At the store I work at I saw a men's striped button down shirt that kind of had a negative image flower picture on it. I should have taken a picture because it's easier to understand if you can see it, but basically, I think the look could be recreated by bleaching a pattern into the shirt. I don't have much experience with bleach, except when I've splashed it onto myclothes and made unintentional spots. I was thinking I would just paint a flower onto the shirt with bleach so it would take away, or at least lighten the color of the stripes. Do I use straight up bleach, or do I have to dilute it? Will it spread through the shirt, or will the bleach effect only happen right where the brush stroke is? Do I have to put it in the sun for it to lighten, or will it just work on it's own? Can anyone with experience point me in the right direction?

Some of you may remember my original post, many months back, when I put out a call for brave souls to join me in the sewing of the Galliano Pirate Jacket (60+ pattern pieces and no instructions). Well, [livejournal.com profile] individualfrog and another girl (cathou) came aboard, and after months of hard work...

UPDATE: Uh-oh, as you can see, Photobucket has cut me off from so many people checking out the jacket! Crazy...
So I set up a temporary gallery at: http://tigralon.tripod.com/galliano_jacket/

hi again!

this summer i'm going to be working as a camp counselor and i wanted a creative way to keep track of my addresses. right now i work in my school's accounting office and they had a bunch of these index card boxes that they were getting rid of.

well far be it from me to pass up free stuff, so i took one.

i also have been saving all the stamps off the envelopes that come into the accounting office. i thought it would be fun to collect stamps, but then i just wanted to make something with them.

so i took the stamps and box and then i put them both together....right...

anyway. address box )

Does anyone know where you can find discontinued colors of Red Heart Yarn? My grandmother has a ton of single skeins, but they don't match.

And just so that this isn't text only, here is a stained glass dangly that I made recently

Cirque Du Soleil: http://www.cirquedusoleil.com is in Baltimore until June 19!

I would love to go dressed as one of the characters of Varekai, or with some outfit influenced by them. http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/CirqueDuSoleil/en/showstickets/varekai/intro/intro.htm

Any crafty ideas for accesorizing? Where do I start? I'm a plus size girl, so I'm not looking to find a leotard and run with it. But there's got to be something wild I can do.

Thoughts?

I checked out their store for ideas. This: http://ecommerce.pbb.com/CGI-BIN/LANSAWEB?WEBEVENT+L199D9E8E01580600054A012+PRD is awesome, but it's $225! O_O

So, ya.

i'm sending some earrings to a friend.

hey all!
hopefully, this is the right place to ask (if not, my apologies).

i have a question:

i have two pairs of jeans that are too short for me, and i dont have enough capris-- especially with the summer heat around.

what's an easy way to cuff jeans so they'll stay cuffed and don't roll down so easily... and they dont obviously look like a pair of jeans i just decided to roll up, but rather look like something i probably bought at the store?

i dont have any materials to give them any extra pizzazz, so cuffing them is going to be the extent of it right about now.

thank you so much in advance :-)

X-POSTED.

Hello! I found some more great tutorials on how to make stencils and then how to create screen print T-shirts. Thought I'd share the resource.

Anyone have a link with really detailed, concise instructions for changing colour in crochet? I'm doing a piece that is all single crochet, but it changes colours from beige to midnight blue to black, and then reverses...all in the same row! So far, all the methods I've tried make the last (or first) stitch "bleed" into the new colour. This particular piece requires precise lines of colour. I need help. Fast. It's a birthday present for my landlady, and her birthday is the day after tomorrow!

Hey everyone! ^_^ I'm new here!

I was wondering if anyone had ideas of what could be done with dance leotards? I have tons from when I was little, and one in particular has a really funky colorful pattern, it'd be a shame to let it go to waste.

hi! i've been silently watching all the fabulous stuff you guys make for a couple of years now, but never posted 'til now. i'm desperate for your help! i would like to make a cute but functional bag for my laptop, but i only have the vaguest idea of how it should be done. i need it to be quite padded, but still nice. water-proof would be great too! a zipper would be practical. please, give me some of your best ideas and inspire me!

So, my family drinks bottled water like crazy.
We can't take them in for change or whatev in my state, so my parents just through them away.
I personally think this is a waste.

Anyone have any ideas for plastic-bottle crafts?

I thought I'd share the marble magnets that my son and I made for his teacher as an end of the year "thanks for being such a great teacher" gift. Fortunately she has a magnetic whiteboard instead of a traditional chalkboard in the room so it will be useful as well as something to remember my son by.

I gave my son some bristol board, my cherished box of Sharpies in all colors and told him to fill up as much of the page as possible and use as many colors as he could and make small patterns.

Then I made his artwork into the magnets...

A camera case, ipod case, and my first ever screenprint!

Now, I have a screenprinting question. I used old stockings stretched across an embroidery hoop, as suggested in the memories, but the holes seemed really big. Any suggestions for an alternative? Plus, I used Mod Podge to seal off the areas that I didn't want the paint to go through, but since it's water soluble a little bit came off each time I washed the screen. I'd like to make reusable screens, so if anyone has a suggestion (preferably something cheap, as I am a cheapskate) I'd appreciate it.

I went to WalMart today to try to find mixing medium so I can use acrylics on my next screenprinted project since supposedly that works better than fabric paint, but I wasn't able to find it. Would it be with acrylic paint? or fabric paint? I wandered around the craft section for a while today but only found floating medium.

Thanks for the help :)
