Re-upholstering(?) furniture.
May. 8th, 2007 04:20 amHaving never lived completely alone before, i have never needed furniture. I am getting my very own, very own place next month, however, and therefore need some furniture. Being a penniless student, i will have to second-hand it. So if i find something affordable but fugly, how difficult would it be to cover it with different fabric? Would i be able to simply staple the new fabric onto the old? Or should i resign myself to abominable floral prints? Any tips, advice, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Please and thank-you!

i don't know about you guys but i go through wicked craft obsession phases. usually it's with something new & it ends up costing me a fortune in supplies, time... patience. spinning was one of those obsessions but i'm so glad i stuck with it because i totally adore spinning. i took a break to work on my journals but today i've been dyeing & preparing for breakin' my wheel out & getting busy! these are just two of my favorite skeins i've spun!
Model 635 Singer
May. 8th, 2007 04:28 pmHey! I've been staying with my Grandmother for a while, and have been using her machine for a bit of light sewing. I stitched some fabric onto some jeans using the thread and bobbin already in the machine. Partway into a new project my bobbin ran out of thread. No problem, right? After a few accidents (I suck at winding a bobbin!), I got the hang of it, and wound 3. Well, I go to start sewing, and put it in, and start sewing. It tries to sew, but about four "stitches" in, the needle gets stuck, and when you pull the fabric up, you see a tangle of the needle thread going into the machine, and the needle thread wrapped around the bobbin. The bobbin just sits there O.O
So, um, sorry for the text-only, but what do I do? Its a Singer Model 635.
I've changed the bobbin, re-threaded the machine, tried to clean it, and changed the needle. Help!
EDIT: me and my grandmother played with it for a bit, and got it fixed! I'm still not quite sure what i was doing wrong though, lol. Thanks for the replies!

May. 8th, 2007 05:29 pmSo, I am thinking about knitting socks. However, I know nothing of knitting socks. I've knitted hats and sweaters and mittens and gloves (and scarves,of course). I know HOW to knit. But socks? They're knitted on teenie tiny needles! and there's something about turning a heel?!
So, my question is, does anyone have any advice, pointers, websites of socking interest, sock horror stories, sock dreams? that might help me out? I'd love to hear some before I start my sock adventure.
Thanks!

Snap kitttt :(
May. 8th, 2007 08:43 pmI really need help.
I have a snap kit, but I don't have the instructions. I'm compleeeetely lost without them. I have all the tools and everything, I just dont have any idea how to put them together.
Could someone explain which peices go where??
Or maybeeeee, someone has a snap kit and could scan the back for me? That would help SO much.
Please please please, I'm desperate.
