Toggle Clasps
Jul. 3rd, 2006 10:44 amAt the risk of sounding like total moron.......
Last night I finished a necklace I've been working on for a while. I used a toggle clasp exactly like this one:

The thing is, I can't close the toggle. The T-bar won't go through the hoop, no matter what angle I try. Am I missing something here? I've never used toggles before.
Someone please help! I want to wear my necklace!
Thanks, all you brilliantly crafty ladies. ;)

Dragon messenger bag
Jul. 3rd, 2006 03:19 pmMy husband doesn't believe it's possible for me to make a manly tote bag. I've been trying to prove him wrong with little success. I thought I'd try a messenger bag to see if that did the trick and while he thinks it's better, it's still not quite there.

This is made with black canvas, black lining and a nylon strap.

Black clutch purse with red flowers
Jul. 3rd, 2006 03:32 pmI'm pretty happy with how this turned out in spite of the slippery fabric. This is just about the right size for my wallet, etc.

Flamingo Tote Bag
Jul. 3rd, 2006 03:46 pmI have no pink thread so I tried to make the blue look intentional by using a decorative stitch on the handles.

The flamingo fabric is a remnant I found that feels like linen with the birds sewn on. The inside is pink twill.

Help for the hopeless?
Jul. 3rd, 2006 06:41 pmI have two art projects scheduled for tonight.
One involves glueing leaves and flowers to a piece of paper. (I'd be putting it behind a polaroid and framing it.) How should I go about this to best preserve the leaves and flowers?
The other involves simply painting a heart on a rock. Do I need to treat the rock before or after doing so?
Thanks in advance!

dancing skeletons!
Jul. 3rd, 2006 07:24 pmi was going through my clothes and getting rid of (taking to goodwill) the clothes i dont wear anymore. i also make a pile of stuff that i can re-vamp so to speak and i came across this skirt i made last halloween (i'm obsessed, haha) that i dont wear anymore. it's really cute fabric and i was fooling around and put it on as a shirt. lo and behold it looked REALLY cute. so i sewed the top into a sweetheart neckline and threw on some lace tie straps. i think i'm gonna wear it to PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN on friday. seems fitting!

(that thread is gone now, i was evidently a little hasty in taking the pictures)

I have the cutest little girl ever. She is 4 1/2 and her name is Aurora and she has broken her leg, and is getting a cast on Wed. I was wondering if you ladies had some good ideas on how to decorate it besides markers... She is really into hello kitty and nightmare before christmas/corpse bride. So this isn't text only this is her a couple weeks ago before the break.

Knitted Bracelets
Jul. 3rd, 2006 08:48 pmI've just finished school holidays here and on the holidays I learnt to knit with wire and beads when I went away to a friends house. I'm pretty impressed with myself but some comments would be nice

Jul. 3rd, 2006 09:56 pmI know that everyone hates text-only posts, but I have a quick question.
I have a lot of scrap fabric just laying around and am thinking of making a quilt. I read some stuff online, but am still confused on one thing:
What do I use as a back?
THANKS!
Love

Jul. 3rd, 2006 10:38 pmI made this baby quilt for a friend who's having a boy in the fall:

It's my first log cabin, and I'm happy with the way it turned out... it was very simple to put together. I'd like to try a more intricate one in the future. The quilt is 44 x 44", and it's backed with the solid yellow, with a random strip of the polka dotted yellow dividing it. I love the fabrics together... I wasn't so sure about my choices halfway through, but I'm pleased with the results!

Sculpy Help Please!
Jul. 3rd, 2006 10:56 pmI just bought two big blocks of white Sculpey III, since I had seen a lot of cool sculpey stuff here lately and I wanted to try it out myself. I also have some colors of Fimo that I bought to try to do some canes and stuff. I've been playing with the Fimo and I think I'm doing okay with that. But I just opened up one of the blocks of Sculpey III and it's really really really sticky. It sticks to my hands, it sticks to the mold... I can't keep it in any kind of shape because it sticks to everything I set it on.
Is there anything I can do to get it to firm up so I can use it? It's completely unusable at this point.
