So I have been in a bit of a scarf making mood lately.
I have a bad habit of buying one or two skeins of yarn and really, what is that good for most of the time?
So I decided, in order to clear out some room, I would make scarfs out of it all.
I didn't do anything fancy to them, but I kinda like them.

Some you may have seen already, so I apologize.

After a year of not crocheting, I decided to try making something other than a scarf for my new roommate [livejournal.com profile] kittybeanhere she is! )

Okay, so when I went to visit my family this weekend, my gram said "I was cleaning and found this yarn, do you want it?" It's a skein of brown and a skein of this 70's-esque light brown. Not colors I usually go for, but like I'm gonna ever refuse yarn. :)

Well, it's been sitting around a LONG time.
It's a little dusty and musty and could stand some cleaning before I try to use it.

The label says its "100% Virgin Wool" so how would I go about washing all the dusties and such out of it? She said it was in a cedar chest, so I'm not so concerned about bugs, but it could stand a rinse or something. But it's wool. Can you wash wool?

(If all else fails, I could just kind of put them in a frame and make some sort of shadowbox thing, because the labels are actually in really good condition for as old as I think they are).

I thought I'd run it by yall and see what kind of ideas you had. Help!
[identity profile] wannaseestars.livejournal.com
Where can I find it, and how much does it run, $ wise? Also, does it have to be watered down with anything, or can I use it straight out of the tube onto a t-shirt?

My art teacher gave me all kinds of supplies for silk/screen printing, but I'm just now digging it out and getting curious. She gave me a few tubes of the speedball ink, then there are these other inks that are in litle tubs that are really liquidy/watered down. She also gave me a big can od paint thinner, and I can't remember what she said I would use it for..but I'm assuming you might have to mix it with the tube ink? If so, whats the ratio?

I don’t know how many people out there sew Kids clothes, but I’m trying to do a pattern for a child. The only thing stopping me is the seam allowances. I don’t think that it’s like the adult patterns 1/2” all around except for the neck that’s 1/4”. Are the kids seam allowances less or the same? I’m thinking it's 1/4” all around and 1/8” at the neck.
Please Help!
Thank you.

I've been a part of this community for a while now, and I still haven't posted ANYTHING I've made. And this bothers me to the limits.

My mother-in-law has taken my sewing machine away (since she bought it for me to use), which just irks my tater. I don't know why she's done that.

but i promise I will post pictures of my crafts soon. Like... later today.

<3 to you all.

I just needed somewhere to say that my machine, my lovely machine is gone.

I made a bunch of stuff for a craft fair. One of my friends' sister makes candles and sells stuff at craft fairs, so she said she'd let me put my things out in the corner of her booth. I haven't talked to her since then, so I don't know how well things sold. I do this mostly for fun and like to try out lots of different things, so I've been curious which sort of pieces I make would sell. I really wish my husband had 3 sisters instead of 3 brothers. I don't have enough people to give all this stuff to as Christmas gifts if it doesn't sell.

I'm trying to sew a halloween costume for my daughter. I bought a sewing machine over two years ago--and gave up on trying to sew.. for the exact same reason I'm having an issue now. I can NOT understand the patterns. This time, I even bought "Sewing for Dummies"... but they leave too many things unexplained.

Mainly, I have no idea what these little triangles on the pattern mean--do I cut the notch into the fabric where they are? or maybe 'out' into the fabric? What's the reason for these little notches' existance?

HELP!Additionally.. there's kind a large piece of pattern paper (what do we call this, anyway?) that had a dotted line going down the center of it. Should I know what this lines indicates?

Robot outfit I made a while back.

And the real reason for my post...

Does anyone know the approximate size of the average 7 year-old's head?

Thanks!

I made my first necklace! Please tell me what you think!

+ 2 more pictures )

This necklace is 17 inches long, with the owl and glass bead dangling approximately three to four inches. Silver plated chain and spring clasp, with sterling silver headpins and eyepins.

Candy Corn 002

Okay, so I'm trying to cut out my pattern.. and actually I've cut it all out--4 pieces of each one--as instructed "cut 4".

No problem. But, I was confused about the dotted line, because I just pinned the piece (as shown) onto the felt I'm using, and cut it. But, now my mother in law is telling me that there should be a fold. Does this mean I should fold the pattern and the fabric in order to save myself cutting?

All of my advice is coming over the phone with me trying to explain what I'm seeing (anti-internet freak!). So, I have no idea if she even knows what I'm saying.

UGH!

I don't know if this hobby is for me! I don't find this relaxing at ALL!

So, my aunty's boyfriends mum moved over here [New Zealand]a while ago, and she went to some group for people new to the country or something. anyway, she met this well-off American couple, and the wife is a quilter. And now theyre going back to America, and she has to sell here machine, a fairly new computerised Janome that she paid about $2000 for about a year ago.
And she wants $600 for it, so she can get rid of it quickly.
And my parents want to get me a new machine for christmas, seeing as I have at the moment a fourth-hand teeny tiny Elna Lotus from the early 80's at the moment, and have been having a few problems with it.
I *was* thinking of getting an industrial machine, but this seems like too good an offer to miss - does anyone know anything about the reliablility of Janome machines, if the have a good/bad reputation, etc...

Three of my friend are modeling my clothes in a fashion show on Friday! It's been fun to make these outfits, but I haven't had time for anything else, so it's kind of nice that they are all done now.

yay for foam core picture frames )

:-) I made these when I was away at school and being an architecture student - foam core was a necessity to life. And scraps were my favorites!!! I cut out the wholes for the pictures, painted the outside using acrylics and taped on the pictures to the inside of the front pieces... attached the back (all with glue - it's not reusable and i honestly wouldnt want to reuse it, it's just foam core! - then for finishing touches... i just popped in some of my scrapbooking brad letters - "my boy" - and umm.. the pictures are of my boyfriend <3

So, I'm thinking about being an iPod Mini for Halloween.

And, I saw an amazing costume someone made last year located here.

My problem is this: I am a waitress, and I plan on dressing up in my costume for work. Is there a way to simplify this costume, still making it look incredibly realistic, yet easier to work/move in?

Thanks for any ideas!

This isn't a sale post.

I have tons of fabric that I never use and need to get rid of/sell.

Could someone point me in the right direction of where I can go to sell it ?

Thanks!

first off-- sorry for the text-only.

i want to do temporary hair extensions with yarn for a halloween party (i'm going as the corpse bride), ie: i need to remove them for work after the weekend is over.

1. does anyone have a tutorial for putting yarn in, or is it pretty easy, like just knot + weave?
i dont plan on doing my WHOLE head, just enough to get the point across...
2. is there any way i can do it that will stay in for the night, but be easy to remove, without cutting my hair?
background info: i have shoulder length hair.

AND/OR
3. how to make my own HAIR FALLS that would go on pig-tails.

any links or advice would be MUCH appreciated! + i'll definately be posting pictures of my costume, which will be partially hand made :)

thanks!!!

has anyone seen hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy? you know the part where everyone turns into these knitty-looking yarn dolls? i want to make some, perhaps something like these? i want the knit to be very finely woven - is there a certain type of clothing i can buy and destroy that will achieve this type of effect? like socks....or long johns.....fabric? any ideas?

edit: i'm trying to make knitty-yarn equivalents of earl and mooch from mutts comics for my boyfriend's birthday.

so not text only:

Ok, since I'm really short (like 4' 11 1/2") all pants are hugely long on me. Now I know the solution to that is hemming my pants, BUT what about the wonderful crotch area. I like to wear my pants low and I'm REALLY addicted to Modrobes (and the similar). I have a few pairs and my problem is the crotch sits at my mid thigh and it's getting annoying to look like I have this hugely long crotch area. Does anyone know how I would go about making the waist area smaller? Does that even make sense? I was thinking about pulling apart a pair I wasn't too concerned about and testing out the shortening of the mid-section, but I figured that asked the talented folks here would be the answer! I hope someone can help out!

Sorry this is text only. I havn't been too crafty lately since I've just gone back to school! One day I'll post some of the crafts.
