Stenciling Tshirt Problems
Jan. 10th, 2007 04:43 amHey guys. I have a problem. I have a lot of tshirt orders (stenciling) and I guess I jumped on the bandwagon because the one I made for my boyfriend is starting to crack after its second wash. After its first wash it looked great, but now its starting to crack. I am using the 1/3 textile medium 2/3 acrylic paint mixture for my paints. And I dont to sell people shirts only for them to be ruined after a few wearings.
Is it because of multiple layers? Is it the paints? I know a lot of you have had great outcomes with doing stenciling, so I really need some help. I am willing to buy Jacquard or Speedball if I have to, but only if it means I will not have cracking. Its just I have to buy it online. And if thats the case, which is better? Jacquard or Speedball?
Could it possibly because of drying? Should it only be air dryed?
Note: I DID heat set! Also, I follwed the textile medium instructions and let the shirt set on its on for 3 days before I did the first wash.
Any tips/suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks in advanced.

Smashing Pumpkins Purse
Jan. 10th, 2007 09:56 amWhat does one do with an old pair of jeans and a cool rock t-shirt? Make them into a purse, of course! My sewing machine was being a bastard child and I was tired of ripping out a certain seam (I think I ripped it out six times?), so one of the seams is a bit crooked. Other than that, I love this purse! It measures 7x13 inches, and is lined with the back of the t-shirt.

A couple of pieces
Jan. 10th, 2007 10:09 amI've only got one more piece to make for the art show (starting on friday! Eep!), so I took on a quick commission for someone who wanted something to wear at the convention (Arisia, in case I haven't babbled about it yet). There's a picture of that and a few pictures of another art show piece under the cut.
( Image-heavy! )
Edit: ack! Accidentally posted three of the same picture. Should be fixed now.

Advice needed!
Jan. 10th, 2007 04:48 pmHi guys,
This is my first post here, although I've been enjoying looking at everyone's craftiness over the last few weeks!
I need some advice. I'm planning on making a huge cushion for my close friend's birthday, in March. She's a big fan of Katamari Damacy so it's going to have a Katamari theme.

Your dream craft supply store
Jan. 10th, 2007 05:03 pmI am working with some friends on opening a craft supply store in our city. There are a couple of Micheal's and a large JoAnn's in outer/suburban areas of the city, not near each other. In the most populated general area, where we plan to open, there is a Wal-Mart and a really great yarn store (we're probably not going to do a ton of yarn because of this, we hope to offer some of this store's inventory in ours, if possible). We hope to offer more convenience and a more unique selection than the giant stores.
I would love to pick your crafting brains about this. Please let me know your opinions on any or all of the following. Feel free to add anything else!
What would your dream craft supply store be like?
What are items that you have to order, or can never find in the above-mentioned stores?
Are there projects that require you to run to multiple locations for supplies? What are the projects and what are the supplies?
What items sold by places like Micheal's and JoAnns seem the most UNnecessary?
Do you take classes offered by craft stores, and or would you if they were nearby and involved projects that you are interested in?
What do you think about craft stores offering specialty/seasonal cooking (baking/candymaking esp.) items?
Mods: I searched the archive and I know the rules, I believe this is an o.k. post, if not, I can easily delete it. Thanks!

Construction of my Flower Press
Jan. 10th, 2007 05:12 pmDuring my LOOOOOONG post yesterday, I posted some pictures of my pressed flower work.
Someone asked me how I pressed out my flowers so well, so I figured I'd show my press off and give a brief description of how it was made...
it's pretty simple and basic and if you've got scrap wood laying around your garage (that's where I found mine) and the desire to press flowers well, this is what you need!

( books are for reading--press your flowers in one of these puppies! )
