This is text only, sorry :\
But I have a question I need answered by Thursday. Gah.

I have a present for my birthdat which is coming up I decided to write a letter[as well as a few other things, I'll show the finished project on here once it's done.], but made a holder for it [just a printed peice of paper & corners to hold it in place]. All of it has a fall theme & very old. One of the papers I bought from Michael's Crafts looks like old browned newspaper. I want to know how I can make regular printer paper like that. The vintage feel.
My friend said tea or coffee staining works, but I have no clue how to even do that.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance. <3

i'm sculpting an ostrich for school. i used aluminum armiture wire and tinfoil for the body, brass tubing for the one leg connected to the platform with plumber's epoxy to connect it to the rest of the body. this was advice from my teacher, because he knew i would have problems with the body being heavier than the one leg connecting to the platform and it weighing it down. however, it still weighs it down AND it sways about on the platform. so i'm coming to you guys. any suggestions on what i could use on this project to not make the ostrich body sway around/stand up more? i've been told termicide and liquid nails would probably help, but i wanted to get more suggestions. thanks for your help!

oh, and sorry for the quality of the picture. i'm obviously not done either. i've only done the basic form of it, which was then baked, and i have now started on the feathers. however, the clay on the leg connecting to the platform has started breaking off, because the body is so heavy. this is such a ridiculous problem to have!

I had some extra felt lying around, just cluttering up my room, so I decided to make some simple little...erm...creatures. I call them Nedwigs!

The nedwigs aren't mean! They're cute! )

Not having access to a digital camera, I mostly lurk here, but now I have a question.

Can someone here please point me toward an online pattern/tutorial for some sort of case or roll for circular knitting needles? I want to sew one for my mother. I also need to make something to organize my own knitting needles and crochet hooks, so it would be an extra bonus if there were patterns for something that holds those, too.

I searched online, but mostly found places that want to sell me readymade ones or patterns to crochet cases (which, as much as I love to crochet, is really not what I want here). But then I had the idea that maybe someone here had links to sites full of what I'm looking for. Or some basic directions. I don't know a lot about circular knitting needles (I crochet mostly and am learning to knit), so I don't know the best way to store them (otherwise, I could probably just wing it).

Thanks.

what can i do with... an old typewriter? we've got this one out in the garage, and as a geeky writer, i love beautiful old typewriters and will NOT throw it away. it's way beyond repair and anyway, i've got two working ones as it is. right now it's sitting on the end table, but i've like to see if i can revamp it into something different and cool!

it's plastic, has a carrying case and all it's parts. i know i could take off the keys and make various jewelry out of them, but i thought i'd see if the crafties out here had any ideas for keeping it's typewriter soul but making it something NEW and USEFUL!

I'm trying to make a felt ornament in the shape of a No. 2 pencil. I'm absolutely stuck on how to go about making the lead tip. I cut a circle thinking I could shape it into a point, but that didn't work. Then I thought maybe a few triangles??? I don't know why I'm so confused. Maybe I need to be good at math, I just can't figure it out. If someone could do a cheesy diagram in MS Paint or explain it really well, I'd love you forever!

P.S. I dig the new LJ holiday look :)

Thank you!

I usually post my stuff in the sewing communities, because most of my crafting is related to sewing and garment creation.  And frankly, I'm embarrassed by a lot of what I do in non-fabric media, unless it's made from a kit.  And then, well... there's a delay between pictures and uploads, and by then, I've lost my enthusiasm. :-)  However, someone in my favourite online gardening forum showed us how she made her "fir cone roses", and posted a couple of pictures.  I thought I'd share them here, since they're gorgeous, not to mention INCREDIBLY SIMPLE, and hopefully, someone here knows what kind of fir tree they come from.  She's in California; I suspect I won't see anything like this where I live in Canada.  Warning: two big photos!

Not sure if this is a Craft per se, but I was looking for a new dresser, and then decided (at 12a, when these things occur to me) to paint my existing one instead. Originally, this was a boring honey-colored dresser with ugly shield drawer-pulls. All the stripes are paint effects, not actual wood grain.

I'm going to be moving in a month to a studio apartment (attached to a house). I will be able to paint and decorate anyway I like since my family owns the house. The major downside is the studio was originally built to be a shop so it only has flourescent lighting (the long bulbs with yucky plastic covers). I don't really want to use those since they always make some annoying humming sound. So I was going to just use lamps and try to figure out a way to cover the ugliness on the ceiling. I didn't want to just drape material over them, cuz I thought it might look too much like a dorm room. Any suggestions though? should I just paint the plastic covers to match the ceiling and hope it hides them? has anyone had to deal with these ugly things? :(

Sorry, text only post.

My friend has all these love notes that her and her boyfriend have written each other over the past few years and she would like to somehow frame them all. She's come to me for help, but I'm stuck. She doesn't want anything added in, like flowers, embellishments etc.. and she only has two small pictures she wants in. The rest is just notes that were written on scrap pieces of paper, mostly white, and a few post-its.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to make this look semi-interesting? I was thinking a shadow box and maybe mount a few to add some dimmension but after that I'm lost. Any tips or perhaps pictures/websites would be wonderful.

I've been wanting to make lip gloss for a while now, but haven't been able to find the motivation. But after reading [livejournal.com profile] harmonic_melody's post I'm ready to give it a try! Any suggestions on where to get pots for the gloss? I won't need more than maybe 6.

And to keep this from being yet another all text post by me, I've made y'all a Christmas Card! )

A few months ago I bought a bunch of Swarovski necklace/earrings sets. I didn't read and a bunch of my earrings were clip ons. Clip ons hurt my ear like hell for some reason so I couldn't wear them. I didn't want to throw them away or give them away so I decided to make pedants using mirrors and the earrings. It was a long trial and error process but they turned out awesome!

Yay or Nay?

Alright, let's brainstorm, here.

I bought a lot of gift cards to give away this year for the holidays. Does anyone have any ideas about how to wrap or present these creatively? The Altoid tin thing is cute, but done to death.

Yay. I made a purse. I'm starting to think I'm never going to finish that dress though.
