So I just spent the last month or so crafting for the York University Faculty of Education Year-End Formal! I was the Social Director, so it was my partner's and my job to put it all together! I guess it's like a prom but for the (soon-to-be) teachers!
I chose Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as a theme, but to class it up a bit we called it "Midnight at the Chocolate Factory"! It turned out really great and I'm proud of it, so I thought I would share!
Edit - Yay, I've been published! http://www.craftycrafty.tv/2007/05/party_theme_the_chocolate_fact.html
Thanks,
summer crafting!

Carmen Sandiego Project
May. 28th, 2007 12:43 pmHey Everyone,
I work at a community center, that has a large summer program-about 200 children, ages 5-17. Every year the camp has a different theme. This year the theme is World Cultures.
What our site has decided to do is host one large Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego game. Campers will start out as Gumshoes, catch VILE Henchmen, and ultimately Carmen as they become ACME Agents. We're giving each camper dossiers, and evidence lockers, and even lab time to analyze hair samples and such. They'll interview witnesses to the various crimes as they recover loot that's been stolen from around the world. They will also intercept Carmen's communications to her henchman.
That's where I need some help. We're doing a version of "Flat Stanley." Only ours is "Flat Carmen." And I was hoping that I could send/e-mail a Carmen Sandiego picture, and that you guys would take it and put it against any famous, or not so famous sites/landmarks in your cities. And then mail/e-mail the photos to me for the kids to fins and intercept as clues. (If you want to mail sand/soil or anything that will be put in their evidence lockers for later analysis. Although, relaly I just need the pcitures of a falt Carmen and the landscape.) They're spending a week on each world region over the course of the summer. So if you're form another state or another country, or if you're going to be traveling, or if you have family member who wouldn't mind hosting a "Flat Carmen" for a few days and pictures, that'd be greatness.
Also, for the more creative friends on my list, if you want to write a letter as Carmen to one of her VILE Henchmen describing your city, and the great/neat things to steal...More greatness. (Carmen Sandiego always stole impossible large things (like the Eiffel Tower), so the bigger, more outlandish and unbelievable, the better...
So....does anyone want to help the kids catch Carmen?
Thanks :-)

So, I finally finished my niece's baby blanket (about two months ago). Yes, she is about to turn 3 (in August) but I was determine to finish this project. I will never double-strand this pattern again. But it turned out very pretty and I am happy with it. I can't wait to give it to her!
