I found some plain white keds-like shoes at the thrift store so I broke out the fabric paint.
also, I photoshopped!

On to the shoes! )
I didn't seal them or anything. I hope that they'll be okay.. If they wear off of the rubber part i think that they'll still stay on the fabric part. anyway.
I'm proud!

Someone stole this from the badbuttons.com booth at Brooklyn's Renegade Craft Fair on Saturday, June 17th.

This is the Bikini Kill notebook I made from one of my own records. I was was going to keep it for personal use if it didn't sell at this event.

The covers are the front and back of the record sleeve for Bikini Kill's self-titled 12". The endpapers are the actual lyric sheet and white paper record envelope, then sheets of cherry red canson paper and a kraft brown text block. It also has a small manilla envelope and one of my business cards bound into it.

If you see someone with this, IT IS STOLEN. I would like for it to be returned to me.
I can be contacted through badbuttons.com.

Please re-post this. Don't let trash get away with stealing from indie artists!

Ok so I have a friend who has asked me to make wedding invites and I am super excited but I was wondering if anyone know of any crafty wedding communities with a good archive of ideas and such. We will be making about 130 invites. I make greeting cards of a sort with material and my sewing machine and they really liked the idea but I just want to make sure it looks as professional as possible since the guest may be work acquaintances of the couple (both have worked quite high up in government so there may even be a deputy minister there yikes!) I was thinking of having them printed and then adding on the sewing and such. It will be difficult as well because I will be over seas in South Korea while doing all this for a wedding back in Canada. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I really like original ideas for the shape and closure and all that. I think I saw on here a really strange card where the card was the envelope and it was kinda shaped wierd like a square with a rectangle jutting out the side? Does anyone remember that one?

I've accomplished a lot this weekend, considering I hosted a dinner party for 5 on Saturday night and had 2 friends over for the weekend...

Creations in Sculpey, Yarn, and Beads )
Oh and a quick question... The bracelet is made on Impex brand clear elasticy stuff...(The link to where I bought it won't load) I had major trauma tying the end as the knot kept slipping undone and so I tried melting it but it kinda shrunk and slipped through the end bead... so I resorted to superglue... Is there a better way?

hello everyone, got questions again...

q1: i've been thinking about this, when you feel your stuffies or eye-pillows and what-nots with beans or rice or flax, will they rot or invite weevils or stuff like that? maybe not in the first few weeks or months, but what about some time later?

q2: if i want to make paperweights, what should i use to fill to make it heavy? must i buy weights and where can i find them?

thanks, yet again...

This is a question for anyone who has used zippers in their crafts....

I am looking into buying some zippers to make cosmetic/coin purses and I was wondering if there's a difference in the types of zippers that are out there? I keep finding YKK zippers. Are these any good? Also what type of zipper should I be using? I have found skirt, invisible, metal, etc. types. Any information you could give me would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

I recently 'inherited' a Necchi 537L sewing machine from my grandparents as they were cleaning out their old store. They didn't, however, find the manual. Looking online, their website offers a manual for sale BUT it has a 'security breach' warning when I try to buy it (someone about certificates not matching?) which makes me wary of buying from them. Other places are charging $10-15 more (!!!) if they even have it and then it says it'll take 6-8 weeks until I get it! (plus, sewvacdirect.com doesn't seem very reputable to me anyway).

I'm highly impatient, so that's not really helpful for me. Plus, I want to use it to hem pants because all of my pants are a good 3 inches too long for me.

SO, are all sewing machines basically the same? Would I be able to use "threading the bobbin" instructions from the memories on this machine or is it absolutely vital that I get that manual and use their instructions?

(As you can tell, this is my first sewing machine and I haven't used one since I was 10).

Ladies, I'm painting a crib and I need to know two things:

-what kinds of paints should I use to be child safe
-how to I acheive an antiqued white wash look on something like a crib that has alot of grooves in it?

Any suggestions?

I've seen people post cute felt appliqued clothing items on here before. I was thinking about doing some, but then I started wondering what you do about washing them. Can you wash felt in the washing machine normally? Should you hand wash it? I thought about using another type of cloth, but I like the idea of using felt because you can leave the edges exposed without worrying about having the edge of the cloth fraying.

Anyway, for those of you out there that like to do appliques on clothing, purses, etc., how do you care for them without messing them up?

Does anyone have any cute patterns for a vibrator sock/case? My vibrator, Juanita, needs a comfy home. She's too cold sitting in the drawer by herself.

*no knit or crochet patterns, it would be a sewn piece*

I was wondering if anyone has links/ tutorials that show how to close the end of a necklace by not using a storebought clasp.

Maybe there is a tutorial that shows how to make a clasp using wire.
or maybe you can tie a special knot or something...kinda like hemp necklaces?

does anyone have any ideas?

yup, i know it's early. but i have a good idea for sellable christmas cards. the idea is, an image of a christmas tree on the card, with earrings (actual earrings) hanging off the tree like ornaments. this is a way to sell earrings at christmas craft fairs i hope!

anyway, what i have is: lots of scrap paper, paint, and cardstock paper.

what i need is some ideas of how to make these cards look really cool, unique, crafty... keeping in mind that their primary purpose is going to be to display a pair of earrings. what a great xmas present to give someone eh? a card with earrings.. we are going to sell them with bubble envelopes so craft fair goers can purchase them and they're right ready to stick in the mail!

so come on craftgrrls, give me your best thoughts, links about cardmaking, anything to help me make these really great! oh, and i have looked at the memories already, i may have missed something, but i didn't see a whole lot on card making. thanks in advance!

Hi there I'm looking for chalkboard paint, to be specific the green brush on kind. I've been to several stores and have found several brands of the spray on and/or black stuff. I know I've seen projects using green. Has anyone used it? Do you remember the brand and where you got it? Thanks!

I finished my first sweater recently. It all went well except for some wonky seams where the sleeve joins the body. Any suggestions or tips would be a great help if I ever try a sweater again.

In all it's glory... )

I also made these today.

Do any of you crafties out there have any ideas of what I can do/make out of an old deck of tarot cards? I don't really use them anymore but the art is gorgeous and I don't know what to do with them. The deck examples are HERE. Any ideas would be appreciated! :)

Just an update of my projects from the last couple of weeks:

All of these bags (except the hobo bag) are made from scraps that I had lying around. That's why they're all odd shapes.

I also have a question for anyone who uses a sewing machine... do you have a special, super-comfy chair to sit in while sewing? I find after an hour my neck/upper back/shoulders hurt so bad. I don't want to end up all hunched over in a few years from constant sewing.
