Thanks to everyone who gave me screenprinting advice yesterday. I took a conglomerate of most of the advice. I made separate screens for the text and the record, and intended to buy better acrylic paint, but then I realized that just because my family doesn't make a big deal of Thanksgiving doesn't mean the stores aren't closed. So I made do with what I had for the record part, and it was fine. Right now I only have 1/3 of them done, and only the record (not any text yet)

I have a looooong way to go, but all your advice helped. Thanks :)

Has anyone tried to make any of the dolls at this site, Doll Making by Runo?. I will be making this doll for my niece for Christmas.

I've only made dolls from the pre-printed panels that you can get at fabric stores. I've made some complicated ones so I figured I could do this.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

(i had posted this yesterday but i deleted it accidentally. my apologies to those of you who had commented on the original post.)

allow me to introduce you all to the czarina.
she is my first doll and is one of a kind.

she's 3" tall and made of lots of good things.
that's a crystal brooch she's wearing and her
skirt and cape are accented with beads and sequins
repectively. her head piece is hand knit, and her
discreet bun is not to be missed!

see more of her? really, you must! )

okay I have been a lurker in here for a while. And i was going through my shirts today and I found this fall out boy shirt that i acidentally got the wrong size of when i went to nintendo fusion last month, and i wanted to make it into a tote bag. now i looked through memories and i found some stuff and it's great, but i would like some tips for when i make it because i have never made anything besides little baby blankets for my brother. also what is the best fabric/way to put lining in it, and how would i do that?

I work nights with Hospice clients, LONG shifts, lot's of down time, I would like to buy a smaller sewing machine that sews using regular stitches, but one that is easier to carry than a full sized one. Does anyone here own a machine like that? Something easy to carry that can do a straight and zig-zag stitch that compares sewing quality-wise with a full sized machine? I do not want a toy... I also do not want to lug around a full sized machine. Any input on a machine that might give me quality stitching plus some increased portability via a smaller machine would be greatly appreciated.

I just made a big batch of soaps with my Eiffel Tower, round/oval and sushi molds. I've even turned some of the soaps into ornaments for a cute, Christmas-y touch! For all of the soaps, I used a lime oil soap base and added iridescent sparkles and a little strawberry oil for a lime-strawberry scent. I wish you could smell these soaps. They smell wonderful!

Unfortunately while I was pouring the soap in, some spilled over the mold (because I'm always in a rush to get things done), but it's an easy clean up.

Someone posted a link to a website with a bunch of kniffty knitter projects, and I was wondering if anyone could give me the link to it again?

Thanks so much.

(p.s: all of you go see Rent. right now. It's amazing.)

question:

My friend is doing some resin casting and she asks me if I want to make some plugs but I'm not so sure that the resin is safe for body jewelry.

Does anyone know about this? What if I wrapped some tape around them? I've seen stone cast in plugs but it's always in a pair of tunnels (the wood tunnels with pebbles in them)

If it's not safe I'll probably end up casting in some tunnels with stones or something in them.

So I'm all about using fabric I already have, and reworking thrift store clothes. I'm kinda curious to see if there is any place online that sells fabric that was... how do I put this? Ethically made? I'm kinda curious about this....

http://ethicalfashionshow.com/langues.htm#

...and it left me thinking about where I could find those kinds of materials to work with. I already have oodles of fabric to play with, but if I wanted something I dont already have, or couldnt find something at a thrift store to rework and needed something more specific I'd atleast like having a happy concious buying it.

thanks grrls!

I've been making soap all day for Christmas presents. I'm gonna do a few more for my brother tomorrow and finish another project for my dad and I'll be done with Christmas presents pretty much. It was my first time with soap and it was fun. :)

I just made this today, it didn't turn out exactly like I wanted it to and I accidentally burnt the whiskers.  I used Sculpey clay and personally I don't like it, but Michael's had it on sale so I thought why not. I made this for my sister for christmas. She has 2 cats so I'm planning on making the other one tomorrow.

I've been in need of a cutting tool.. I can't cut a straight line for the life of me, be in paper or fabric ... and I seem to do a lot of it lately for a variety of reasons...

I don't quilt but I saw THIS recently...

Has anyone used it? Does it hold up okay??

TIA

**I just put up the Joanns site as an example. Not sure where or even if I'm getting it yet. The size (18" X 24") is okay for what I'm doing...

Hello, I know this is text-only, but I figure it might be of use to others who have craft sites.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any great places to help with layout and design? Not to do it for me, just for ideas and tips for a business? I have a whole bunch of jumbled visions for my site and I need to just learn to focus on one!

Give me a link to your site if you've gotten help, as well as a link to whoever helped. Or just give me a link anyway cause I'm bored and I'd love to look at new sites! haha

Thanks so much in advance!

Hi!
I just wondered if any of you could explain how to change color on the knifty knitter? I saw a lot of instructions for strippy scarves but all they say is "change the yarn"... Do you knot the ends of the yarns together?
Thank you

I made up my mind to teach myself to crochet over Thanksgiving break...As you can see, to limited success. Why is my crochet piece grinning at me??

I figure it's like knitting and I've got the tension going wonky, but I was wondering if there was a crochet-specific reason for this maybe:-/

I want to paint the brass handle of a purse so that it looks like silver. Is there a good durable paint that will a) stick to brass and b) not rub off under daily wear?
