why you'll see the word "Zebeth" here and there.

Anyhoo... here's a kinda preview of one of my major items. I'll just add the others as links, because they tend to be big, and there's a whole helluva lot of 'em. Also, the links will open in seperate windows, so you don't have to keep clicking 'back'.
The Planet Zebeth placemat:
- approx. 6000 beads and 60 hours of work.

The rest will be hidden behind an lj-cut, because like I said... there's tons of 'em. )

Ok so I was making something out of bright pruple faux fur fabric but the fur was all everywhere so I made the mistake of ironing it so it'd be straight. Now the fur has lost it's shine and it's all frizzed out, is there anything I can do to make it shiney again or is it a lost cause?

Alright, I know I promised a flower tutorial, but I'm having a lot of problems with Jasc. So yeah.

But, I do have a question.

I want to make a hollow sphere out of wire. Think of it this way. If it could actually work this way it would be like inflating a balloon wrapping wire around it, then poping the balloon. Make sense? Now, the whole balloon thing would never work because of sharp edges and such. So, any suggestions on how to do this?

Also. I'm really into NWN and I want to get some D&D 20 sided die for a project. My idea is that I would just take a very small screw-type closed hook and screw it on in there. Do you think it would work? I'm definitely going with plastic here.

Thanks! And I promise as soon as I dump Jasc and find another program, I'll be in like flyn on that tutorial. BTW, any suggestions on "free" photo software?

Sorry about the all text post!! I really like the stuff I've been seeing on here lately, you guys are sooooo creative!

My trashy neighbor - the one who doesn't have windows but only plastic and/or plywood over the holes in his house where one might expect to find a window - has this really fabulous elephant plant stand/statue on his front porch. Imagine THIS but think about a more Hindu style version with colorful ornamentation, etc. I can't find a similar picture online. I've been coveting it for years. He had it for sale in one of his frequent yard sales a while back but was asking like, fifty dollars or something for it. Meanwhile, he uses it as a doorstop or something and it is like, sitting outside. I know it's totally un-Buddhist of me to covet this statue and think about how this man has no idea how lovely and treasured this beautiful piece of art should be. Y'all know if this statue were mine, it would be sitting upon a velvet cushion on an alter with incense and candles alight around it. But it's not mine. It's his. And material possessions such as this are unimportant to me ... *Groan!*

I've been hunting for a similar elephant-ish statue to place atop the Victorian built-in in our kitchen. Something like our neighbor's elephant is EXACTLY what we need. It would just set the kitchen off perfectly. I've looked everywhere around town. I even called [livejournal.com profile] ekchuah and asked her about a store we visited in Columbus OH that had this type of thing. Hey [livejournal.com profile] ekchuah, do they have a website for that store? I got a wild idea to quell my covetousness, I would fashion my own elephant out of foam core, paint it the kitchen's trim color gray, and use beads - which I've always got kicking around in mounds - to ornament it in a Hindu style. Using my Dremel, I cut out a design, painted it, covered some areas with glue, and poured on the beads. I thought that I could make an easy stand, and place the elephant atop the built-in. Well, here's my experimental elephant.

[livejournal.com profile] drdjmike and I concur that although this turned out cute, it is leaning a bit toward the "macaroni art project" style and will look a bit goofy in our modernist blood-red and powder gray kitchen. Hmm ... I should also post this in the [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl.

hello all crafty people :) my friend showed me this AWESOME dollar bill that was folded into an elephant! unfortunately, she wasn't the one who created the cute little critter, so she has no idea how to make another. any ideas??

Recently as a side sewing project I've been sewing tote bags. The two i'm posting, is one I gave to my friend that has a robot print and the one I made for myself to carry my school junk with me. I'm considering selling them on ebay, but I'm not sure what would be a reasonable price to ask for once I get that up and running.

I just joined a few days ago and I seem to be on a craft frenzy at the moment- I've made loads of things over the past few days. I took some pics this morning but my camera sucks and only one of them was really clear enough to post- (will try again tomorrow with some of my other projects).

I crocheted this hat tonight. It was much fun. The colors are a bit off in the pictures though. It's actually purple and hot pink.
