i'd like to do a few more domino beads, but slightly differently than i have in the past. would it work for me to drill a hole in the top of the domino and then set an eye pin into the hole with a dab of super glue? i'm not liking the look of the beads when i have to drill all the way through...

and, i'm interested in easy ways to wire-wrap stones, to make them into pendants. any help there?

thanks in advance!!

Hobo Bags

I decided to try my hand at making a hobo bag - I was so happy with how the first one turned out I immediately cut fabric for three more - I've got two of the new ones sewn already - I just need to finish the fourth one.

Anyhow....for the first bag - I had these amazing vintage indigo kasuri pieces that I had been straining my brain trying to work out what to make with them. I never wear or use dark blues - so it was a challenge. It finally hit me that a hobo bag would be the pefect bag style to show off the fantastic fabric.

The second one I made was from indigo yukata cotton with Japanese style butterflies:

The third one I made has five different juban (under-kimono) fabrics in pinks and blues:

I've been on a bag making spree - which is probably obvious by now :]

I made these three bags using vintage kimono fabric based on the pattern I created for this one I made a few weeks ago. I'm very happy with how they all turned out!

I promise this will be the last lot of bags I post today! :P

I've never made a clutch purse before so I decided to give it a go and make some sort of mini cut handle clutch thingie.

uh oh....I think I told a fib when I said I wouldn't post anymore bags ;P At least this has a cute skirt with it!

It was my niece's 3rd birthday last Saturday and I decided to make her a gift instead of buy one.

I wanted cute, but "adult" type fabric to use for her outfit so I purchased some beautiful green suiting fabric that had tuffs of yellow, pink and blue scattered through-out. Because I only had her waist measurement, I decided to make her a skirt and a matching bag. I've never made a child's skirt before so I just winged it. It has vintage lace sewn all around the hem as well as on the bag.

The photographs are not that good and the skirt and bag look wonky as I didn't have time to take decent shots before wrapping and leaving to go to her birthday party.

My niece was having too much fun at the party and didn't open her presents until that night - my sister-in-law called Sunday morning to let me know that my niece absolutely loved her skirt and purse and refused to take them off. I consider that a success story :]

Hey, this is probably a dumb question but...

When using the cable needle in knitting does it have to be the same size as the needles you are knitting with? Or doesn't it matter?

Question - do you guys know what you can use to polish copper? I have this old copper pendant and it's sort of black in spots. I was told elbow grease would polish it up but I was wondering if you guys knew of anything else? (I don't have elbow grease, obviously lol) I have a cream sort of thing that polishes silver....do you think that would also work on copper?

I know I could just do trial and error, but I really don't want to ruin it so I was hoping you guys would know of something. Thanks!

Now and then me and my sister go to LARP-games (live action roleplaying games). Our last one was about two weeks ago, we were rays of sunlight / sunshine sisters. (^_^) The gamemaster told that the garments should be as white as possible and quite androgynous. Both of the outfits contained a robe, vest and cape. So I made matching outfits for the two of us. I sewed an extra bag too. My sister helped by decorating the items.

On to the pictures then. :)

A charming bit of unintentional hilarity:

Gay Teen Ideas for knitting and crochet

Circa 1944. Enjoy!

ETA: Since there's interest (both here and on my journal) I'll be certain to scan the patterns high-res, suitable for printing, and post when they're available.

Yarn?

Help! Okay so I am new to knitting, I have been teaching myself over the last couple of weeks with one of those "I Taught Myself Knitting" books. There is a really simple pattern in the book for a scarf that I want to make as my first real project. It says to use bulky weight yarn. I went to Michaels today after work and the only bulky weight yarn I could find were horrid pastels. They only had about 4 or 5 colors from what I could find. Am I just missing it? Where do you buy your bulky weight yarn? What kind of yarn do you recommend?

And because I hate text only posts, here are some things I've made )

I want to make a hobo bag for myself, and I've been checking out patterns - I was just wondering if any of you have a personal favourite pattern that you use or anything like that. Just something really easy and quick for beginners, since I'm not quite as handy as some of you people on here are!

Some assorted projects, and a question.

MJ + The Academy Is )

And now the question. I have yet to get around to mixing my screenprinting emulsion, but I'd planned to do that this week. However, I looked in my little kit and it appears that the bottle of sensitizer has leaked and is now empty (I can't help but think that it's from when the box was on the floor on my 21st birthday while my roommates and I were stumbling around mildly incapacitated...) Is there a place where I can buy just the sensitizer, without re-buying the whole $25 kit?
