I made this for a co-worker's wife...in June, just getting around to posting it because I'm a HUGE slacker. hehe

It's made of purple felt, but all I had on me was light blue thread so it shows up in certain pictures... I used a hook and eye because I didn't want to speed up the deterioration of the poly felt by using velcro, although, it might be more useful.

And now for something completely different...

The residents of my apartment complex are constantly throwing out stuff - and most of it is still usable - A lot of bookshelves, desks, etc. It drives me a little bonkers when I see stuff next to the dumpsters that someone else could still use (I feel better when I see other people dragging them away though).

Well a couple years ago, I found a really nice piece of glass - looked like part of a table top, so I took it home and cleaned it. I finally did something with it last night (and I'm going to see if my dad will still build me a table for it (with a light underneath the glass)). It'll be a pretty piece when it's totally finished (and all mine - I'm keeping this one)!

My husband bought me watercolors and other art supplies for Christmas, so I've actually been able to paint!

I'm really really new to crocheting and have loads of trouble understanding the patterns for doing projects. The one that I have been most interested in learning is how to make crochet flowers. I looked in the memories but didn't find anything related. does anyone know of a really simple tutorial for making flowers. I'd like one that I can play with later and change the design a bit. thanks in advance.

Hi guys! I'm looking for names of any artists, exhibitions, or even events that have primarily involved scultures made of fabric/textiles.

Basically, for my degree show I'm having a make-believe forest that's made from canvas with occasional prints etc. I've love any artists that have made flowers/trees/plants out of fabric, knit, crochet or the like. Would love web links or even 'I remember this guy who did such and such with canvas/wool/cotton' cos even that would give me a starting point! :)

x-posted to several comm's and boards!

Hi all,

I'm starting a new project called 'Crafted With Love'. It's created to offer a helping hand to animals in need while at the same time, support independent crafters/businesses/designers who handcraft their items. The blog will showcase and sell jewelry donated by generous souls (their contacts can be found in the links page). The proceeds will then be donated to participating animal shelter groups.

Currently, I'm looking for more crafters who are interested to lend a helping hand to these animals. If you're interested or you know somebody who may be, please feel free to email any enquiry to
crafted.with.love@gmail.com. =)

Note to Mod: Thank you very much!

I am very short on yarn -- a diagnosis of severe allergies has left me with no stock, I'm slowly buying a little here and there -- and haven't been able to knit in a long time, because my hands are bad. However, I found a ball of Patton's Classic Wool (Merino) in evergreen that I could use, and Calorimetry from Knitty. So, I made a not-a-hat for my daughter, who is always worried about her long hair. On 4.5mm needles, the piece ended up (as I thought it would) too large. This suited my plans perfectly, and I sewed on the buttons, sewed in the loose ends, and felted it carefully. The result is plush and bunny-soft.

Hello, all you wonderful crafty ladies (and gents if there are any)! I'm new to this community--just joined last week. I've been enjoying reading everyone's posts and seeing all of your great crafts.

My personal craft calling pulls me to different areas all the time. My current areas of craft worship include: flower pressing, photography, sewing (just got my first machine for Christmas!!), painting, jewelry making, and many other things. I'd be doing work with sculpey/polymer clay if I could just get the hang of it... I always bake it too long and it turns out black. Whoops. I also love woodwork but don't have the tools necessary to make a good piece of art.

I've decided that before I update on any of my new crafty ideas, I'll post pictures of the ones I've made in the past year or so. There's a wide variety of crafts under the cut, so there's something for anyone, really. Prepare yourself for a lot of pictures.

I'm wicked crafty )

Any and all critique is welcome. Let me know what you think of my projects. I welcome praise as well as constructive criticism.

Also, if any of you has a journal specifically for your art and crafting, I love adding new friends to my art journal. Let me know.

Ok, this is not really craft-related, but does anyone know where I could get pocket protectors?  I need like 30.  If I am able to find plain white ones, I plan to "decorate" them, but pre-decorated ones would work too!

Thanks, and sorry if this isn't a legal post!

I crocheted a bunch of presents for Christmas, and all I got were these lousy pictures

Obviously image-heavy. I'm quite fond of the accidential striping on the bath mitt myself.

OK.  I've got an idea.  It's just an idea at this point.  I have a plethora of juice concentrate lids (like Minute Maid or Old South) saved over the years for that nebulous "something for someday" purpose.  I may have found it:

I can just see my PMS-cat (see my icon) wearing this thing!

http://www.jeffdeboer.com/Galleries/CatsMice/tabid/63/Default.aspx

Check out this guy's art, for more images -- especially the plate armour for mice and the samurai rat.  Obviously, I could do nothing so fine with OJ lids.  But I COULD do something campy and kooky and truly bizarre.  My mental block is:

Besides sewing each lid onto a shirt, HOW would I put something like this together?  (I can knit chainmail myself, and have made a couple of belts with anodized aluminum with rosette-and-hook closures, but it takes forever to get any length; I have a general idea how a suit of armour is supposed to go together.)

If I wanted to mock up the embossing and maybe make the pieces look tarnished, or battle-worn, what would I use?  (Besides blunt weapons.  What would you recommend I rub into the dents and nicks to make the armour look older?)

I have use of a Dremel, some damned good ginsu shears (for cutting up Coke cans to use as plate armour), and my own pliers and wire cutters and hammers.  I also have 16-gauge and 20-gauge craft/florist's wire.  I'm not averse to using spraypaint -- but I'd prefer brushing if at all possible.  (I have asthma and chem sensitivities.)

This is a totally new medium for me -- I'm more comfortable with needles and thread and yarn and paper.  Given how vague I've been so far, what can you people suggest, as far as armour from OJ lids and cut-up Coke cans? :-)

P.S.  I'm doing this for an art meme, and I had to check to make sure the recipient isn't a member of this community.  If we run into each other in other forums, I will "not know what you're talking about" if you mention "Coke can armour". ;-)

P.P.S. Thanks for the helpful comments.  I'm off with my two clopping coconut halves, away on my quest for the holy mail. :-)
