Good Morning!

I joined this community yesterday and thought that I'd take a minute to introduce myself and add some photos as an offering :)

I first learned how to knit and crochet back when I was in grade one... almost 20 years ago. As a child I didn't really keep up with my skills until I was a little older, and started to crochet in earnest about 10 years ago. Knitting wasn't so lucky and I've only just picked it back up in the past year.

Along with these two fabulous fibre crafts, I can do a little sewing and cross stitch if it's part of another craft, but I'm certainly not talented in either area. I bake and cook extensively, and will often go out of my way to make something homemade if I feel it's better than store bought (I bake all of my home's bread, I hold elaborate dinner parties with themes and menus, and hand out gift baskets in the winter that take me hours to make). I'm just finishing my Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in event management and minoring in marketing.

Well, I suppose that's me in a nutshell - now for the photos! My website at http://www3.sympatico.ca/lorysa is my miserably failed attempt at documenting all of my yarn crafts. It is NOT an online store or selling site - the photos include a caption with how much it cost me to make because I've had real life friends inquire about me making them items. I have no interest in selling my work. About a year ago my camera battery died and my backup battery only takes about 2 photos before needing to be recharged. As such it's woefully un-updated and many of my projects have gone off to their homes unphotographed. One that didn't get away was a Flying Spaghetti Monster Hat that I crocheted for a friend of mine: http://www3.sympatico.ca/lorysa/fsmhat.jpg

I apologize for the bad photo - you can't quite get the full impression of the hat, but at the end of the ties are meatballs, the top/back is more of a mess of spaghetti, and it's got a very asymetrical eye position. All in all very comical.

I'm currently working on a knit pillow, which I will endeavour to post when I get finished :)

I made this hat in LB Wool-Ease with an I-hook. It's being considered for a not-yet-launched online crochet magazine. Please excuse the manic smile on the boy's face. I may have been provoking him.

Is there any Craftgrrls (and boys!) out there who are going to/selling at the Urban Craft Uprising in Seattle?

I'm planning to make two stuffed animals for my friend in England. Inspired by a stuffed animal book I flipped through at the bookstore, I completed one of them this week. He's behind the cut, and he is AWESOME.

Desh, if by some small chance you are somehow reading this, DO NOT LOOK BEHIND THE CUT! I mean it! Keep your boy germs out! )

Gage is sporting a lovely blue plaid, while Una loves her pink, blue and yellow argyle. Mmmm, fleece. So couture! I whipped up these fashionable wardrobe piece over the past two nights so that Mr. Gage and Miss Una might have something warm to wear this winter. I drafted the doggie coat pattern myself.

More cute puppies wearing coats. )
