Gypsy girl

This is a gouache painting I've done recently while my college teachers have all been on strike. I haven't done any painting in a while and wanted to do something to get back into it. This was inspired by all the great stuff that is posted over on The Cartoon Modern Blog. More specifically the awesome stuff from last weeks Mary Blair themed posts.

So...I'm sewing some felt onto a shirt, because I'm lazy and didn't want to make a little hem around all the letters I was going to be sewing, so instead of fabrics, I went with felt. This may be a dumb question, but will it fray? Or do something silly when I wash the shirt? Help me out, and I'll post some pretty pictures. :)

Before I have a breakdown.

For my British Literature class we have to dress up like a character from the Canterbury Tales. I chose to dress like the Cook. Ok on to my question, how would you go about making cheesecloth look as though it is bloody from the ulcer he has on his knee. I was thinking acrylic paint? I'm not really sure so I would love some input before I go on and mess it up.

Thanks!

a couple of questions..

wool/felting related
1. does lion brand wool-ease yarn felt? it is 20% wool, 80% acrylic.

2. by how much does a knitted/crocheted item shrink when felted?

sewing machine related
1. when i bought my sewing machine used, it didn't come with a cover. would it be ok to just throw a pretty fabric over it, or should i sew one up to fit around it snugly?

2. does it need to be cleaned every now and then, because of dust, etc.? what is the best way to clean it?

so, my dad wants a canopy. he has a queen size bed, but the pattern he likes (simplicity 4532)
()
only has directions for full and twin size beds. how should i make it bigger? maybe measure the difference between full and queen, then accomodate with extra material for the difference? (i have a full so i can easily get the measurements)

So my boyfriend is making me adhere to a budget. Of course, being the addictive craftster that I am- I had to make a budget book.

Do any of you guys have bookbinding tips that will make my books look more finished?

This is a really great community a friend of mine started and I would love to see it grow and become more active! It is for crafty moms and kids, but you could definitely join even if you don't have kids :) There are more banners on the info page that you can feel free to use if you'd like to spread the word :D

my spring break just ended and so:

i have things to share )

also, if anyone has advice for how to avoid the marks that show from tracing my patterns onto the felt, i'd really appreciate it. i've tried pinning the pattern to the pin, but that's especially difficult and unsuccessful with such small shapes. thanks guys.

Hello, I am writing a research paper for my English 101 class. My topic is why people still do crafts, when almost everything you would want can be bought in a store.
