For some bizarre reason I can't stop making cat toys in the shape of food. The idea found its way into my head and it just stuck.

Here's the weekend menu! )

I posted information about this a couple months ago, so I hope it's still OK.

We finalized the date of the arts and crafts show - it will be on April 29, 2006.

There is booth space available (about 15 slots left), and the price is as follows:

Option 1: $50 booth fee (to go to a mission from our list of your choice) plus a donation of a piece of art (worth at least $25).

Option 2: $75 booth fee.

(approx booth space: 6’x7’)

All of the proceeds from the booth reservations and silent auction will go to various missions, both local and nationwide (and since the booth fees will be going to charity, it's tax deductible!):

Society of Saint Andrew (nationwide hunger ministry)
Petersburg Urban Ministries (Petersburg, Virginia)
FACETS (Fairfax Area Christian Emergency and Transitional Services)
Western Fairfax Christian Ministries
Mattaponi Healing Eagle Clinic (East of Richmond, Virginia)

It's for a worthy cause, and it's a good way for artists and crafters to get exposure. It will be held at the Community of Faith United Methodist Church in Herndon, VA. I don't want to clog up the space here, so please contact me at melissa@eeltank.com for more information. We're expecting a pretty good turnout! :)

i'm 35 weeks pregnant and last night i was itching to craft something. anything. for my birthday this year my mom wrapped my stuff in the cutest paper and i saved it, knowing that one day i would craft with it and this is what happened:

i 'made' this for the baby room. it's amazing what an old lampshade and old wrapping paper can do

This is the first stencil I have ever made. I probably would have never tried stenciling a t-shirt if I hadn't found this community! LOL! I used freezer paper. I was amazed at how relatively easy it was! I want to make a ton more! But I made this shirt for my friend's daughter. My friend just had her second baby on Thursday. Her first daughter needed a Big Sister shirt, so I made her one. I was pleased with my first efforts!

I did two new pendants for St Partick's Day. Painting these reminded me of my old room growing up, I painted it a really pretty bright green color which I totally loved.

I guess I just have this thing about short dangly earrings that get lost against my hair when I wear them...

So here's a little lime green disc shaped pair:

Ok girls, I know that this has come up a few times here, but I'm making myself cloth pads. For the people who might be about to ask why, which seems to happen whenever they're mentioned, it's healthier for me and for the environment. Think cloth diapers. Kind of the same deal. There's lots of information available on the internet, and even a diy_pads community on LJ if you want to learn more.

So anyway, I found a tutorial that I like, and I've got the flannel and the Warm & Natural cotton batting for the lining. I've got buttons and hook & loop tape for the wing closures. But what I don't have is a good water resistant fabric for the bottom layer. And I know that a lot of people have said that although it was an option, they found it unnecessary, but I'd like to have it anyway, just as a reassurance. But, I'm more of a knitter than a sewer and have only come to sewing pretty recently. I only know fabrics by what they feel like in the store and I can recognize flannel or canvas or any of the basics. But I don't know enough about what's available, or the names for things, to know what kind of fabric I should be looking for for this water resistant layer. I was thinking that it'd be similar to what an umbrella is made of, or maybe some track pants, but I don't know what that stuff is called.

I'm trying to use things that are natural and good for me like unbleached cotton and stuff, so anything water resistant that's also not bleached/dyed/treated in some way is what I'd like to find, but I'd be happy with any recommendation you might have?

i was wondering if anyone knows how to get the gross formaldehyde-ish smell out of acetate/polyester
my prom dress is made of that and it smells like a dark room/biology class

i've been doing lots of crafty things lately, so i should have photos up sometime this week

Made a wallet last night! :D I love it muchly! Next project... making a matching purse! I LOVE this fabric SO much... but sadly its only available to me in fat quarters... and only a few of them are left! T_T If anyone knows where I can get this by the yard... OMG I would love you... this fabric is begging to be a pair of PJ pants! X3

Its all lined and serged~ it has a space for a checkbook (on the left), a change pouch (center), and a pocket for cash and four card slots (right). Its all held shut with two snaps. It has a line of sequins and stuff down the center. :D Oh the love I feel for this wallet... :D

More pics back here! )

Please visit my LJ and friend meeee! I need more crafty friends on my friends list! :D
