Halloween!
Jun. 12th, 2007 10:32 am![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
So yesterday a craftgrrl posted a question about making a paper mache hammer ( li_lian820) to which
iamdolleyezresponded with a picture of her fabulous Pyramid Head (Red Pyramid, whichever) costume. I know its not really halloween season yet, but i loves it and am already thinking about new costumes. Anyway, I thought I'd post some pics of two of the costumes I made last halloween (made 6 in total for me and my boyfriend, for various events). I went as a bobblehead nurse from Silent Hill (the home of Red Pyramid), and my bf went as Shawn of the Dead (his name being shawn - haha - and he loving zombies). I did all the makeup, made all the blood, made the nurse hat and hood, the cast mask, and distressed the clothes. I also made transfers for the nurses costume: a distressed red cross and, if you look reaaaally close, you might see that i have "Brookhaven Hospital, Silent Hill" above the pocket. we also made surgical "weapons" out of spatulas and silver paint :P A friend also went as a nurse, but i won't post pics of her without first getting her permission (the costumes were identical however... well except for blood spatter pattern :P)
i had a ton of fun doing it, though standing outside in nearly freezing weather to have fake blood splattered and poured all over you was a bit of a chilly experience.
The plan for this year (so far) is to elaborate further on the nurse costume with freaky contacts and a few other changes, and to create a Red Pyramid costume for the bf. and recruit more nurses (the more, the creepier!). and to continue the tradition of harrassing the "sexy nurse" costumed girls. stupid sexy nurses...
On to the photos! oh, and some people have told me that the photos bother them (even though they know its fake), so consider yourselves warned.

#26 / Pink Cabled Knit Hat
Jun. 12th, 2007 10:44 am![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
Project #26 of 50 crafty projects in 2007.
I really enjoyed knitting Kirsten Dunst's Elizabethtown Pithy Hat, but purple just isn't the color for me. I might save this hat to gift around the holidays.
I'm in the process of stash-busting right now and for the first time, am really enjoying making hats. I wanted to make one for myself using my skein of Paton's Classic Merino Wool in "That's Pink", and stumbled upon this blue beret pattern. It's a modified pattern of the Pithy Hat.
Though, I also modified it by adding cables to every other repeat of "knit 8, purl 1". It's just a basic 8-stitch cable. My modifications are as follows: I followed the pattern as it is written, except using size 5 dpns instead of size 4. When I reached the k8p1 bit of the pattern, I substituted this:
Round 1-8: k8p1 *repeat for row
Round 9: k8p1, sl 4 sts onto cable needle (hold at front), k4, k4 from cable needle *repeat for row
Also, I only worked the hat to measure 7" total. When I knit the purple hat, I knit it longer and it just didn't feel right on my head. This one fits perfectly, and I loooooove it and the little pom-pom.

Name came from the poem by e.e. cummings
Officially christened into the fleet in a wash of foamy Schlitz 06-09-07
It was painted with "livestock markers"(not recommended) and iron on refective material (not recommended) (its sticking so well to the round parts of the frame - due to lack of heat from trying to iron round parts) and all the jewels were stuck on using silicone glue. The trike maintenence itself (not recommended)is intensely fidgetty and requires alot of strange hack methods... :-) oh, and driving the thing is also not recommended. (Steel is flexi, tubes are leaky, steering is highly affected by sideward slopes and "the crown in the road" constuction is a bit... how do you say... shoddy... but beggars can't be choosers)
But it sure is pretty! and sparkly!

i need a bit of help/advice on how to go about making something..
i have an inside joke with my friend involving a superhero lime..and i wanted to make her a stuffed limeman out of felt.. but i have no idea how i'd make it the shape of the lime of anything.
and adding arms and legs. it seems like a bit of a challange..
is there any sort of lime pattern i could use to sew this thing?
and how would you suggest going about this..
i hope i'm not breaking any rules with this post.
thanks =]
peace out.
so i have a few questions..
Jun. 12th, 2007 02:46 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
my other sewing machine was a cheap-o singer my dad got my mom for some holiday. it worked alright, then started getting stuck and messing up, so we took it in, and got it fixed. used it for a while, and now it's doing the same thing. turns out it'll be cheaper to just get a new machine than to get it fixed. which brings me to my next question: what machine should i get? i've checked the memories, and read reviews and stuff, but i'd really like to get personal opinions. i'm not really a newbie sewer, and i'd like to have the next machine i buy for quite some time. i'd also like to get a serger, so any recommendations on that would be appreciated as well. my mom said she heard something about a "sewer serger." i have no idea what she was talking about, but maybe one of you does?
AND LASTLY. well, two things. I have an old hardcover book that is basically destroyed, but i'd really like to do something with. both covers are in good condition, but aren't attached to the pages. hell, the pages aren't even attached to eachother. so i essentially have a lot of loose book pages, and two hard covers. any ideas? also, I decided the other night it'd be a good idea to make a purse out of a record sleeve by cuting it apart, and sewing fabric in between. it's really cute, but I don't know what to seal the sleeve with so that it doesn't get destroyed.
i'm so sorry to be so chatty, but any help you guys can help me will be so greatly appreciated. =D

New shirt -HCT FOB concert

I'm going to a Fall Out Boy concert 6/13 and over the past couple of days I've been working on this t-shirt I'm going to wear. I love the brand, Great China Wall, so they were my inspiration.

Stuffing substitutes?
Jun. 12th, 2007 09:22 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
I was thinking I could use yarn or fabric, but then I thought, "That is a waste of good crafing materials." Then I thought I could use old clothes, but I don't have any available right now. So, maybe some of you have some better ideas for alternative stuffing ideas?
I can't wait to post the finished item on here, but right now it is just a flaccid animal skin - sooooo not post-worthy.
Thank you, all!
